Reilley and I did have some discussion about that, and I'd be interested to hear what other people think. The way I look at it is, if I were judging shred 30, would I count the moves as they are? There are quite a few records with "bad form" but not many that I think are actually not hit. I think the record should be the largest number of a move hit, and only if the form is so bad that you have to say that didn't hit that trick should it not count. I am fairly concerned about those froggy spins, but I'm also aware that my opinions on move cleanliness are at the far end of the spectrum, so I've been compensating that with some of the other records and just posting them adding them without comment, to see if others would complain or not.

Well.....I do agree that it doesnt have to be perfect form but it has to be a clean hit.....frigid set barfly is not scorpions tail though.... One funny fact.....the first time I was exposed to how players were picky about cleanliness was from you Jeremy. :) I think I hit ducking marius and you were discussing the amount of scoop and pull on the osis....Now, after years ....I get it . Form is crucial but a trick can still be hit and potentially be the top record even if it looks horrible.....at one time I hit 40 ripwalk and every other one looked horrible. ....., but if one was pulled at all...I feel like it should kill the count at that point..... I love scorpions tail and have spent time trying to clean spins (which I still have to focus to make clean) and spent time trying to hit clean barflys.....the reason im saying this is that i honestly feel that I could probably beat the froggy scorpions tail record....but if the record was set hitting it correctly ....I would be more inclined to clean up my tricks and see how many I could hit with good technique rather than try to hit ten froggy scorpions tail....

I'm glad to hear about my influence about cleanliness! Next I'll have to get onto you about grammar ;)

Anyway while waiting for other people's views on the Scorpion Tail record, I had a great idea. In order to encourage records, we should have a series of "featured" records where we encourage everybody to try to set/beat one particular record within a specific time. I thought maybe I'd commission a bunch of trophy bags or something on the cheap, and offer them as prizes.

I think the amount of pull on those spins is equal to pulling a step. The thing is, when a step is pulled you can see it NOT being dexed.
With a spin, it is much harder to see the point of uncleanliness.
That said, I do not think this record should be counted either.

im gonna get on some of these once i heal up.

Ken's records added. Toe gyro mirage was unexpected, but impressive! I've also removed Andrey Romanov's challenging scorpion's tail record from the list based on feedback.

I've been thinking about this too, and had a similar idea. This could be a strong incentive for people to help fill in holes in the list. Hopefully we can find a way to both get records filled in quickly while also encouraging people to do more than just break placeholders in the short term.

I took a day trip with Justin Dale to Portland a week or so ago. Nick Landes hit 51 drifters first try -- stopping only so he could get back to shredding with everyone else. Nate Linscott has the footage (hopefully), and I'll try to get that added.

I think I might be ready to implement a notes column that would replace the shoes column. Blurbs like "cleanliness disputed" or "socks" could be added without warping the rows from too much text. An alternative would be to keep such notes in the completely unused discussion page, and to simply mark disputed/unclean records with an asterisk (*). We could denote at the top of the page that all such records are marked accordingly, and that more information can be found on the discussion page. That would give us far more text real estate to work with.

I think definitely go ahead with the notes section. You could even just rename the shoes column and edit any entries as necessary. It shouldn't be a problem to leave in the shoes used where listed, but if you wanted to delete that, I'm fine with that! I wouldn't worry too much about warping rows - I think they get taller rather than wider if you write too much. I'm not sure what sets width. I'm not in favour of using the discussion page to store actual information - that should just be for actual discussion about the page (eg. stuff like this post could go there).

Filling gaps is a good idea too. We should write down a list of all the tricks people think should have records but don't. I don't think it's necessary to have a comprehensive list of every trick where it's possible to do consecutives (although I guess people are welcome to put forward any trick), but we should at least aim to have records for common or popular moves. Even just listing them here might encourage people to try and set those records.

Part of why I was thinking the discussion page would be a good idea is because I do later on intend to create another column with the new trick names. I have my monitor resolution set to 1900x1200 and have no problems viewing the entire width of the record list, but I don't want stretch it to the point where smaller resolutions have to scroll. I also want to avoid having huge rows from gratuitous notes. If we can ultimately fit all of the columns we want without that happening I am not so concerned.

Thanks Ken. I'm a bit concerned in that video that mirages number 27-29 is out of the vid (and I think some later ones too). While I have no doubt you're hitting the move, I'm a little cautious about putting it up. I think there is another trick where the last few are out of frame and we didn't count them. I'd lean towards applying that rule all the time though. In this case I think it's no big deal, but better to have a discussion now than wait until the same thing comes up on a record that is a big deal.

I'll break it strongside, in frame, next time i play. Probably a good policy to keep it strict.

I think you forgot to include the video link, Brian. I'd look for it myself, but I'm at work.

Feel free to count it as less, since I get off camera.
Going through old discussion in this thread, I came away with the conclusion that:

1. Eclipse was considered common/legit enough to be included
2. Eclipse is hard to transcribe in Job's notation.

I know that Job's was used on the old record list Lon Smith maintained, but I assumed that was to explain the tricks to readers, since there was no video. Given that this is a video record list, I don't see the need to use Job's at all, since you can actually see the trick in question. Even if job's is used on this list, is that enough to exclude a record, just because it can't be transcribed in that one box?

On a related note, if eclipse is added back to the list, I'll make a point to break my old record on video, and in HD.

I thought it would be fun to point this out:
The record for the most consecutive eclipses completed with a footbag is 26 and was set by Alex Zerbe (USA) on the set of L'Ete De Tous Les Records, Biscarrosse, France on 30 June 2004.

I think 17 is my record too. 26 seems like a lot, but if my back ever heals I will break that record. Inspiration to stretch.

I think my record is 24? But I'm with Ian, now's as good a time as any to break it, and break it on HD video.

All records added. I think earlier I initially accepted and then rejected eclipses because they're are the kind of uncommon party trick move I was trying to avoid putting on this list, but there are no rules about what can go on now. The page is open for anybody to put up any record they want. If there are records put up that people don't like, there can be debate here, and my opinion isn't worth any more than anybody else's. Regarding the Job's notation; I just put it as "eclipse" :P I do the same thing with "osis" and think that's probably best in general. Some tricks are more accurately described without true Job's notation (rake, osis, swirl, and now eclipse as some examples).
