Northwest Folklife 2012 | Seattle, WA, USA | May 25-28, 2012

Post by rjadamson »

On behalf of the players here in Seattle, WA, I would like to extend an invitation to the modified.in community to attend the 41st Northwest Folklife Festival (website) held in the heart of Rain City. Northwest Folklife is held annually on Memorial Day weekend (this year it runs from Friday, May 25, through Monday, May 28) and is one of the best annual gatherings of casual kickers to be found in the country. You can actually find some YouTube footage of previous incarnations of Folklife that attracted the crews from Portland and Vancouver, BC to shred.

Folklife itself is meant to celebrate the diversity that creates the Pacific Northwest's unique culture. The festival takes place on the spacious Seattle Center grounds and attracts upwards of a mindblowing 200,000 people each year. It's a great atmosphere with several music stages and lots of food. It's easy to find jugglers and other similar hobbyists. Best of all, it's free (but you get a cool button if you donate a few dollars)!

Here are a couple pictures that hopefully capture the general atmosphere: 1, 2, 3

We're not really looking to turn this into a formal jam -- simply a great weekend for some players to come kick, hang out, film, and play some four square. Depending on the weather (and interest on these forums) I will likely take the entire weekend off of work. I don't know how many total people we can host, and we will provide a count soon.

There are several other similar festivals that take place in Seattle over the summer, but I would say Folklife is the most ideal for kicking. Depending on how things go, we might try to invite people up for those other events too.

Note: this event conflicts with Green Cup this year. Like I said, this is more of an informal gig. If you want routines, circles, and sick threes to warm up for this year's U.S. Open, I recommend checking out Green Cup!

I will update this thread with tentative attendees.

Yikes, I promised to go to Green Cup last year, and didn't. Looks like it is time to make some tough decisions.
