Anyway, I guess my joke was too cryptic in my last post. How about now?

Hahaha wow. I totally missed it the first time around. Was too excited about the possibility of you visiting us to really notice the humor (not too cryptic, I just haven't been getting the sleep I need to function normally this week)

Also, I don't know why people worry about getting the top post in a page - I am honored to have Ken be the top post on page 6 of my footblog!

Had a session at Old Main right after I came back from the hike. I thought I was gonna be pretty tired but I guess I am getting more in shape. Kicked for 2 hours, didn't hit anything of note except for
 blurriest bs
 ducking pdx miraging stallberger
 stepping far guay bs
Yeah, that and I footed atomic double down on both sides. Just kinda fooled around, didn't really put much thought into today's session. Just enjoyed the wonderful weather and had a good time kicking with club members. Got milkshakes after the session and some other food. Now I am at home and feeling kinda lonely. Don't know why, but I am. Maybe I need a GF... but my last few experiences just suggest that it will just end up being a massive time commitment (and ultimately a waste) and I don't really have much time on my hands as it is. Kinda conflicted :| . W/e, you guys aren't really interested in that here anyway as this is a footbag forum. I guess I will just finish my paper and continue building my bike.

Shred on modified, and thanks for taking the time to read my footblog. Seriously. It's nice to have people care enough in this big world to read what some random kid on the internet rambles on about. If you do read my footblog and haven't posted in it or haven't posted recently, just add a post saying hi or something - don't be shy, I will only be grateful. :)
That was an awesome looking scenery. We have to go hiking together sometimes man. I never hiked before. May be it's about time I jump in!
Dude, I know this is gonna sound creepy as f!ck, but if you feel lonely, invite me over. We'll have some drinks (probably Coca Cola or so) and talk everything you wanna talk: Spitfires, F-16, biology, footbag, freestyle football, comics, then we'll do a short 30 min sess. That should cheer you up!

Peace man!

Yes indeed! It was a strange weekend for me... I had spent the five days leading up to to it doing massive amounts of HW and studying to have a free weekend. In the end, I was just exhausted and a bit subdued. Regardless, kicking with Jon is always a treat because he is so fun to kick with (and to hang out in general). Friday I had a solid session of tiltless runs. Saturday I had to work, but I kicked for 2 hours before that and had a really enjoyable outdoor session, possibly one of the last for the year. Saturday was the homecoming football game and it was a crazy game that went to 4 overtimes (I watched the entire thing at work). We were completely swamped and I had barely enough energy to ride my bike home, plop into a chair and sit. I ended up making a footbag for Jon. By the time Sunday's session rolled around, I was really feeling it. A combination of not enough sleep, tired legs, and a generally pessimistic outlook kinda made that day a bit bland for me. I ended up drilling osis the entire time while everyone else kicked - sometimes I just need time alone, and it really sucked that it happened while such a cool player was visiting.

... but back to drilling osis. I don't know what changed in my mind, but something just said "screw it, lets get serious and own this trick". I stood at a T intersection between two lines on the squash court and practiced my footwork and turning on osis, remembering to reset my feet to the T after every attempt. I also went straight to freezing my osis - I had been practicing just hitting it normally the past year or so and it wasn't getting me anywhere. The combination of the improved footwork and the freezes seriously improved my osis that session.

:footbag: October 16th, 2013. A day that I will forever remember as the osis breakthrough. :footbag:
Wednesday's session.

Today we only had 5 people at the session - as much as I love our large sessions, there is just something about small sessions that drives me to get better and push my limits. I started out really slowly and remember commenting how the session was very zen like and everyone was hitting slow and controlled tricks. Soon that changed to people trying big tricks, but I didn't hit anything too spectacular. Eventually people had to leave and the session was down to me and Ryan. I made it my goal to hit as many osis in my runs as possible. Within two runs, it suddenly clicked. Instead of being scared to go to osis, I would get excited to hit the next one, they were so consistent. They worked so well with butterflies and infinities and pdx stuff. Every string became fun and connected. Osis was the missing link that was keeping me from enjoying my runs and finding a good rhythm. Now it was here and I was hitting runs that a few weeks back I had told myself were impossible. Even osis > osis felt so good. Everything just flowed into the next trick. Some highlights:

