My 2 cents -- we'd have been better off if the game had always been called Hacky Sack, and the name Hacky Sack was NOT a registered trademarked name of some company. The name "footbag" is very short on charm, and often hard for the ears of the unititiated to distinguish from one of the biggest sports in the USA and one of the biggest sports in the world. If I could, I'd go back in time to tell John Stalberger to do things in reverse, to call the game hacky sack, and to call his own brand of hacky a "Footbag", and sell the name "footbag" to Wham-O, or whoever. Hacky-Sack has a ring to it, and is not mistaken for two other much more recognizable sports.

Completely agree with Jon on this one. I kinda hate the word "footbag." Hackysack is much catchier, and as Jon points out, isn't confused with any other sports. Footbag sounds like a symptom of foot leprosy or something.

I've enjoyed reading all the wishes so far. I think I like Jay's best.

Maybe we can make a wish come true right here right now. Let's change the name to hacky sack.

so you want real life slow-motion capabilities?? haha

no comment atm on this topic but I want to echo Simon's wish of everyone in the world having a footbag. In third world nations, something so simple yet so complex as this sport could resonate easily if everyone had one. when I went to Africa when I was 13 we introduced bags to some villagers (I obviously wasn't into freestyle then) but they totally maxed my consecutive record in a matter of minutes!! So much potential. if only..

Reading over this thread, I liked Jay's wish the most, followed by Dante's. Dante's has the advantage of being possible though.

I'm not sure if this would be my wish, but I'd be curious to see what the sport would be like if hackysack wasn't a fad in the 80s, adopted by stoners and hippies. Like, if the US public had no preconceptions of footbag, and their first exposure was just to actual freestyle and net. I feel like now, if you tell somebody you play footbag, they just assume you are a stoner at a Phish concert kicking a bag with 5 other uncoordinated people, using one leg, and sucking. In japan and Europe I feel footbag did a lot better, because people saw players linking hard tricks, and didn't conflate it with a skill-less fad from 20 years ago.

Rename all the tricks so they involve poop. Poopstein, around the poop ATP, poopdulum, etc.

In reality I would want more recognition and more people to be involved.

Lmao @ the last two comments....

Cool thread Ken. I'd say my wish is possible through many of the other wishes here. But I just want what Chris said exactly; "The ability to go to any random city and step into a freestyle circle." That would make so many different styles and types of game among players. It would push players even more to become better than ever. It would be so exxcitttinggg.

The problem is not the name hacky sack in my opinion but the idea of two different names. If hacky sack had always been the only one used there would'nt be any problem. We should work on showing people that hacky sack is cool instead of showing people that hacky sack and footbag is different things (they really aren't).

Hacky sack is a way better name than footbag.

edit: Just saw everybody pretty much said the same as me.

to be able to string as long as i want and never drop or get tired.

because long strings look pro and are a lot more fun than short ones...and this would also imply that i wasnt too injured for this to be a reality....
coverin all my bases in one go

EDIT!- lemme put it this way...my one footbag wish:

I wish I could play without having to look at the bag all the time. I want to stare deeply into the eyes of the people walking by.

selfish wish: To have never been diagnosed with arthritis at the age of three

unselfish wish: Recongnition sounds great for all the players who deserve it, but I enjoy the idea of being able to be anywhere and be able to play freestyle footbag. so I guess my wish would be for all those people that come by me when I'm shredding my head off to not just stare and say "omg that is amazing" but for people to be more open-minded to new things, for people to have the ability to push past the first minute..into 5 minutes..into 10 mintues..into 1 hour...into 3 times a week... into 4 hours a day.... (Iguess this goes for all of humanity) but, realize that your probably not going to be a prodigy, but you still can be and do whatever you want to do, as long as you try and try again

Hahahaha Rory's made me crack up! Outstanding mental image just now.

I like Cale's wish too. That would be great. Our newer member, Jeremy Mellor has this with a lot of stuff. It's scary how easily he picks stuff up.
