Good stuff all around.

With shin splints, the trick is to rest and let them heal first, and then do a bunch of toe taps while you're at work. Doing the toe taps strengthens the shin muscles, so your calf muscles don't rip them off due to the strength imbalance. Let them heal first though, before doing the toe taps.

Really stoked about footbag again. Had a good solo session

Dlo>ss butter rpt
Duck clip>dive clip x8
Ducking xbd rake>Dimwalk bs

It's a little easier to get my self going now that I'm hitting new stuff. Before I just felt like I was covering old ground and being frustrated with myself.

The club has been taking some time off. We're doing some recouping and healing before we transition into nice weather and playing outside all the time.
I find I usually get injured around this time every year. I spend the winters really pushing my game and I accumulate little injuries along the way. Soon those cause big problems. I've started doing my street performing again this year and my training is now focusing on performance more than drills. I go from training around 6-8 hours a week to ~12 hours of playing per week. I need to make sure I don't have any lingering issues as I put my body through the work of summer.
Kicking for the first time this week was great. I'm so much better when I am fresh.
Here are a couple of my highlights today:
ripped warrior>mobius bsos first time
blurry whirl x 12
food processor>blurry whirl rpt
Still working on my flip pdx whirl. It's getting better.

Video Updates:
I have 2 VHS (1.5 hours) of old footage I just had converted to AVI. There are about 5 events on there from around 05-06. I'm thinking of leaving them raw to really capture the ambiance and nostalgia. They also feature many players. I am going to release a vid a week and make it an event, which I will write more about when I release the first vid.
I also have a vid of Chris Dean tearing it up with me out at Alki beach when he visited last summer. If not for janky converting and buggy windows movie maker that vid would have been out a while ago, as of now it's almost finished.
Exciting times ahead.

I spent most of today's session hung over, stretching, and working out, so I don't really know other highlights of the day. Reilley was looking really strong, Justin Stephens had a really good day, Scott has a huge bruise on his inner thy from a tiller, and Dan had an off day.

Khoa the football freestyler I perform with all the time has finished school at UW and is headed back to Vietnam before going to Penn State to get his next degree. Today was the last time I get to play with him. He will be missed and we wish him the best. It wont be easy filling his shoes but we've added two very promising 16 year old football freestylers to the group which will help.

Justin summed up the session pretty well but here's the fun stuff. :)

Justin S. dominated today and Reilley had some good strings too but these were the highlights we could find. Also I don't know if we have Justin's stuff on film but I'll check with Reilley to see if he has it. I'm thinking he might have been out of frame or something.

Our favorite highlight of the day... inspired by one of Ken's latest videos!

Justin was rocking through fearless stuff today.

We are still working on getting video out (broken record, I know). After a few hours of tinkering yesterday we've had to face the reality that the computers at our disposal are less than ideal for editing, and have neither the hardware nor software suited for this sort of thing. It looks like a major investment in a new computer is necessary to handle the file sizes and good software. Until then we'll look into something a little less fancy to just get us through. Sorry for all of the delays.

After some very frustrating setbacks I finally got this out. Took me twice as long as it should and I'm not that enthused about the video quality, but I got it done and am really happy this is finally getting to see the light of day. I've been dying to get this footage out. More to come.

I like how much video is in this blog. It really brings it to life, especially seeing all the styles of players who are up and coming.

The Chris Dean video was great. Since it's the RCS blog, I thought I should mention that the whirring swirl stood out to me the most. Very controlled and solid.

Also been enjoying the fearless you've been pushing Justin. I was recently working on the same, and at least for me it was often very frustrating. So whenever I see you lay down a new ten combo I know how satisfied you must be.

Looking forward to shredding and hanging with all of you guys at USO!

I'm sad to hear that, it was fun meeting him and seeing him play when we performed together. But the guys around Penn State should be looking forward to him being in the area.

Thanks for the video by the way. Looking forward to the others.

