Work’s been crazy, so haven’t had a chance to comment until now.
First off, I want to thank Jay for bringing back the Joulukalenteri. I think it’s a great tradition, and I’m honored he let me start this year's off with this Gatesman video. As of Day 5, it looks like we’re in for a great December.
Next, I’d like to thank Evan. 95% of this video was shot while I was in Vegas this summer for work. Evan showed me around, shredded with me, and overall made me feel like part of his family. This video is my small way of thanking him for being awesome, and not just at footbag.
I’m glad people liked the song. It was a bit of a struggle to find something that worked, since I wanted a song that’d reflect both the fun and the epicness of Evan’s game. Eventually I found this mashup on YT, and I think it worked well.
I did try and find backgrounds which were varied and interesting, and when those weren’t available I tried to at least mix up filming angles. The only shot in the final cut I debated dropping was the alpine bed bsos string, since the lighting in that gym sucks. I ultimately decided to keep it though, since it was such a short clip, and also since it’s such a rare bsos.
Rewatching the video now that it’s done, I think the weirdest thing to me is the lack of ripsteins in it. Other than the staged ripstein shot in the mountains in the beginning, there are no ripsteins in the video. That’s a little weird, since Evan is so good at them and normally throws them a lot. But overall I was very happy with how the video turned out. I put more time editing this than I have any of my other videos, and so it made me very happy to receive editing props from modified.
I initially posted only a Vimeo link, since it allows people to DL the video, and also because it automatically shows the video in HD. Now that it’s been released, I’ve also uploaded a copy to YouTube, since I know that loads faster for some people, and its easier for people to stumble across it.
