Who here is against smoking cigarettes in a circle of hack.

I personally wouldnt be offended if some one told me not to smoke in a circle.

I smoke, but im respectful of those who dont, and if someone would prefer it if i took it elsewhere, then I would.

I wouldn't play in a circle where people are smoking. It's distracting more than anything, and I don't like the smell of it. I'd ask the person nicely, and if they refused, I'd go play somewhere else.

This thread is clearly just a rip on Phil Morrison.

I smoke sometimes, but I don't like it in a circle. I've asked people to stop smoking right next to, or in the circle before. Sometimes it's really bothersome while you're trying to play.

why would you smoke while playing a sport that requires so much stamina? seems really counterproductive.

This thread is funny because Phillip Morrirson is the one who is opposed to smoking in the circles but Phillip Morris is the largest tobacco company in the U.S. Not sure if thats where you were going with this. Anyway, If it was just one cigarette then whatever. But if they were chain smoking the whole session; absolutely not!

I don't understand how complaining about a particular person having a particular view is against the forum rules. I thought "personal attacks" referred to off topic insults. Especially in this topic, it seems useless to edit out the "personal attack" but leave in all the posts where that person is referred to. I don't see what is achieved.

On the topic at hand, I agree with Phil Morrison's view, and I'm pretty hostile towards smoking generally.

I agree with what jeremy said, I opened the topic and saw the edit but knew immediately who the "personal attack" was aimed at and what it was in reference to so I don't know what purpose it served

I personally don't really care if people smoke in circles. I'm not a fan but it takes 5 mins to smoke a cig and that's 5 mins I can wait out

So if there is a topic, and someone insults you, should the insult be left in just because people continue to refer to you (in a non-insulting way) later in the same thread? I don't see what's insulting about what remains in this thread and I wonder what you think a better course of action would be for the mods in this case?

No what I'm saying is surely the only reason "personal attacks" are against the forum rules is to avoid conflict, but that obviously doesn't work if the intent of the personal attack is still there. Phil obviously knows that he was attacked and insulted, so do you really think his response would be much different as if he could actually see what grievous attacks were made against him? The approach taken doesn't appear to prevent any conflict.

Personally I've always been opposed to censorship and if people insult me I'd definitely rather know how they feel and for them to be free to express themselves however they like without moderation (although that obviously doesn't mean I will agree with what they say, or respond in a positive manner). The only exception to this would be non-footbaggers trolling this forum - I'm all for those people being banned and having their posts deleted. I don't think a healthy community is one where negative feelings between members are swept under the carpet rather than being dealt with openly.
