Insanity Day 60: Core Cardio and Balance

Really feel like I'm on the final stretch now. woot! Great workout. Actually burned more than I thought I would but going in I had this workout confused with the recovery workouts. I guess because it's usually a recovery on wednesday, but this was a good sweat and a nice stretch at the end. I almost didn't make it through shoulder burners, but I was like... "I can't NOT finish on the last CC&B of the round!" So I pushed and I made it happen. Feel good.

Insanity Day 63: Fit Test

Mixed feelings. I worked hard and am still feeling a bit pooped from it, but my results were not that great. Although that kinda sums up my thoughts on the entire Insanity experience. A lot of it is my own fault for not being tight with nutrition and for not pushing myself. I'm really upset that I didn't bother to take pictures or measurements, but I was so sure the scale would budge. But nope, it just sat there at 180 the whole time. Le sigh.

Switch Kicks: 46/55/62/64/66 +20
Power Jacks: 50/58/61/58/66 +16
Power Knees: 71/89/103/107/112 +41
Power Jumps: 26/34/38/45/50 +24
Globe Jumps: 6/9/10/10/5 -1 :-(
Suicide Jumps: 13/15/17/16/14 +1 :-(
Push Up Jacks: 22/29/31/32/32 +1-
Low Plank Oblique: 37/46/50/60/64 +27

So overall, I did have lots of improvements, but the fact I did less than day one on Globe Jumps and that I slipped in suicide jumps really eats at me. Am I stronger for going through this the last 2 months? Definitely! And now I look forward to some hard core footbag for a few weeks.

FOOTBAG!!!!!

That's right. With insanity out of the way I am focusing mostly on footbag. I've got some body weight workouts planned as well, but I think footbag will still happen 6 days a week. W00T!

Played for over an hour in my kitchen. Here's the highs:

 68 clippers
 Ducking PS Whirl (strong only)
 Gyro Whirl both sides (new)
 Paradox whirl > paradox whirl
 21 tiltless
 24 tiltless
 68 clippers
 111 clippers
 64 clippers

Clippers were a matter of stamina today. I was getting played out as I got into the high 50s and just running out of steam. I'll get there.

Thanks Rory!

Tonight was my first workout with Convict Conditioning.

 Wall Push-Up:
20 reps (+4 pts)
30 reps (+6 pts)
22 reps (+4 pts)
 Knee Tuck:
20 reps (+5 pts)
22 reps (+5 pts)
20 reps (+5 pts)

And then footbag!

 Drifter bsos
 Paradox drifter both sides (new)
 89 clippers

The convict conditioning actually worked my muscles more than I thought it would for the first level. I was truly expecting to just blow through them with ease. I think I like that I couldn't. I am a bit disapointed that I didn't get higher on my clippers but I spent a lot of time working on drifters before taking serious attempts at alternating clippers so that could explain it. Anyway I'm really happy with drifter BSOS. I thought about trying it work today. I don't hit Drifter very often so it was a nice challenge. I want to get drifter to be a staple for me. It's got a ways to go. And paradox drifter was cool since I tried it a bunch and then it just momentarily clicked and I hit it one side to hand catch, then the other side to hand catch. SWEET!

That also stood out. That's a great drill. See how many total contacts you can get on it.

I'll keep working on it. That one felt pretty solid, but usually when I try it I lose balance right after. I think I had a short run following that one though. :-)

I did an intermitent fast today. No food or calories from supper last night to supper tonight. I think I did pretty good. I was hungry, but not crippling so. Hopefully my body ate some of it's own fat.

Wanted to mention my Intermittent Fast results. I fast for ~24 hours leading up to Friday nights supper. Saturday morning the scale showed down 5 pounds and while I was excited I remained realistic as I figured it would balance out. So this morning I weighed in again... I was down even further. Awesome. We'll see if that holds up or if it bounces back in the coming days. Either way, I'm pretty happy with the results and will try to do it at least once a week until I reach my goal. Now, onto todays workout:

HOLY SHIT, TONY! Great highlights buddy! Mullet?!? Mega props on that! Also, I'm psyched to see you working on flappers!