 pixie ss pickup, pixie muted ss pickup
 dimwalk > blurriest
 osis > osis x 12 (every osis was frozen for at least a second)
 BOP x 6
 infinity > osis > osis rpt
 ripwalk > osis rpt bs
 osis > ducking clipper bs
 ss butterfly > osis > ss pickup rpt
 osis > blizzard rpt bsos
 atomic osis > blizzard bs
 kneebump > ss inside stall > far osis > ss pickup rpt

Halfway through the session I realized that this was a monumental session and really pushed hard. I was rewarded with so much progress. So much happiness. So much fulfillment. Osis is still not as reliable as I need it, but this breakthrough might have removed it from my blacklist of run ending tricks. Nick Polini, thanks a lot for all of the tips and help with osis over the past two years. I know I struggled hard with that trick and ignored your advice sometimes, but I just had to figure out this trick by hitting it 1-2 thousand times myself. In the two weeks before I see you at Halloween, I intend to get good at osis. Then it's on to pixies. So long for now.

Props on the osis progress. It's such a hard, but important trick/concept. Putting the time into it now will definitely pay off.

Sorry I couldn't visit during the shutdown. None of it worked out the way I expected/hoped.

Thanks Ken! I am glad other people think it is difficult - it has been looming large over my game for close to two years now.

Don't worry about visiting us - I am sure you will get the chance to sometime in the future!

Gonna be kicking tomorrow. Got my new bike assembled. On top of schoolwork for once. Things are looking up at the moment.

I like that idea of using the T on the squash court as a good part to focus. Osis is something that looks really simple, but it's hard to get consistently. I also like that 5 people turning up in the middle of the week is a "small" session...

The T was Nick's idea and it works really well when I am struggling with osis - it assures the proper foot positioning and 90 degree pivot, without which I can't hit osis at all. When I do it enough using the T, my body just remembers the motion and the amount of rotation and I can hit them again.

About the 5 people being a session... we at PSU are spoiled. Our usual sessions have 10-11 people twice or three times a week. Its essentially a mini jam every time we kick :)

So today I had one fear going into the session - I would not be able to hit a single osis. (I had this happen a few times when I thought I had a breakthrough before and it just gutted me every time)

Thankfully that was not the case, so that was that. It was a good session. I spent my entire time kicking in a circle with newer players, teaching basics. Two of the new guys showed potential and seemed hooked - will see whether they stick to it, one of them already has lavers so that's cool - reminds me a lot of me when I came in, but has a habit of doing toe sets to the outside of his knee which will be tough to break. Didn't hit much of interest during the actual session, just some lengthy runs with mixed tiltless/guiltless stuff, mostly just stuff to keep the newer players interested and demoing a wide variety of easy tricks for them to hit.

After about two hours, just about everyone had left and it was just me and Marc. I have made it a habit to not go too hard during sessions with lots of people and then taking my shirt off and drilling like crazy after everyone leaves. I did it all week with osis and it has been paying off in huge chunks. Anyways, more osis drilling, as well as a good dose of stepping.

 Atomsmasher > ss butterfly > blurriest (one side, oh well)
 parkwalk > sidewalk > ripwalk BS
 ripwalk x 5
 ripwalk > blur > ss butterfly rpt
 ripwalk > osis > infinity rpt
 osis x 13 (all frozen)
 shmoe > butterfly rpt
 ss butterly > osis > pdx illusion rpt
 infinity x 23
 toe massacre first try
 fusion > ripwalk (one side only)

Yeah. Osis didn't go away. Stepping and clipper seems to have gotten easier as well. My drilling after sessions is doing me a lot of good and I am not feeling tired at all after sessions which is weird (and absolutely amazing). A week ago I made a goal to get as good as possible before our Halloween minijam and I am feeling like I am improving with every session. Gonna get a haircut tomorrow morning, then hike/run mt nittany with ryan and khoa, have another session around 2:30 and work from 5:00-10:00. Not quite guiltless yet, but I am noticing that a lot of my drills are starting to get there, so I can only assume my circle shred will follow in the next month or so. As cool it is to think about going guiltless, I am really enjoying my game at the moment and could care less how soon I hit that imaginary benchmark. Later Modified!

