Vote! Vegas Jizzam Sick 3 contest

Post by C-Fan »

This weekend we ran Sick3 at Vegas Jizzam, but decided to leave the voting to modified. Please place a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place vote for your favorite combos. The poll will close in one week, Monday night, the 26th.

Alex Dworetzky hit blw-blw-psw, but it was accidentally deleted, so we did a recreation for those who can't visualize shit.

Here's the combos hit, followed by the video:

Alex D: Blurry whirl-blurry whirl-ps whirl (reenactment)
Brian Bear: Motion sickness-mobius-spinning osis
Evan Gatesman: 69-PSW-symp bubba egg
Ken S: bedwetter-darkwalk-paranoia
Ben Skaggs: blurriest-tomahawk-blurry torque

Damb. This is just too hard to decide. Alex had probably the easiest links, so I would put him in 5th. Now it gets hard. Ken's had 2 hard links where as the others had hard tricks but really only 1 hard link. So on that grounds I would give him first. I would say that motion sickness>mobius is the hardest link imo but the last trick seemed like a bail, 69>ps whirl is hard anything out of 69 is but ps whirl to symp bubba egg is kind of a draw back on that combo. Blurriest>tomohawk is another one of those vanilla 5>5 links but tomohawk>blurry torque seems super hard. All three of those I could give a tie. If I had to rank them in order it would go;
1 Ken
2 Evan
3 Ben
4 Brian
5 Alex
This is really unfair to try to judge, more reason to drop sick 3 and replace it with sick 5. 2-4 could really go in any order and so could 1 but I like the wholeness of the combo. Is there supposed to be a pole?
I like to play.
I want to play good.

We decided against a poll, since that'd only determine 1st place. Instead we're doing a system similar to the MVP voting in the NBA, where 1st place votes are worth 5 pts, 2nd place are worth 3, and 3rd place are worth one. Rankings are then determined based on total points at the end. We feel this gives a more accurate picture of where the combos stood in relation to each other.

I dont think the people in the contest should vote, but here are some general observations I took away from the combos after making the video and rewatching them:

 The two hardest links that were hit were motion sickness-mobius, and tomahawk blurry torque. I'd say Brian's link is harder though.
 Brian's last trick was a mobius attempt which turned into spinning osis. While the last trick was a bail, he still zoomed into it, which meant he used both zooms in his combo. I think that's notable.
 Evan's 69 was the biggest trick hit in comp. That said, the links that followed weren't hard links (e.g. stepping out of whirl, or zooming), and psw is the bailiest five to hit off of anything.
 Evan and Brian's combos started off with a six, while Ben and mine (if you count xspin for mine) ended with sixes. While adds dont mean everything, I gave Ben props for putting both his hardest trick and hardest link at the end of his combo.

One week left to vote. Thanks for helping us out!

I dont know Ken, i can hit motion sickness>mobius and tomahawk>B torque, but I cant hit ps whirl to anything cool at all....I think the idea of what s harder is a little subject to ones on personal bag of tricks.

Here are my rankings

1. Evan - thought it was the coolest combo by far ...hardest trick in the comp linked to to symp tricks..
2. Ken - Like that it started with a triple dex but the last trick needed something more, like a butterfly or a whirl.
3. Ben- Solid 5>5>6 not an easy link
4. Alex- Solid 5>5>5 reinactment .
5. Brian- loved the link but the last trick places you low because its sick 3

1-Brian
2-Evan
3-Ben

If there was a rule to call your combo before to hit them, then Brian can't be 1st... so just put evan, ben, ken.

Also Brian hit spinning symple osis. Wich is slighty harder then spinning osis because you don't have the plant to adjust yourself...

1. Ben (hardest link, good variety including a triple dex, a duck and a spin. Two solid moves and then a very impressive trick.)
2. Ken (variety and tough moves, the last link seems difficult. I would have been more impressed to see paranoia as the first or second move into another hard trick)
3. Evan (hardest trick, but the rest doesn't seem that special)

Brian's was really close to placing in the top 3. If he hit mobius instead of bailing I would have placed him first.

I don't see how it is a 6. x-spin is only for moves with "full" spins, while Ken's move has 3 spins, none of them full. I'm not aware of anybody proposing a different definition of x-spin than Eric Wulff

"2. X-Spin - full spins build to be worth 2 adds each after the first is
completed.

3. The “in” of an in-spin is worth 1 add.

This is similar to the over dex in a “butterfly” or a “double over down”
being worth 1 add. This will only effect the add counts of full spins with
an “in” added to them. Why? because in-osis, osis, torque, etc. already
get a body add for the “half” type spin which may be understood as “in” and
similar to “over”. "
