I hope you make a video for worlds. You may not have the experience of the seasoned video makers, but I think you've got a talent for that, seeing how all your latest videos were enjoyable beyond just the shred level.

Despite the amount that I want to play footbag, I sometimes have to come to terms with the fact that the human body simply needs breaks. After over a month of no breaks, two jams, and a lot of drilling I decided to take three days off. [gasp!].

Needless to say, yesterday and today I had Vasek legs. :P

Yesterday I kicked with Jorden, in a spot that I played a few days earlier, where my legs were tanked. Genesis was like moving boulders, and torque felt like grading that last piece of cheese with a hand cheese grader. After that I pushed a few more days, and just gave up. Taking a break feels slightly like I was defeated, my good sleep, frequent saunas, and healthy cooking just didn't cut the mustard. Either way, having Vasek legs kind of makes that feeling seem silly, but I'm sure next time I meet dead-legs, I'll make a similar quest to out-do my physical limits.

It can be tempting to stop drilling basics, and try ridiculous stuff, however I feel like that gives way to much higher highs, and much lower lows, in terms of feeling "good" or "bad" about your sessions. To try to limit those waves of feeling poor about your performance, I've been doing *real* basics for a lot of the sessions recently. For example, I got 20 toe osis' b2b today, which, I think is really cool, because I might be able to start putting them in runs. Something like a prefix ducking toesis->shut gyro would be splendid. Speaking of which, I got both shut mobius' today, with little effort, which was unexpected. Also shut gyro switch->double switch*rpt. Weird how those things work out, with no effort..

Switching to new shoes is both a blessing and a curse, but I imagine playing a lot outside before worlds, will break them in *just* right. I imagine that if I played outside with my current shoes, I'd always worry about playing on a gym-floor surface at worlds, and be annoyed at the lack of grip...So, I'll see how this works out.

Also, in other news...I'm finally playing with my own bags, and liking it. I just bought some amaretta, stitched a few, and Jorden even likes them. I no longer feel shameful for selling some at NYFA, because, if I can hit what I hit today in my basement with them, anyone should be able to learn with them. This is slightly groundbreaking, since previously I *hated* playing with my own bags, simply on principle that I made them. Woot.

In life-news, I've begun applying for jobs for *next* year, when I graduate. It is a scary experience, thinking "oh jesus, what now?". My first (and only completed) application was Nokia, in Finland, except I said I would mind working in any German speaking country, or Norway. I began applying to German places, such as BMW, but then was reading the job descriptions in German, and became intimidated. Macro assured me my German was better than half the immigrants to Germany, so I shouldn't worry :) ... It seems like a long shot, but if I apply a year in advance and hassle them the entire time, one place within any of the 5 countries I apply for better take me. I just want to engineer stuff and make people's lives better, damnit. The next time you try to use a product, and it sucks the hind tit, I want to be the guy who redesigns it so you smile like an orangutang with a brand new chainsaw.

Happy mid-summer-weekend Finland.

Nice highlights, man. Some of your words from NYFA have been buzzing through my head during all of my sessions. I understand what you were talking about when you said that furious sets feel like a toe stall for you (or something along those lines?). Just wanted to thank you for that. You really inspired me at NYFA. I've been going through a massive basics drill frenzy, thanks to you (and some other people).

Good luck applying for jobs next year... I'll be in the same boat :\ I know how you feel, it's kinda scary.

Also, "Orangutang with a brandnew chainsaw"? You've got some cool weird stuff floating about that head of your's. Totally rad.

It's funny, you and I were unofficially voted the two weirdest players at NYFA :P In a good way, of course. I appreciate your weirdness and unusual thoughts. I look at "weird" as a good thing... I think weirdness just shows a person's creativity.

Keep it up. Later man.

I will start by saying that this post will in no way attempt to fully encapsulate the first half of my Suomitrip thus far.

I began this trip, with the idea in mind ''Do I want to live in the motherland or not?"... Noting that my first two trips to Finland were in the dead of winter, when everyone was on vacation for new years, which doesn't actually represent the entirety of the country.. So, all-together 3-4 weeks in winter, and then 4 weeks now, should give me a better taste of what this country is made of.

