STRIDE Gum Competition

Post by WyrmFyre »

Spotted this on youtube, ive not had a chance to read up on it fully myself. From what i gather though, its a competition by STRIDE gum to win $500 by breaking a record for the longest consecutive rally between thre people using a sheet of screwed up paper....

Anyway, posted here for your viewing pleasure, and if it turns out to be a waste of your time/internet bandwidth, then i apologise :)

Holy shit haha! That is awesome. I'm in. I just got to find a third. Let me know when you get more information. I hope it's not done and over with yet. We should all start ours with a DATW to gives us more recognition. Awesome find man!

As of now, the record is 12 seconds. Game isn't over because you must hold the record until the end of the 100 days. I think I'll go for this one lol...

Who wants to do this one???

Man, the website they have is really crappy. Loaded with errors. But yeah, the current record on there is only 12 seconds. Breakable.

Interesting that this hasn't been updated. Looks like Ken dominated the 12s record in a recent video I saw on YouTube...

The Stride Gum record contests ended yesterday. They laid out 100 records, and if you held the record for any of them after their 100 day period ended (yesterday), you won $500.

As far as I could tell, there were two contests which were directly related to hacky:

1. Longest time for three people to keep a crumpled 8x11 paper aloft, hacking it.
2. Longest time for one person to hack a duct tape hackysack.

There was also a record for bouncing a baseball on a single knee.

Anyway, as of this morning (9 hours after the contest officially ended), the above two records were still held by footbaggers. I don't think we should celebrate just yet, since it's possible somebody submitted a winning record between 5pm-midnight yesterday, which would count, and they might still be reviewing. That said, I think there's a very good chance we win at least one, if not both of them. I'll update here again when I get any official news.

Stride is supposed to announce winners today on Facebook. I haven't seen anything yet though. People can check the above link. If it changes, and winners are posted, can somebody update here on modified? As of right now, footbaggers are currently holding two records: #78 and #16. I'll check after work too.

Haven't received direct word from Stride yet, but on their facebook page the company that hosted their records posted this:

http://recordsetter.com/stridewinners

I'm hopeful that that's the final list, in which case footbaggers will have won both of the hacky related contests, and the money that goes with them. I kinda feel like I don't want to celebrate until I receive the checks though.

So it looks like Stride outsourced the contest to a website that specializes in posting and confirming records (Recordkeeper). Apparently this is common for companies to do. In any case, the lines of communication haven't been very coordinated so far. Here's what I've seen so far:

1. Recordkeeper posted the list of winning entries on Stride's Facebook page.
2. People asked recordkeeper when/how they get paid. Recordkeeper responded that the payment part is taken care of by Stride.
3. People asked Stride about payment. Stride answered in two spots the same thing: winners will be contacted by phone or email.

I have yet to hear anything, but when I do I'll post here.

As for the paper hack record, we'll see what happens. According to Stride's rules, we could be disqualified for having copyrighted music in the background. When that was pointed out on Recordkeeper's website however, the Recordkeeper people said it was fine. I'm assuming/hoping that Stride completely outsourced the records part to Recordkeeper, in which case we're fine. But we'll see.

Last I saw on Facebook, Stride says we'll get money by end of November. Yeesh.

email recordkeeper and ask them to cut the offensive sound from the video, or offer to re-upload with non-offending sound. I got an email back from the guy who run recordkeeper within hours of asking a question a few weeks ago.

Just got off the phone with Stride. Good news all around:

 They confirmed that we won both hackysack contests (3 people hacking a crumpled 8x11 paper, and 1 person hacking duct tape hacky).
 They will be fedexing me a cheque and the paperwork in the next couple weeks. I also got to confirm that they had my new address, which is key since I moved since entering.

Evan and Bear, congrats, we did it. I'll be in touch about the best method to send you your cut once I get the cheque.

Almost three months after the contests closed, I finally got the prize cheque. Wow. Despite all the administrative headaches along the way, it sure felt good to sign and deposit it. Brian and Evan, I'll be sending you your cuts soon.