Had another session today, mostly just drilling stuff...
 ripwalk btb almost at will midstring
 ripwalk > blizzard > ss butterfly rpt
 pdx mirage > legbeater BS
 pdx mirage > atomsmasher BS
 lots of illusions
 pogo muted pickup BSOS
 lots of osis > osis
 drilled flip atomics - still not happy with them but there are improvements
 legbeater > blur BSOS
 a few drifters mixed in there

overall a decent session, solidifying certain sets and tricks. Really started paying attention to my posture for stepping sets and saw an immediate improvement so I will have to keep working on that. Session again tomorrow, hope more people from the club show up to drill. Kinda want to get good before everyone comes for Halloween.

Legbeater> Blur bsos really stuck out to me. So tight dude. You're killing it. "Kinda want to get good before everyone comes for Halloween." I like that quote. Keep it up and you'll be there. Cant believe you are writing these kinds of highlights now. Right now would be a cool moment to look at your very first post and see how far you've come already. To be honest... you're where I was 2 years ago. Minus some spins and stuff, you're there. Keep it up. You're making me proud to say I taught you things... I am also trying to get good for halloween ;) push the club to do the same.

Well, had another session today. Starting to like my resurgence a lot...

Session started with a lengthy warmup as I had played a good bit of foursquare last night and consumed an obnoxious amount of alcohol during/after. It was a fun night. I did drink a lot of water as well, but I was definitely confused when I woke up and didn't feel like shit. Regardless, I went to the session feeling lethargic and it took me a good 30 minutes of inside kicks, toe kicks, toe stalls and inside stalls and then about 5 minutes of stretching to really get warmed up. Then I drilled osis and ripwalks with April while she worked on clippers and everyone else had a circle going. Then I joined the circle and stayed in it for the next hour and a half. Then, one by one everyone left and I was left alone to drill. Even though my legs were a bit sluggish, I went as hard as I could today. Some highlights:

 Fog BS!
 Ripwalk x 9 (with emphasis on not stooping over them)
 Omlette > ss butterfly > stepping far butterfly swirl! (first time I have ever hit that trick)
 Osis > osis x 10 (yeah, I get tired around 10)
 30+ run with 8 ripwalks, 4 blurs and atom>atom
 lot of bop runs with tiltless stuff
 Infinity x 26 (it was at the end of the session, and I fought for every one of those infinities)

 Inhaled a 16" loaded Philly Cheesestake after the session
 I deserved that ^^^

Gonna take a break and kick again on Wednesday. My legs are starting to feel flat again, not much spring left after all of these 2.5+ hour sessions and drilling. Feeling great about where my game is going, hope to kinda ease off the accelerator for a bit and solidify all of the new stuff I have been hitting recently. The best thing is that nothing hurts when I kick. Lastly, I think the best time to drill stuff is at the end of a session when your legs are starting to feel tired. The extra concentration that you need to hit the tricks helps build muscle memory. It also proves to your mind that if you can hit these tricks with tired legs, you can hit them 20-30 contacts into a string (kinda reminds me of the 5 minute runs I used to do at the end of soccer practices) So long modified. I promise I will drill pixies soon. Then we will really have some fun!

Thanks man! I was hoping you would stop by and post (It gets kinda lonely around here with just me and Nick  )
Fog was one of the goals I had when I first started playing and saw Nathan hitting it so its nice to finally be able to say that I can hit that trick. I would love to drill it right now, and even though my legs feel great, I think I need at least one day off from kicking - might do some osis practice tomorrow though.

This is just for my personal record: Told Kat that she would hit fog in about 2 years. She said she would hit it in the next year. I said that I would buy her a gallon of ice cream if she hit it on one side, and a day's worth of food if it was on both sides in that time frame. This will not be add hunting, but a methodical build up to a trick. The timer has started. This will be interesting.
