My mom's visiting.
We did a day of geocaching. Great fun. But the walk was killer. Over 6km. I did X Stretch when we got back since the walk in combination with my heavy hack session yesterday left me pretty stiff. My mom was super impressed with my plough pose. Anyway, she brought my footbag VHS tapes from Winnipeg (cue Tom K), and I'm surprised by all the ones about which I completely forgot! Oh! Also, my little brother in Hong Kong finally joined our Minecraft server, but I keep missing him when he's online. And my older brother rendered a model of our world as it's been expored thus far. Oh, my mom also brought my custom-made suits from China that my older brother had made for me. I put 20+ hours of research into customizing them exactly as I want. And then my brother and his girlfriend had to translate it all into Mandarin and have it fitted without me there. Kinda complex and stressful. But the end result is really nice. Both are half-lined in both jacket and trouser. A navy suit with a primary yellow lining (gorgeous) and a charcoal gray with a purple lining. Secret pockets. Working buttons on sleeve and lapel. 100% wool -- all that good stuff. The lining colours come through in the pockets ever so slightly too -- a nice touch. I also got 5 essential 100% cotton dress shirts customized variously with French and double-button notched barrel cuffs (2 of one, 3 of the other), wide collars, box pleats, etc. All very nice. Everything for $350 or so! I'm steaming them in the shower now. On my todo list: get a garment steamer. Now I just need occasion to dress up...

Those suits sound amazing. As long as you're the same size you will look amazing. suits are awesome! Don't under estimate them, great garments increase your worth.

Few years ago when Yacine came in Montreal, he gave me all his VHS tape collection from like 98 to 2004. Looks like he had most of them .

I'm at my aunt's cottage a few hours north of Oshawa. We were surprised we had reception. Went to the beach. Also paddle boated and stuff. Then wanted to play hack. No flat areas, so did some short combos and tricks with scenery. Some new tricks:
-flip atomic drifter
-flip torch-r-rack (first try??)

Anything else? Hit the other sides too for video. Also superflies both sides. All on dirt and grass. Good side atomic drifter is bad drifter -- hurts hip a lot! Tried flip bladerunner. Close, but flip atomic and flip eggbeater for that one. Whew. Superflies felt nice on soft ground! I hit superfly > handcatch > other side (second time ever flip superfly? Or third?)

Gonna go make smores.

I had 2 assignments due before I even had the first class, just in one course!
Anyway, here's that promised video from my cottage weekend. It was just, like, 20 minutes, but a couple new tricks: flip atomic drifter and flip torch-r-rack.

Oh yeah, I got my lappy in the mail yesterday. I actually edited this on it, and it was amazing! No jitters in preview while editing! Amazing. I will def use this in future. Although I still plan to reformat my desky. I thought I was going to say something else, but I guess not. One thing I wish I had time to do is make a video that is kind of an explanation of hack tricks. I was checking my own videos on my Facebook and wondering what non-footbaggers would think. I came to the conclusion that it would be neat to give them the opportunity to understand the complexities of hack if they had the inclination. So, a video breaking down every component, dexes, stalls, et, putting them together and progressing to harder tricks, with slow-mo and text on the screen to explain and whatnot. I don't think I'll have time, but I'd love to do that at some point. I'm also dying to play at all. Hopefully tomorrow as stuff is dying down for a couple days, though I have lots to catch up on.

Anyway, off to class!

I had my first session today since school started.
I played with Zach on campus. It was pretty dead, but I think we had some pictures taken of us by a group who was doing a wedding party photo shoot. They joined us a little too. It was a kinda sucky session since we were both rusty, but I had some highlights:
-pigbeater BSOS (first try -- flip is a trick I've done only a handful of times ever. And this is probably the third-ish time I've ever BSOSed it? Zach was trying one side so I had to try.)
-bedwetter > eggbeater BSOS and rev whirlygig > spinning clip [repeat]
-blurriest > ripwalk > ripwalk > blurriest > ripwalk > blurry whip > ripwalk > ripwalk > blurry whip > ripwalk > rev whirlygig (or something)

Yeah, I dunno. I didn't really go out of my comfort zone for this session. It ended early too 'cause he was having some knee pain. It probably was less than an hour? Anyway, it was nice to both play, to get out, and to see a friend. Now back to school work... Library school is pretty fun. We're all super nerdy about things like cataloguing. Oh man is that fun.