And this country is made of pure fucking bull+bear+rhino tears. I started with a week, in Turku, visiting the Accelerator. I have a journal which I may write highlight entries onto modified with, but there is simply too much awesome to re-write with vivid blistering passion all over fizzied. We shredded for 3+ hours multiple times, 4 hours one day, went to a summer cabin, saw harry potter..Ate Kebab, made stuffed peppers, watched futurama..Stitched bags, and just lived the fucking dream for a week. I biked all over town, toured the city and its castle.. Hence, very good check points for reasons to live in Suomiland. Negative reasons found: Too many marriable women.

The next week, started doing a footbag demo for a European University Futsal Tournament, with, tons of countries and whatnot. Aleksi, Samu and I did a 007 routine, Aleski and I dropless, and ate some Kebab. Jere, the Smooth Criminal, was supposed to attend but couldn't due to distance reasons. I was looking forward to that, however. Reasons to not enjoy Tampere: Too many marriable desk clerk staff members.

Went to Helsinki in Aleksi's car there after, and settled into the Kauniainen flat with Samu, Lauri and Tuomas.. Played footbag everyday with a posse of like 6-10 members, in the shining sun.. Filmed a lot of footbag, and had one wild, wild, wild night.. Oh Cleaver.. :D .. It all ended at Party Bombe, the bombe that could party bombe's. It was a nice jam, I felt happier about footbag during it than many moments in the last 10 jams I've been too. For some reason, the intense competition, with like 20thousand active bap members, knowing I am miles away from being the best here, just makes me feel like I am a complete noob again.. Which brings me back to jumping up and down flailing my arms without giving a flying fuck. until I am already at the peak of my jump and couldn't stop anyway. As it turned out, I got third behind Anssi and European Champ Aleksi, which felt fucking great. Ranking behind those two players is like, a ridiculous honour. What testosterone raging champions. Aleksi also got like, 3 of my bags, which makes me happy because he actually seemed to enjoy using them. Likewise with Anssi, who was using my bag when I saw him. At this shred, I got torch-torch-superduper first try, where, Anssi said the superduper wasn't clean, but others said it was fine. I also got backside blurriest swirl both sides. I also did torch-torch-psw-psw I think first try for Aleksi, which felt cool.

Now, I am in Nilsiä..Which is apparently the most beautiful place in the entire world. I had no idea what a fucking gentleman Juho was, but, now I am fully aware I am in the presence of Hercules+Bill Murray all in one. I can't wait to go back to Canada and edit all my footage (which, none of you will see for months...) and write more detailed stories, but I just don't want to waste any minute here not soaking up the Finnishness. Although, now thinking of Canada makes me sad, because I have to leave this all..

Blarg. Juho shred to come.

My god. One month in Finland, is now coming rapidly to an end.

I suppose I should erupt in gratitude and amazement, as I can pronounce myself as one of two new members in BAP. Alongside Olaf "Anaconda" Piwowar,

Jay "The Creator" Boychuk.

Usually I can measure things in terms of things I already know.. For example, when I see Juho hit spinning butterfly swirl-ducking drifter-stepping butterfly swirl, it is kind of like the song "Shot through the heart" by Bon Jovi, being injected into your veins in one fast burst... Or, when I saw Jorden hit torch-r rack swirl on video the first time, it was like when you eat a new dessert you didn't know existed, and it is now your new favourite thing to eat.

But this, just, I don't know. I feel like it is the loftiest definition of, I just can't explain. I didn't honestly think it could happen. This is going to be one hell of a trip home though, many hours ahead... And then, I just have to shred harder than ever before. I won't forget the moment that Tuukka Antikainen looked me in the eyes, and said

"This is just the beginning".

Hey guys, thanks for the posts.

Figure I should give a little update here.

So, fizzied, I switched to Lavers. After seeing Anssi, Aleksi and Milan crush worlds with these shoes on, I kind of wanted to hang up the cheater shoes and see what I was made of. I noticed for the last year, I've felt like *something* was off, my clipper, namely. I figured at this time, when I should fix my back and give it rest, I'll do the basics and do them in the right shoes to fix form. I've been playing every other day for about a week, and it feels great. The first day, I did 1000 (total, not in a row) inside->clipper stalls, with zero support foot movement, both sides. I also did 500 alternating clippers, making sure that the bag wasn't rolling around my clipper, but smacking the sweet spot. I feel like my toe game is super refined, so I haven't been drilling those basics..However, last session I tried atomic everything, and hit it first try, in new shoes, so I'm not too worried.

