August 7th 2011

Milan is the circle champ. Milan Megalodon Benda is a much better nickname than Milan Megatron.

I'm kind of an anti Milan guy but the kid can fucking play. Double spinning swirl attempts in competition. Gimme a fucking break.

Got new insoles today. Been playing with the same lavers for over a year and I didn't change the insoles so shin splints have been a problem this week.

I played like shit today. (I blame shin splints and sore legs. I've been playing everyday for a while now.) Anyway toward the end of the session I...(eh I'll try and film it) You can thank Phil Morrison for no reason. 7 Adds no dexs, xspin, or uns. Cleanliness is an issue so I need to film it.

lol at worlds sounding like the worst week of everyones life. no parties, sideline shred, interaction between different countries. it almost sounds professional. lmfao. it sounds boring as fuck but professional.

Yeah that video up there is fucking hilarious. Hahahaha. Fucking megalodon biting a fucking plane. Wow. Fucking sci fi channel movies. Good god.

Later. This actually sounded like a happy post. :D

Posted a single trick in the new moves thread. In the video I'm wearing one old laver and one non laver sneaker. I had to shoe goo my actual lavers.
Diving is the weirdest concept ever. Despite being decent at gyro diving I can't picture it sitting down. I have to stand up and I just do it...it's weird. But yeah watch the video it is a cool trick. Tomorrow I will try and get the massiveness on video.

I'm not cool like Ken so no cool hyperlinks. The real Milan= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F.C._Internazionale_Milano

Nah I am just kidding but I'm not gonna bash on the guy. Its like listening to people that are incredible at some instrument or something. I can tell that it is impressive but I can't relate to it whereas listening to rap/ watching people with trick selections closer to mine is more enjoyable.

After playing with some peeps I always get motivated so I'm riding that for a bit. Worked my double spins 'cause I know if John Goode spent 10 minutes tomorrow afternoon he would be better than me at that. And that is one of the few things I may(big may) be better at. I tried double spinning ducking once and that is not hard at all. If you can double spin and have the ability to move your neck you're good.

Man I learn so much by playing with other people. Plus this is the first time where I feel I wasn't getting completely pulverized. This would be like a 35-10 game in American football whereas last time was 48-0. This time I learned I suck at diving and just straight ducking stuff out of osis. Also Ricky is a homeless, trash talking, meth-head. Be awesomer. I also learned that Felix's nickname isn't cold stone it is in fact stone cold. I guess it makes sense but who knew?

Speaking of trash talking more of that needs to happen or maybe showboating. That shit is fucking cool. I did that all the time in middle school and shit. I would trash talk my friends all the time it was awesome. I guess it would be lame if you were just casually playing around and stuff. But circle first round or something I'll heckle somebody to no end. How awesome would this conversation be.
"Hey penske you suck."
"corey its your last turn feel like throwin in a dex. oh sweet string length. hows 4th place?"
Honestly I could have so much fun. Wide receivers and corner backs talk the entire game. I need to somehow be able to do the footbag equivalent of this. Or this.

What would that be?

Highlights(i guess)
spinning ducking swirl where my foot didn't hit the ground. I didn't seal it or anything but Drew said it counted. i had a good set out of it though
Merkon? Have it hit this? I wanna hit some double spinning legovers. Those look so fucking hot. I tried for like a good 3 minutes to no avail.
double spinning stuff I hit ds osis more than once in a run which is kind of cool.
Geez no highlights from 3 sessions I suck.

1. How old are you? (serious question)
2. Why?

I love that footbag isn't a popular, jock-ish sport and I feel that the dominating sense of competition in such sports instill sucks. I personally would loose a ton of respect for a player if they trash-talked or insulted another player in a circle (especially in competition). I mean, freestyle (as evidenced by the nature of circle competition) hold roots in the simple hack circle, which is all about having fun and socializing. Why bring this negative energy to a positive sport?

Sorry I'm trolling your blog, but you just say a lot of things that make me go :?: :?: :?: :?:

18. It is fun. Seriously! You know how many times I've beaten better players in 1 on 1 games because they can't deal with trash talking? Where I am from if you can't deal with someone telling you that you're worse than them you don't deserve to win. I've lost games because of it.
I bet you've never played sports for money. If you think with 50 bucks on a 2 on 2 game I'm not trashing you're crazy.
Negative energy? Seriously? So many times I've been trash talked and somebody said something and I just burst out laughing. Is telling somebody to shoot and that they have no jump shot really such a bad thing? Is stepping over a player you crossed up some crime against humanity? That is an everyday occurrence from where I'm from. Seriously though it is fun and if you don't get too personal than it is fine.

I'd love to see you try to do that in a (serious) competition circle and see how that goes for you

Surging is the most annoying set ever! Omg! It is impossible to get the spot before the spin and after the spin but before the dex. Grrr. Literally nobody cleans surging more than 60% of the time. So frustrating. I think like Felix and other people just stopped trying to clean them. I am literally about to put a hole in my wall. (if i was capable of doing such a thing) Curse you inventor of surging. Maybe I need to be taller like Mr. Olav? He can hit triple spinning and still pulls his surges. This set is very difficult.

