Kom's footblog

Post by Kom »

Hey Modified!

Since I ordered my Lavers, and a new Ivanbag, I decided to start a footblog detailing my progress.

In this first post I will list all the moves I can do, and will update the list periodically, but will put updates(likely weekly), in their own posts with more details.

Current Moves
Basic Kicks
Toe Stall BSOS
Inside Stall BS(I think this is because I'm still wearing Puma Clydes)
ATW BS(In>out)
5/21/13(1 week after beginning footbag)
We all make choices. But in the end, our choices make us.

Congrats on starting a footblog. How did you get into footbag? Do you play solo? Have you been to any tournaments? It can be fun to kick off your blog with a snapshot of where you are in life as well as in your game, so when you go back and read it years later you can see how far you've come.

Whoo! I saw a new post on modified and was pretty excited - then I saw my bag as your avatar and I almost fell out of my chair!
Welcome to foot-blogging. Looking good with bothsidedness on all of your tricks, I find this is key when you are starting out and will make hitting hard tricks down the road much easier. Keep kickin!

I believe I first got interested after watching Nick Landes 2010 Worlds Semi-Final routine(the one that beat even Vasek and Damian). I learned more about it for a while and decided that I wanted to start. This was about a year and a half ago, and I was broke as shit then, so I couldn't really afford a pair of Lavers, but I did buy a Dragonfly Footbag(I can't remember why I chose them specifically). I ended up losing heart after a while because I couldn't do any tricks, and the knee pain was absolutely killing me. I started up again last week after finding my old footbag, and deciding that I was going to practice and become as skilled as I possibly could at it.

So, I've been practicing 2-3 hours a day while also browsing modified and researching the best ways to go about fixing big problems I might find myself facing. I've learned that I really need to stretch my joints beforehand, which has all but completely erased any pain I was having. As a result, I feel I've really progressed so far, seeing that when I first tried footbag, I had a lot of trouble even doing basic kicks. Now I am pretty good at kicking and decent at stalls(especially toe kicks and stalls for some reason, maybe it's because these Puma's have a nice toebox but a crappy instep?), and am very excited to get my Laver's and Ivan's bag, which should both be here by the weekend(at least I hope so.)

To answer the other questions, I live in a small-ish town about an hour outside of Austin, so I am pretty much totally solo seeing as the Austin Footbag Club website is completely gone, and I've only seen a very few number of people that live in Texas, much less near me.

And no, I haven't been to any tournaments, but I hope to save up some cash and go to either Worlds or USO next year.

Quick update: I got my Lavers and Ivanbag yesterday!
Image
Only modded the toe stitching as I couldn't seem to find any tutorials for the rest of it.

In other news, I've been practicing the basics and ATW this week. But I'm having issues with ATW.
No matter what I do, I can't seem to get it to set straight up. I also can't get it to stay under me so the dex is easier.

I got my first string though, ATW>toe>op toe

Any tips for Modding and ATW would be very helpful!

Ahhh... Ivan has told me about you... Ivan was my room mate at PSU last year and I taught him how to stitch... He's WAY better than me now haha. He'll be better at footbag than me soon, if he keeps practicing! But anyway, welcome! You should try to find Ben Benulis on facebook. I think he lives in Austin TX. He's good, you could learn a lot from him. Keep practicing man, I look forward to keeping up with your blog and your progress. Hope to shred with you some day!

I am trying to learn Clipper before I get any farther into dexing moves, so do you have any advice for getting better ankle crank or what the best foot position for Clipper is?

I take that back, I think I figured it out.

My crank still sucks, but if I bend deep enough in the support leg, I can manage to do it.

Now I just need to get that muscle built up so I can set it properly!
