FOOTBAG: Yoga for males.
FOOTBAG: Yoga for males.
There's so many topics on how we can promote footbag and increase it's popularity.
After doing yoga for a few months (which I enjoyed), I came to a conclusion. Yoga does the same thing for me as freestyle footbag does.
It got me thinking, what do they have in common?
1 - they are both not fundamentally competitive
2 - they are both enhanced by music
3 - they both have meditative qualities
4 - they are individual but still social
Yoga is dominated by females. Footbag is dominated by males.
Maybe we should be looking at the successful marketing of yoga as a model for promoting footbag.

I've been doing Yoga for about a year now and I feel differently. Footbag wrecks my body and Yoga fixes it -- I find them to be really different disciplines for me. I guess it depends on your style in both though, as there are both relaxing/meditative as well as aggressive styles in both footbag and Yoga.
i practice yoga regularly, and while i agree that it is similar in stretching muscles and in mindset (at least for me personally), i would say that my breathing is dramatically different during footbag than it is during yoga, and it is much more of a cardio workout for me. i do hatha yoga however, so other forms may be more similar in nature.
Dante, it's interesting how you mention music enhancing both. I actually personally prefer to do both without music. I always end up wanting to do what I'm doing along with the music. I only kick to music to acclimate myself for when I'm kicking with other people. When I do yoga, I am usually able to enjoy it and focus on it most in silence (aside from the instructor talking). But I guess this is all just me lol

Thanks for all the feedback. Even though all 7 votes were disagreements, I find everyone's ideas to be totally right. This was an idea I had and I wanted to put it out here to see what people thought.
I never even thought about the "body-fixing" aspect of yoga compared to footbag injuries haha
Also, Tony, yeah yoga's marketing has been hugely successful. And I also agree that it shouldn't be dominated by females. I also agree that footbag shouldn't be dominated by males. However, after doing yoga and doing footbag, I found that my brain was performing the same mental process during both activities. I was meditating in both instances. Thus, I phased yoga out of my life (for now) since it's purpose was redundant with footbag. For me.
Thus, my question!

I disagree with all of youz, except for Dante. I have always thought of footbag as a form of yoga. And yes, I was in yoga club for 3 years at my school (I actually did one yoga class with a footbag on my foot for more than half of the time to promote Penn State Footbag Club at my old campus
)
Footbag relaxes my mind and so does yoga. I feel like both of them are really good ways to relax the mind... When I'm midstring in a guiltless run, I feel the same as if I'm performing sun salutation.
Yes footbag may be harder on the body, but in my opinion, they do the same thing for my mind... but footbag is more fun
