Had a 3.5 hour session last night. 2 hours with jere, and 1.5 solo. Had fun. Jere gave me a bunch of challenges which I somehow got... like diving dlo. I was thinking "there's no way, but i'll try it" and got it first attempt. Same with gyro grifter, ducking egg, and whirling same muted toe delay.

did a lot of consecutives and drilling basics. Hit legover x87. Thought it was 105 but i lost count somewhere.

bottled some brew yesterday. the belgian brown abbey ale will be ready in a week.

Bottled the belgian brown abbey ale today. the oak is subtle but good. Might be my best brew to date.

Also brewed a non-traditional maibock later in the evening. It's going to be more hoppy than the classic german style which focuses more on the malty notes.

Played footbag with jere. had lots of fun. got merkon>butter swirl>rpt first try. Watched an old video of myself. There were combos in it that i thought i'd never done or be able to do, and they were from 4 years ago. it was strange and a little depressing to see my footbag regression over the years... awkward lol

Played with jere last night. I've been sick for the last week so it felt like my lungs were on fire. Messed around with downtime gyro toes a lot (like wauxspin without the dex). And slurry butters... kind of an awkward downtime leg wrap refraction thing with no body rotation. also knee delays, double heel catches, sharkfin, and calf delay. bsos zoid delay, toe muted xbddy rake>pendulous osis.

Tried a 4th different lacing style with the lavers. Laced them like normal tennis shoes from the third eyelet up. I can finally pixie again now without it getting caught in the toe walls. Drilled pixies for most of the session. got pixie opp whirl>duck pdx mirage>rpt>string with bsos dimmiest. I kind of forgot about that first trick. mobius handcatch>flip mobius handcatch>rpt for 6 contacts, then with pdx torques

Watched a chilly phily 04 video i'd never seen. It has ales zelinka tearing it up with perfect form. Never realized how quiet his feet are.

edit: just got done reading the chanman's blog. He's posting videos he's recently watched. may as well post the Ales video. Lots of hilarious slo-mo yelling.

Played for a half hour during lunch break yesterday, and 45 minutes with the girlfriend after work. That makes 4 days of playing in the last week. WOOT!

I've become a juice addict.

Took awhile to figure out what this first trick was in 2009 by Tripp. Luckily there's a slo-mo at the end. CLIP NEAR FRONTSIDE ATOMSMASHER LIKE HWWWHAT!!!

Watched about an hour of vasek videos and then kicked for 2 with Jeremiah. Watching those videos helped me subconciously remember how to spin out of pdx whirls, blurry whirls, spinning whirls, stepping whirls, and tomahawks. Had a great session.

There were a lot of things that jere challenged me to which I couldn't hit strong side, but could somehow hit flipside. If you would have asked me before the session if i could do it flip, i would've probably said no. such as spin butter>vortex>pdx whirl, and vortex>blurriest which were all done flipside. flip vortex is hard and inconsistent.

tomahawk>merkon bsos and step ss whirl>tomahwk were fun. also got blurry whirl>blurry whirl>tomahawk flipside. started a run off with datw>diving whirl and started runs with both alpine blurry whirls.

Spent the weekend at Fairmont Hot Springs. It was a blast. Went on a run in the Pintler Mountain Range. Saw 3 bald eagles, about a dozen hawks, and a herd of Pronghorn Antelope. I always forget how crazy they look.

Image

Forgot to bring my running shoes and had to run in my lavers. Now the area under the calf is very tender. It was a beautiful run though. Hopefully it will ease up for tonights shred with Jeremiah.

Watched Hunger Games last night. That movie was a lot better than i expected. My fists tensed up a couple times at scenes that were hard to handle (the bee sting scene) and i got emotional a few times but reminded myself "You're a MAN!" lol.

This is really hard to see but it's an awesome combo from evan gatesman... pdx whirling swirl>step whirl>rpt

Played with Jere on monday, and had an hour long session yesterday drilling flip vortex. Started almost every run with flip vortex. it started getting pretty consistent at the end of the session. I realized that I don't lean back far enough during the trick. I used to hunch over at one point or another. Also drilled flip smoke. I think my vortexes look weird. What do you think?

Here's a drill I was practicing. Figured I'd get it on camera. It also has my first and only whirls of the session. Sorry for the quality, but it was on my photo camera.

Also pulled the only footage I took at Worlds 2007. It's one run from jorden, penske, and vasek in circles finals. They were also taken on my photo camera

Great to see footage of you!
I have a weird problem with my vortices. I don't do drifters because they really tug on my hips (really sensitive -- my first footbag injury, 8 years ago...) So when I do vortex I'm really conscious of that and restrict my range of movement by keeping the muscles tight, if that makes sense. I don't like how mine look, either, but I think yours look better than mine.

Most, people when they do vortices, let their entire leg kind of go loose in the swinging dex around the support leg, and it looks like you don't allow that loose movement as much, especially in the lower leg. And maybe moreso on the second one.

That's probably why i had a couple hours of shin splint on my flip support leg.

Bottled a maibock on monday. Here's what went into it:

6 lbs Light Dry Malt Extract
1 lb Caramunich 20 Malt
12 oz Crystal 20L Malt
12 oz Munich 10LMalt

60 min boil 1 oz Saaz hops
30 min boil 1 oz Saaz hops
20 min boil 1 oz Saaz hops
1 min boil 1 oz Saaz hops

pitched Kolsch Ale Yeast at 70 degrees F

Going to spend my tax return on more brewing equipment. A 10 gallon mash tun, a new 10 gallon stainless steel pot with spiggot, and a sparge arm. Moving on to All Grain Brewing. YEAHHHH!!!

Side>blur>park>blizzard>dimwalk>rpt>tomahawk>short string, drilled barfly>step ss clip>rpt, got some nemesii, zulu mirages and such, footed mobius>ducking pdx egg, lots of fun stuff including:

Damn, Props on Scorps> Spanishfly

I can't believe I have never met you. I have a feeling we'd have the most absurd conversation about a very absurd topic if/when we do meet. Great highlights. I am definitely going to be reading this from meow on.

No offense, but I liked the kitty bacon ride better. Kitties < Unicorns. Just my opinion. Both are sick pictures, but the kitty is still my desktop haha

Keep it up man. I wanna see some video from you sometime too, that'd be great.

Hope to meet you some day.

Sounds good Nick. i've only been to 3 tourneys since 2007 (2 vegas and the last us open), but am planning on spending a week in boston to see one of my sisters this summer... see you there? Probably no events this year.

Been pretty busy outside lately. Played footbag for an hour outside on Sunday. I struggled bc of the 3 hours playing the day before. Mostly tiltless and bops.

Went on a 5 hour hike Monday. It was awesome. My girlfriend and her dog were both hobbling around the next day. Yay strong footbag legs :P

A tree fell in our yard last week, so I spent yesterday taking an axe to it for fire wood (couldn't get hold of a chainsaw). My left hand still hurts to move my fingers, but the fire pit will be happy this summer.

EDIT: the hops used in the maibock recipe were Citra hops, not saaz. Looked in the freezer and I have about an ounce of centennial, an ounce of saaz, and a 1/4 ounce of citra. Might have to throw together a mild IPA sometime this week. Going to teach my girlfriend how to do a stout tomorrow, sio might use the centennial for bittering hops

Walked the girlfriend through making a peanut butter stout. She did everything but the heavy lifting. Should come out to 10-12%. It's probably going to turn into a porter

1 lb crystal 60 malt
12 oz chocolate malt
8 oz roasted malt
4 oz black malt
6 lbs dark dme
3 lbs freshly ground peanut butter
4 oz fuggle hops
british ale yeast