I mentioned before how my left knee has always held me back. Well after a lot of conditioning it has been feeling a lot stronger than it ever has and I've had the confidence to train some combos that I've never done. I've been doing a lot of pdx whirls and tomahawks lately getting the motion down on my flip side that I've never taken the time to learn. As a result I have here a combo I'm super proud to have just hit for the first time, although it would seem I should have been hitting it for years. Stupid knee.

blurry whirl>spinning whirl rpt for the first time today. I started off every string with that combo today to make up for lost time. This is the first time I've ever gotten this combo with a ps whirl out of my flip spinning whirl.

PS. Super tired today. Crossfit kicked my butt yesterday. Looking forward to my next rested day of shred.

Nice.
I feel your pain (pun?). I stopped doing whirls altogether 8 years ago because of my knees. I can imagine how good it feels to get those tricks back. I've been thinking of trying to relearn whirls too (except on both sides for me...) Props. Also, I'll second what Ken said about the video blog, and also about the greatness of that whirring swirl.

Sunday was the first outdoor session of the year for RCS and I hope it is a sign of things to come. Everyone was on their game today, lots of people at the park and great weather. We played from 2-6 at Cal Anderson park with frozen yogurt waiting for fatigue to set in. So instead of a snow cone challenge it was a Fro Yo Challenge. Justin S was the first to hit his Challenge combo(diving clip>ripwalk>rpt). That makes him World Fro Yo Champion of the week. Also met some decent circle kickers that might be interested in learning some footbag. They even approached us already using the term footbag, kind of a nice change. Other than that here are some random highlights from the sesh.

Justin S., smear>atomsmasher>rpt, open ss mirage>tap>rpt
Reilley, Osis consistantly(trouble area solved)
Trevor, first pheonix(polo shoes, lavers stolen)
Scott, open ss whirl(first?) I think he also hit dimwalk>pdx mirage>parkwalk>pdx mirage rpt (not 100% sure if that was the combo)
Justin D., Blurry whirl>whirr>flurry, tombstone>flurry, flip tomohawk was stronger than ever
Me, diving clip>down>rpt, pheonix>pdx mirage>rpt, alpine shut down>tomohawk, mobius, osis>barfly bs

Also I thought I'd mention it here so we feel obligated. Next Sunday we are all doing a Stephen Barnes one shot. Most of us have never done one so it'll be interesting.
I like to play.
I want to play good.

I present Vid 2 of Chris's trip to Seattle. The last video came out so good, it was hard not to feel like I could keep making this vid better. I'm happy with the result but would like to hear what you guys think. This has Chris's best strings of the day and a few things from me.
I also want to mention that the last vid had my first whirring swirl on film.
Also, this vid opens with Chris showing that his show came apart. He played some of the day with his shoe like that and you can see, if you look closely, that he was playing with it like that for some strings on the last vid. Pretty amazing when you consider he was busting those string with a giant hole in his shoe. He went off to find a store, got some needle and thread and fixed it so he could play the rest of the day.
Next vid will feature Nick Landes, myself, and maybe a little Chris. He was having an off day the last time I filmed with him.

Chris and I are planning on attending the Green Cup again this year.
Enjoy the vid 8)

I've had 3 solo sessions this week.#ragesession
Concepts covered in those sessions include; Stepping, blurry, stepping, blurry and of course stepping.
So what? Soooo, I should have learned stepping long ago and it is pretty pathetic. I couldn't do stepping. Now I can. Not well, but I can. I still need another week before I can shed with them but I know what to do now and I'm not gonna stop.
Today I hit blur>dimwalk bs
Too pumped to not post about it. :)
I like to play.
I want to play good.

Today we played at Victor Steinbrueck Park for the first time since Rory Dawson visited during PAX Prime 2011. Even though we played outside last week too I would say this marks our first real "summer" session. The weather was great and we were all playing very strong. Afterward we hit the hot tub at Executive Fitness and talked about how our U.S. Open hotel better have a hot tub.

Justin Dale
very high density, particularly during the beginning of the session
alpine whirligig > gangsta party; footed

Dan Reed
phoenix > blurry whirl; first time, first try, and twice in a row
blur, bsos
couldn't finish burrito

Trevor Kokenge
diving clipper
solid form and good control

Reilley Adamson
torque > torque; first try
torque, bs
double around the world > torque
swirl; first time

Snow Cone Challenge
Dan - blur, bsos; winner
Reilley - smear > mixer/double legover, bs