School is way busy. I have kind of my first major projects in every course due all back-to-back this coming week. I've got an essay on the information society due Wednesday, a cataloging assignment due Thursday, a search and database assignment due Friday, a reading response due Friday, and then a group reference question assignment due on Monday. Thankfully we mostly pumped out the group project yesterday, but that was at the expense of working on the other things that are more pressing. The first one is the most killer. I have a ton of reading to do still and they are dense-as-all-get-out, but it's looking like my additional readings are a lot shorter, easier to digest, and more fun, thank god. This one course is killer 'cause I don't understand a thing. (The others are fun.) We've been talking a lot about economics of information and my brother who's doing a PhD in economics right now said that some of the stuff doesn't even make sense. So yeah.

Anyway, I came here because I found out that I think the library at which I work might lend out a VHS > digital format (unsure which format) converter. So, yay! When I'm less busy I can try that out with the box of hack tapes my mom brought me from home this summer. Work is kinda neat. I played with e-readers last day -- Kindle and Kobo. I think I'll try a Sony reader next shift. I also tried to fix an RSS feed problem for the library's website, but I'd never worked on RSS, never used a Mac (the computer hosting the files and site), and didn't know how to test the code I was playing with in real time (I figured that out much later, but it still didn't seem to point out the problems...)

Quick break between finishing my research finally, and either starting my outline or reading over the notes I took over the past few days. Prolly the latter. Hit some new tricks (I think?), barefoot:
-pixie same eggbeater [both sides] (if I've hit them, it was prolly like 8 years ago)
-pixie double switchover [both sides]

The first 3 tricks happened without much incident, but it took me, like 5 minutes to hit the flip pixie double switch. Whenever I play next I need to work on my flip pixie.


Oh, also, post-P90X I can do pullups now! I had to use a chair all throughout P90X, and before that I think I could do chinups, but only down to, like, a 45-degree angle or something. So now I can do 5-ish from a straight-arm hanging start and back down. Also, I did a 1-arm pullup from a straight-arm hanging start I'm thinking that I might do, like, 10 minutes of tiltless interspersed with pull-ups as a way to stay in shape during school. I haven't had a chance to try 10-minute trainer yet, and starting something new and trying to acclimate isn't appealing at a time when I'm so busy.

Managed to get ahead on schoolwork over the weekend. That was stressful. So I was able to get in, likely, one last outdoor session of the season. It was surprisingly nice out based on how cold it's been lately. Also, it's my 30th birthday tomorrow, so this will count as my birthday session Although I only just realized that now... I wish I had tried something, like, 30 blurry whips or something, a la Ken's 30th birthday accomplishments. I thought I'd be more out of practice, so I was able to hit some neat things. hopefully if I can manage a session per month until Christmas I will be able to prevent losing everything I developed over the summer. Here are some highlights:
-stepping whip x3 > blurry whip x3 [repeat]

...Actually... I don't remember. I almost had a bunch of BSOS stuff again. Like I knew I could, but I wanted to move onto other things. Some almost BSOSes:
-atomic whip > blurriest > blurry whip > ps whip
-double spinning clipper > ps whip
-mobius > blurry whip

I think I did too much whippy stuff and not enough DLOs and eggbeaters. But I was kinda just happy that I was able to hit some harder tricks and links. Video later. And then back to work. (And then I get to open presents and midnight ) I should get a birthday muffin or something


Oh yeah, I also remember a couple more tricks that I have to hit flipside in the future: enterrage and entre. Maybe I've done enterrage before?
