Steel City Freestyle
hit a few dt dod type moves on my weaker side. I suppose it's my strong side now since they were actually dt. Almost hit paradon dt flip, but it fell of the foot (twice). Gonna work it.
Good news: Swirls are finally sticking. within about 5 minutes I was able to hit swirl x 3 three times, once going up to four times.
I look like a spaz when I try consecutive dt legovers. Gonna have to do something about that.

Yo Ian, nice work with your swirls man. They've really come along. Try not to dump your foot as much though, you'll have more control of the bag. There were some that just rolled off your foot, got a little hangtime and were dexed. That's awesome, but if you do a little twitch set for the swirl, it will make your swirls in the future much more controllable and way easier.
Also, allow for like one second in between each delay. I saw some where your foot hardly made contact with the bag for like a half second, then you had to lunge your foot like crazy to compensate for the rushed set, and you'd miss the 4th swirl. "Stall for longer and really take your time to cushion and enjoy each delay", and I promise that you'll find that you'll be in much more control of the bag. Mathieu Giard Montpetit gave me that tip last year and I can't tell you how much that has helped my game. Follow this tip with, not only swirls, but the rest of your game too and you'll see some drastic changes.
Keep it up man, you're doing well.

Let's say you're clipper is flat, parallel to the ground. If you tip your clipper toe downward (DUMP), the bag will fall off the shoe. Now if you do that same motion of tipping the toe downward, while you're doing a swirl, it rolls off the clipper "ramp" (as I like to call it... Run your finger along the clipper of your G-Units, moving toward the toe... When your finger starts to raise, that's the "ramp" I'm talking about) and it gives the bag a boost to set it, so you can finish the swirl dex. It's helpful to use this for swirl sets, like Ripstein, swirling spinning, and other things, but to learn swirls well, I feel it's necessary to start with a TWITCH SET. A twitch set is like a REALLY small clipper set. A small, quick motion of your clipper going down and up so that the bag only sets to about an inch or two. This might be tough to grasp at first, but just keep doing it. Your legs will figure it out eventually.
I hope this clears swirls up a little more for you dude.

Crazy. I have about 10 different ways of doing swirl now, and they are all different than the methods you describe. I can do the method with the small clipper set but it does not give me the control I want.
My recent method is to set by raising the thigh of my support leg a fraction of an inch and then doing the dex. When I want to do a swirl set, I set by raising the heal of my support leg and following through with straightening of my support leg as the bag has already popped of and I can easily clear the dex.
I think I need to see your method in person. Soon enough!

Yeah man! I'm so excited for next year! Diggin' summer right now, but def stoked for PSU. We'll have to exchange swirl techniques as soon as classes begin. I just hope Nathan won't be too out of it from his crazy ass hike
I actually just remembered I filmed this a few days ago, and it's pretty good for explaining the difference:

The swirl I did is a slight dump. The Reverse swirl is an example of a twitch set. See what I'm talking about kinda?

Gave your advice a shot. Sort of works I think. at least the foot dropping part. Totally forgot about that. I do it when I swirl set, without thinking about it, but I am way to frigid for my reg. swirls, and now I remember why.
Did not bother to record any swirls as I can't stand watching them.
Tried some more dod's and the motion is getting there but my knee hurts from schooling em so I stopped.
Here is a vid of 4 nice strings. The fourth was surprise, and it felt really good.

long easy strings. barrage. swirl-ss bf swirl first try, swirl x 5 (can't seem to break this personal record)
I really like barrage. I want to own this trick.

sorry for the brightness. dl'ed a utility because auto filter kills most of my long strings (when I move around.) Have to figure out the best settings still.

So confused about my game. Last tine I kicked I learned barrage and hit it at least five times. Felt good. Why then have I lost all my tiltless? Fuck. I have no toe game and I look like a spaz when I try to school it. Seeing the iron monkey claw pop out during atw and dt legovers is so depressing. Anyway- that's what I should be working on I suppose. Will definitely work my core, so that's probably good.
Thank you for the props but I only deserve a % of them. Here's what I don't do and it's ridiculous:The Rhino wrote:I've watched the last several videos you've posted here in your blog. You have pretty good consistency stringing together tricks. I've FINALLY come to realize Thats a necessity in footbag, and you have pretty much got it. Props!
My stalls are generally rushed
My balance is poor from a lack of schooling toe tiltless
The links that I string well are not about time put into practice. They are about keeping my eyes open not only to how to do the trick, but more importantly: who to initiate the next trick out of it
Rather than schooling a trick per se, consider a trick a pseudo accomplishment, and consider each combo a real trick. The reason being, that a trick should have some degree of headroom when it's mastered, that can then be leveraged to execute the next thing out of it.
Often times, discovering where there needs to be headroom, helps facilitate finding it, which improves your form in general.
Just ideas I am working with right now. Schooling osis-farbutterfly-ducking clipper-repeat*X helped teach me this last month.
Several new moves today. I started drilling barrage but they were low. After trying them out of osis the dexes got deeper. I toed barrage first try on flip. Hit it seventh. I hit paradox barrage second try. I toed flip paradadox barrage first try. Hit it around tenth try. The video starts out with the dream move in slow motion so no need to sit through 10 minutes of swirls and bop as usual!
I'll celebrate with work, work, work and other work!

Such a busy few days. Been programming ever waking moment and crashing at like 8am for a deadline.
Anyway, things went well so I forced myself to play in celebration.
Hit a new link- spining clipper to barrage. Love it.
Hit barroque 3 more times, etc. Shit lighting. Oh well.
Haven't had meat or a beet since wednesday or Thursday. The meat is on purpose. The no alcohol thing just sort of happened cause I am busy and didn't think about it. But, I like it. We'll see.

Oh yeah- I hit zooming clippers on both sides. That's new.