It's not something I spend time on, but I've hit a few clean surging sets (strong only) and I've realized to get them clean, try to spin fast, and dex with a high knee. That seemed to work best.

Also wanted to say, nice video part in John Goode's blog. Double Spinning Osis really looks like you own it. Your spinning ducking looks good too. If you like spinning so much, you should try some Inspin tricks and some Sonic tricks.

Edit: Also, for the record, with you and Nick Pasquarello's arguement... I agree with Nick. The reason I liked footbag in the first place was that it was non-competitive and friendly. I was never a sports person :P

I need to work on my surging. Today was only my second real day surging and it was inside.
We were both playing like shit that day but thanks. Double spinning isn't first try and is still a little ugly if you ask me. Those spinning ducking clippers make me want to puke. But I like the props. I still need a ton of work on ingyro and inspinning or just any work out all. I haven't done too much with either one.
I was mostly being facetious but then just rolled with it. It is fun to do with your best friends though when you know they won't get pissed. I'm not showing up to worlds making 9/11 jokes or anything.

Lol I can actually hit things besides spinning clipper. :D I've hit all of these before but here is a little video. Tibia delay and pendulous rake are my favorite. Yeah the quality is fucking terrible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTUhdUTtN6s

I'm no Ricky but here is a decent link and some UGLY spinning ducking clippers. Puke. They're not deep at all and I did 11 earlier but I only filmed the last like 3 minutes. Those last two aren't even spinning ducking clippers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTXsoqBagA4

Keep Inspinning/In-gyro...

However, you shouldn't drill Nuclear and Butterfly Swirls just how they are. To get good at Butterfly Swirls, you should drill Symp Swirl and Butterfly... For Nuke, drill Atomic sets and Pdx Illusions... Once you spend a nice amount of time on these smaller concepts, Nuke sets and Butterfly Swirls will be a cakewalk for you. Good luck dude.

Inspinning and ingyro are the hardest of the three for me. Strange.

Today haha today. It was an ok day lol. I hit one huge fucking butterfly swirl. :) Spinning ducking osis, gyro diving osis, gyro weaving osis, and spinning zulu osis all in the same run. I couldn't double spin to save my life though. I almost landed a double spin that was set to mid chest. Inspinning advicezzzz pleazzzze. Allllllllllaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My inspin isn't the best, but maybe I can help anyway.

One thing that helps me with inspin is to set from osis...

Picture an inspinning clipper set from right clipper > front spin > left clipper stall to finish.

That is a counter-clockwise rotation. Now, if you did right foot osis > same osis > same osis... you'll also be rotating counter-clockwise. So, setting an inspin from osis, the osis already has you rotating in the correct direction (as opposed to setting a back-spin off an osis, where you must reverse the direction of your rotation), and this sort of gives me some MOMENTUM to do the inspin.

So,
osis > osis > good energetic set as you begin to > front-spin > left clipper.

Also worth trying: osis > inspinning osis. Sometimes I think inspinning osis is EASIER than inspinning clipper. In this combo in particular, the osis you end on is the same osis you start on. So,
osis > same osis > inspinning osis -- is ALL the same foot setting and catching.

If you feel like a challenge, then try:
spinning clipper > inspinning clipper.
Right foot set spinning clipper ending on right foot again is a clockwise rotation, and then right foot set inspin to left clipper end is a counter-clockwise rotation, so you've got to go 360 in one direction straight into a 360 in the opposite direction. Even harder would be inspinning clipper to inspinning clipper, but I can't remember for sure if I've ever actually done that...
Hope that helps. Good luck.

I find no difference between setting from clipper or osis, but that may be just me.

For me, the key to inspinning is getting both feet on the ground as fast as possible, and THEN spinning. Most people lose balance on inspins because they are trying to spin too fast, and don't have their feet ready for this. For big inspinning tricks (mobius, GDLO, vortex, whirl) I can ONLY hit them if I focus on getting both feet planted quickly. Then the rest usually takes care of itself.

Here's what Nate Linscott wrote, that helped hammer this point home to me:

I agree with everything Jon and Ken said, but I thought I'd add 2 things that really help me with Inspinning... These are the steps I take...

1) Set the bag with, say, your right foot clipper
2) Set the bag slightly toward your opposite shoulder and glance at it as soon as it's on it's way up.
3) As soon as you spot the bag for a split second, like Ken said, plant both feet, then spin... (for the spin you can either use quick footsteps to get through it; Not too many though... or If you watch Vasek do them, you'll notice that he hops twice (I think?) through the spin.

I feel like this trick really takes some time to completely figure out the right set placement for, but once you get it, you get it.

Oh and, DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY UP IN THE AIR TO SPOT THE BAG!!! You'll lose your balance like crazy. Spot the bag at eye level.

And I agree with what Jon said, start playing with these with an Osis set. It's much easier. Once you get the Osis> Inspin fairly well, then try it from clipper.

Godspeed.

Hope some of this helps.

thanks for all the tips guys! I'll try and put them into action later today. I'm weird I find inspinning out of clipper easier because with osis I have a tendency to set cross body on inspins but I did land a couple today.

only highlight of the day was a run with dsc and double spinning osis as well as spinning ducking osis>calf stall
