I’ve started on this, and it’s shaping up well. The footage I have is great, and I like the song I picked. The challenge is just making the images go as well with the music as possible. The weather forecast for the next couple days is cold, so hopefully I can tear myself away from Team Fortress 2 enough to finish this up before I leave town for Thanksgiving break.C-Fan wrote: I should start focusing on making my Gatesman video for the Joulukalentari.
This weekend had some pretty frustrating logistics in terms of footbag. Friday was gorgeous out during the workday, and when I got out at 4, it was still shreddable weather. Sadly, I got stuck in traffic, so by the time I got home it was too dark and cold to play.
Saturday’s high was only in the mid-40s, but it wasn’t too bad in the sun if you were moving. My legs felt good, so I put on a long sleeve shirt and went out to warm up. I was feeling very good with my fearless, so it was therefore a crushing disappointment when my camera battery died in the first 5 minutes of my session. Ugh. I decided to not waste the weather, and got in a session anyway. It was actually a bit of a mixed blessing to play without the camera, since that freed me to work on the fearless links at the end of my combo that had been giving me trouble. The forecast for Sunday was warmer than Saturday, so I felt optimistic I could film the next day. As it turned out, the forecast was wrong. Sunday was way colder, with highs in the high 30s, maybe touching low 40s at the best times. Stubborn guy that I am, I decided to play anyway. Played in a hat for a while, but that kinda threw me off on my ducking tricks. Once I warmed up though, I was able to play pretty normally. I just couldn’t take extended rests between turns, since I’d cool off in a hurry.C-Fan wrote: If the weather’s good enough this coming weekend, I think I can break it then. If not, maybe over Thanksgiving break when I go someplace warmer. .
I mostly worked on getting 10 fearless, but also threw in some regular runs so I’d stay warm and not get frustrated. In good news, I hit 10 unique fearless on video! When the 10th trick landed on my clipper, it felt solid enough to try for another 5. Yet during that instant, my brain did some very fast mental calculus and decided to play it safe. The last few sessions had shown me how hard it was to get to ten, and while it would have been cool to push to eleven or twelve, I also realized it was getting colder out. There was no guarantee I’d get to ten again that session, so rather than try for more, I played it safe and banked the combo by sealing it with an osis to a short run.
Overall I was pretty happy about the ten fearless combo, for a few reasons. While I didn’t break my fearless record, matching it at age 31 nearly 5 years after the last time almost felt like I was setting a new record. If that makes any sense. I was also happy, because yesterday’s combo was vastly different from the one I hit in Jan 07. Five of the tricks were different from last time, and none of the links were the same. Finally, I’m also happy because the combo I hit leaves me optimistic I can expand on it. It’s not like I pushed my limits and barely made it to ten. Thirteen or even fourteen contacts are clearly within reach.
So what next? I think my plan is going to be to rest for a couple days, and then sporadically work on fearless over my next few sessions. Wednesday I will probably get out of work early, and the forecast looks good. Then I have 3 days in good weather for TG, where I can hopefully make time for footbag. I’m probably not going to dedicate entire sessions to fearless, but if things are flowing well I’m going to shoot to break my record. Beyond breaking my record, I will also try to make the combo a little different from the one I just got. If I’m successful, I’ll make a vid clip when I get back of any and all combos I get of 10 or more. If I don’t manage to get to ten again over break, I’ll just release vid of the ten I caught on film yesterday.
Why do I tempt fate by writing stuff like this? After shred yesterday, my left knee started feeling bad again. I only did a couple of PSWs on that leg during the session, but I bet that had a lot to do with it. Also probably doesn’t help that I’ve been playing on asphalt the last week. I need to find a gym with carpeting or hardwood to lessen the impact on my feet. I think I’m also going to put in a new pair of insoles soon.C-Fan wrote: In other news, my knees are feeling better. .
Here’s a short vid of yesterday’s runs in the cold. As mentioned above, I’m saving the clip of 10 fearless for a vid I’ll release next week.