It's kinda funny reading these past entries that I missed in my absence from Modified... But your recent posts remind me almost EXACTLY of some of my posts just last year! I was hitting around 31 tiltless, gyro whirl (only one side at first), drifter b2b, my first 6 ADD and working flip flappers around the same time... It's like so spot on dude. Pretty soon, you're gonna start ducking your stepping sets and stuff! Those posts I made were only like a few months from now last year. Soon after that, I went Guiltless. I see it for you in the near future. Your work is severely paying off dude. Keep trying to beat your tiltless record and work on BOPs, while practicing proper form on all of it and you're going to get really good before you know it. Sorry for the long post, I have a session of my own to attend now. Good job, Tony. Reading your blog after this while off from the sport really just made my day :) Keep it up dude, I'm proud of you.

Thanks for the post. I remember when I came back to modified last winter you were at a spot in your game that I had just almost got to on a few occasions but each time something pulled me away from the sport. Since then I have watched you grow and grow and far outpace me in skill. What I'm trying to say is that I'm glad to hear you were working on all this stuff last year. Makes me feel like I'm not destined to be a lifelong tiltless player. That said... ducking my stepping sets? That might be in the near future... if I even had a stepping set. I've fooled around with it a bit and can hit it once in a while. Just tonight I tried and hit stepping same clipper both sides. But I don't know if they were clean.

Tonight's workout

Warm Up

 Jump Rope:
0:03:00 (+14 pts)
 Jumping Jacks:
50 jumping jacks (+15 pts)
 Body Weight Squat:
20 reps (+13 pts)

Convict Conditioning:

 Wall Push-Up:
30 reps (+6 pts)
31 reps (+6 pts)
 Knee Tuck:
30 reps (+5 pts)
30 reps (+5 pts)

Footbag

 72 clippers
 Pheonix bs
 50 tiltless
 113 clippers

It still amazes me how hard this first level of CC is. I started the wall pushups thinking I'd go for 2 sets of 50. It wasn't long before I knew that wouldn't happen. Progression standard is 3 sets of 50. Gonna take a while. With Knee Tucks I just decided to go for same as I did Wall Pushups. OUCH! Hurts so good.

bit of a rough day. Car didn't start so I called my boss and he came and picked me up. Work was stupid. Later I witnessed a car accident. Had some adventures in the cold trying to figure how to make sure the car starts in the morning. Did I mention it's -37C here. Ya. I don't like the cold. Anyways I didn't workout this morning because my wife wanted to sleep in and working out in the kitchen would wake her up. So I snuck in a workout at 10:30 after I was home for the day.

warm up:

Jump Rope:
0:05:00 (+24 pts)
Jumping Jacks:
50 jumping jacks (+15 pts)
Body Weight Squat:
20 reps (+13 pts)
Body Weight Lunge:
6 reps (+7 pts)
Push-Up:
20 reps (+30 pts)

footbag:

 Spinning legover both sides
 Flip whirl x 5

warm up

Jump Rope:
0:03:00 (+14 pts)
Jumping Jacks:
50 jumping jacks (+15 pts)
Body Weight Squat:
10 reps (+6 pts)
Body Weight Lunge:
5 reps (+6 pts)
Wall Push-Up:
15 reps (+3 pts)

Convict Conditioning

Vertical Pull:
40 reps (+36 pts)
40 reps (+36 pts)
40 reps (+36 pts)
Body Weight Shoulderstand Squat:
17 reps (+5 pts)
Body Weight Jackknife Squat:
11 reps (+5 pts)

So, shoulder stand squats suck. They hurt my neck, feel awkward, I can't get the right form and I don't feel them working my leg muscles in the slightest. The fact that they hurt my neck scares me. Since I don't feel them working what they should i decided to try the next step up and see if I could hit the Begginer Level. I could. Sweet. I'm moving on to it. No more hurting. I also got the progression reps for Vertical Pull. I think I'll spend at least one more session on it though. Put some strength in the bank.

Footbag

 Spinning clipper > duckijng clipper rpt
 108 clippers
 Flip flapper > same clipper > same flapper > op clipper rpt > 13 more tiltless

Not too happy with my footbag performance tonight. I wonder if doing CC + footbag is too much. Or if footbag every day is too much. Maybe I'll start skipping footbag on days I do CC. See if that helps any. My legs feel tired.
