Dude. Bad ass stuff. I see what you mean about keeping the butters in Phoenix> Ripped very low. I'll try it like that next time.

Really sick strings though. You're definitely piecing things together well.

Suggestions:

I saw that you zoomed a decent bit... But I'd love to see Zooming Mobius (Something ending in Osis> Mob) and Zooming Vortex (Something ending in Osis> Vortex) in your runs.

The ripstein> inspinning butterfly was gnasty... You can def turn it into a whirl. I can taste those cookies. I'm sure you can too. :P

PS. I pm'ed you this, but you never responded, guess you didn't see it... What colors would you like your footbag to be? I have a lot of new colors now.

Props :D Cookie time smells like it's very close. I think it would be neat for you to hit Tobius in a string soon! Just a suggestion. I think that trick would look gnasty in a string of your's... plus that shit's probably easy for you.

Mark not since today I am a fan of your style. I envy you how easy are fearless for you. My gameplan is a bit different and there is no place for fearless training now but when I begin shreds with being focused at fearless progress, I know where I will be looking for inspiration.

Keep kicking!

Those last two videos are so good.

I particularly like:

•The long diving / ducking string in the last video
•When it looks like you are doing all of those variations of crossbody moves into each other

You have one of my favorite styles and you are even higher on the list for trick selection.

I think it would fun to see you hit some drills where you systematically linked all of your core crossbody tricks and repeated it on the other side. Something of epic length so that it can take on a sort of flow or visual-musicality (something progressive and classical as a disciplinary exercise and not like your usual and impressive flow). It just seems like you have them down so well, and since you have the discipline of a musician, it would be interesting to see some of these executed methodically like scales. I bet you could hit some drills of substantial length, like a hundred contacts at least, and it would be awesome to witness.

@ Radek... 8O ..thanks man. I wouldnt say that they are that easy but im trying to dial them in. The ones that are easier though are the ones that I have been hitting over and over. I GREATLY APPRECIATE your compliment and am glad to be of any inspiration to players. Thanks for your tips on blenders......all of the recent blenders that I have been hitting are from your drills....thanks man 8) on a side note....i am far away from swirling void b2b but swirling spender is finally getting where I might be able to hit it in a run......your challenge took me a long time to get and now I want to be able to use it

@Ian.... 8O ......thanks man. As far as the ducking run......I was trying to just get a bunch of different tricks in the same run because a recent critique on my game was that I repeated to many tricks. That run took me about three or four attempts. I did the ducking because those are a bit easier for me . When I first started playing I decided that Lon's long ducking strings were some of the coolest shit I had ever seen so I spent a considerable amount of time on them. Its been a while since I had tried linking the variations but it went ok.......I started with the 3s and was just trying to do the 4 add versions after but just randomly went into the ducking osis varitions.....i also completely forgot about ducking paradox tricks.....
Thanks you for the style and trick selection compliment... As far as the scale like drills.....I have thought about this before and have tried a couple of things but now I will revisit this idea.....The one time I shred with David Clavens I ask him if he took request.......he said yes thinking I was going to ask for something huge (considering this was around the time that the ALOT OF INTENSE SHIT ON VIDEO was being released by him) I had no idea of the magnitude of his shred......but when I asked him for a request it was like some 22 trick drill that I had been working on and just wanted to see what it looked like when it was hit correctly. He said it was like getting code. I should have asked for furious p mirage>toe set mullet rake>inspinning mobius , or ripped warrior>nemesis>gauntlet.......but oh well...........

As far as long methodical drills.....what do u have in mind....?

Thank you both for your posts. This was the first week that I have played 5 days in a row in months. I love footbag but for the first time since I have started I have recently felt discouraged. I still have not been to a comp to meet the players that feel like friends from far away and compete. I need to make more money than I am making and its hard for me to get to a comp. I will make it a point to go to a comp this year. When I see footage of circles at comps I want to be there so bad. Every one tells me its different to play at your first comp and I want that feeling now.

When I saw your posts it made me feel appreciated and grateful. I love this game and feel a peace like no other when Im lost ( or found ) in a run. I figured I dont have the youth or time to play at milans level but I admire him and players of that level so much. I figure I can however get a couple of tricks to keep that bag off the ground and keep me in that moment. And maybe hit a trick that no one had ever hit or thought of ....this way one day players will bsos things like swirling mobius screw or swirling gyro mofly, or swirling gyro backside nemesis (which is defintely possible)

Anyway...thank you both and and I will be filming again soon.. 8)

I think I speak for a bunch of people here that you are a well-regarded player, regardless of not being an add-devouring monster from another planet. The reason I wanted to suggest mega-contact drills was because I think you, with your natural ability and the focus from music could probably benefit from the execution of some long lines of code.

There is a phenomenon that when people watch someone do something, the same parts of the observers brains light up under a scan. I mention this, because when you get lost in your strings, you can guarantee that other do as well. It's pretty remarkable how much flow and variety you have, and when you string long it's like- what the hell just happened!!!

So, I wanted to encourage you to max-out and master the transitions of all these crossbody elements that you have down, because if you were to take the component approach (that I believe I heard Moir mention before) I bet you could easily break 100 contacts. Just a hunch, and I am neither a doctor nor a psychic.

Also, I was gonna say: that run was very Lon Smith, and since witnessing him at worlds 2010, he has become one of my favorite players.

Looking forward to the new films man... as always :P

When Ian suggested methodical drills, this reminded me of how Lon Smith does carries his style... Kinda like super stylish tap-dancing. He goes completely muted for a good bit, then makes stomping sounds. I love that about his style. Been experimenting with that method lately. You should definitely try it.

In other news, the bag I'm stitching for you is looking so bad ass. I'm talkin, this thing could sit down in a biker bar and people would buy it beers. I think you're really going to like it. I think it kind of reflects your style a little bit, since your style is also bad ass. Going to try to finish it tonight.... like right meow. Later.

Right- the whole sound of a game and the impact / attenuation that comes about with integrating muted elements into a string. The way that it cuts into a string is like the equivalent of breaks in a beat or even scratching. In a synesthesic manner, or perhaps as a direct analogy, muted tricks have a very hip hop or perhaps glitch impression that keeps the audience on their seat, like waiting for a beat to drop.

The appeal of the muted quality is what led me to suggest to Nick:

Code: Select all

rev. swirl- twirl-rev. whirl, repeat
While I realize that the foot becomes unmuted for the rev. whirl, I like the tension that is created to the flow, while transitioning into the series of tricks that come about on the other side / foot.

Having said this, I am going to get back to some suggested challenges / drills:

Code: Select all

rev. swirl- twirl- rev. whirl- rpt

Code: Select all

rev. swirl- twirl- symposium whirl- symposium rev. whirl- swirl- repeat

Code: Select all

Twirl- blender- swirl- rev. swirl- repeat

b2b with various things for the transition. I think that if you could do several of these with different tricks as the transition element, that it would be very cool in a deliberate kind of way. Again, I thinking about a pacing and aesthetic that would be very muted, but would have both a visual and percussive element that would make itself interesting and apparent over a progressive number of measures.

EDIT: the last drill might be interesting substituted with simple blenders.
Best.

^ Nick......I am looking forward to the bag.....sounds badass....your the man

^Ian.....I think I see what your getting at and I do have something in mind.....I have thought for quite some time about different ways to put routines together......Instead of writing the routine to music....I could write the routine musically. Each individual run or drill does have its own song, so I think now is a great time to start putting a routine and a composition together.
by pairing tricks in measures and grouping them in musical phrases, it allows the phrases (drills) to be put together like musical loops.
Let the project begin...