The following days, I did many repeats of the inside->clipper drill, until I got 2 25 contacts both sides, in a row, no fumbles or rolling on the clipper region. At this point, I was suffering, my legs are fine, my back wasn't hurting, I just had to crush something. However, due to not wanting to injure myself again, I only did hard stuff on my flipside. I got flip alpine barfry->superduperfly, and that felt pretty easy. I then got into stepping, and it too, felt good. And now for the last few sessions, I've been working flip whirlwind, superduperfly, and whirling drills. A highlight for me is three superduperflies in a row on my flip, as well as whirlwind->superduperfly->spender, all on flip, which is my first beast in Lavers. I also have got the blurry whirl->whirling mirage->atomic whirl*rpt drill twice now, as well as multiple easier combos along the same lines. Last session, I also got the most whirling concepts in one string to date, including both gyro whirling sets, pdx/near mirage/illusion, and both butterflies. I then decided to try nemesis again for the first time in a while, and those are still in check, and, feel better in lavers than they ever did in Gunits. Good news. I also have done a few invention type tricks, which makes me beg the question:...

a.) Is it better to hit a bunch of inventions, not tell anyone, and feel good about it...But in no way "Further" the sport?
b.) Make a thread on modified, post all the things I have hit, and am hitting currently, keep it updated, so that if someone wants to look something up for historical record, they can? Before you suggest "Get it all on video"..Ugh, just no. Recording ruins my sessions, makes it not fun, and takes a lot of extra work and preparation.

I like both options for several reasons, but if people generally feel like option b.) is the wiser, I guess I'll start a thread or something. :?:

The statement at the end of option b.) Brings me to my next point. For the last three years, I've averaged probably 1 tournament/footbag trip a month. Right now, I have *no* trips planned for the future, and don't even know about worlds next year. I am graduating this year, and I have no idea where I'll end up. Optimally, Finland, the motherland of all things that are majestic, however I realize it will be quite hard to get a good job there. I am now also in the middle of applying for dual citizenship, between Canada and the US. Assuming Finland doesn't work, I was thinking of finding a job in the San Francisco area, so I could visit with Steve a few times a week for Footbag. With a new 'big-boy' job, who knows if I can get the time off for worlds..It would be doubtful. As I am also rebuilding my game with Lavers, and, will be trying to take it a new direction, I wont be going to any tournaments before Christmas most certainly... With that statement, my last few sessions have felt unbelievable. I just drill, and, don't feel quite so "If I can't do this, I'll murder a coconut", I feel much more like "That is really hard, I will hit it, I should think about this".. Having no emotional down points in an entire session is nice,.. It is just, a stream of good, plus high points.

I feel like in a weird way, I am betraying the community though. I've been to so many tournaments in the last few years, I don't want to just screw off in my basement and not say Hi. I swear, I'm not going to whither away, I just want to get really fucking good at footbag, and I feel like tournaments would inhibit that ability at the moment. So much pressure all the time, to make sure your high point is *right* at the peak of the one weekend.. Always worrying about injury, and everything else. I was thinking also of not taking any footage for making videos, because it also acts like a tournament for my brain. I feel like killing yourself to get that one combo raises that individual part of your game, but leaves holes all around it... If I just play for myself, I might finally see my level over-all reach a higher more consistent level. I wont ever be an Anssi, Milan or Aleksi if I just try Alpine Nemesis for a month straight.

In other news, I have a project a-brewing for December that I want you to warm your socks with. I'll be running the Christmas Calendar, and have already went far underway on the organization of it. Grab your tea cozy and sing it sweet nothings, you're going to enjoy waking up every morning...I assure you.

This post was full of good news. About your question. I feel (perhaps a bit greedily) that you should let the public now what you're hitting. Maybe not immediately, especially if there is a competition you're going to soon and want to unveil it there or you're going to make a video, but if you're not planning those then why not let us now what impossible things you're hitting?

Mr. Boychuk, teach me to superfly.
Option B would make me a happy camper. No longer would I spend countless nights wondering what Jay was creating. I'd like some fresh ideas for moves to hit.
I wont ever be an Anssi, Milan or Aleksi if I just try Alpine Nemesis for a month straight.
Too late.

as much as i would want to see all of your inventions i totally agree with the filming bit. i tend to put up the cam and let it run untill i forget about it (yeah, with my old alcohol destroyed brain that works suprisingly well) or just never hit any good stuff. :P remmeber the trick i asked you about? i hit it today 3 times in a row, the last attempt was even sealed into a run with bl. whips, barfly and torques... then i wanted to film it... nada
but i do want to see the stuff you do anyway :P

btw: props for the laver choice!
