Re: Detroit David's Footblog
Damn, scared me for a second haha Yeah, I had a similar sort of reaction to Lavers at first. I had been using Quantums (first shred shoe) and they were ridiculously light. Then I got Lavers and went into my first session :/ Weird. No likey. Then I just kept playing in them and learned to LOVE them. Best shoe for shredding so far. Once you mod them and play in them more to wear the soles down just a bit, they'll become choice. Right off the bat, they are stiff and they are a tad clunky. A few sessions will fix that.
My guess is that your experience was so dramatic because you have been using slip-ons and they weigh absolutely nada, compared to Lavers. You will get used to them. Just keep playing in them and you'll grow attached to them. Glad you do like them after all. The clippers are going to be WAY better than your slip-ons.

Welp here they are. Figured I'd upload before I start my session. Laced up pretty nicely (looks better on my feet), still not modified yet. The bag there makes my feet look tiny lol

Gonna go kick now. woop woop

Eeeenjooy! Those Lavers are gonna get a special place in your heart.
Re: Detroit David's Footblog
So I was at the Road Show, a local shop that sells stoner goods. I was there picking up some candles, and while waiting in line, my friend points out that the kid behind me was "hacking." I turn around and he's kicking around a Dirtbag. I got kind of excited then pulled out my bag to show off. He was absolutely amazed. He asked me to do it again so he could film me. Then I explained to him a little more about footbag and he seemed genuinely interested. I mentioned modified, and I hope I can make our numbers grow by one. Always fun.

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
Nice man, great job getting one more person to see footbag. Always try to offer to teach people who are interested. It's always a plus if they already hack, too. That's great you gave him the modified website though. Hopefully this kid finds us.
Re: Detroit David's Footblog
So my session with Zach and Anton didn't happen today due to scheduling issues, so we rescheduled for Saturday, but Saturday will not be near as nice as today, and possibly quite wet, so I'm looking for a good indoor place to play that's not a Rec Center (the one near my place is stupid with rentals and the likes) or a school (it's a saturday, there will be no open gyms). Any ideas?
Update:
Well since I couldn't kick with them today, I wasn't going to waste my day off sitting around. I had a very fruitful, intense session. Nothing of particular interest happened, no new tricks or anything, but my overall play improved a bit, and I drilled my Flipside Clippers. i'm what Nick Polini would call a "shit-footer" when it comes to my Clippers. They need work, but I hit a few consecutive, which I've never been able to do FS. So that's cool. I can do most of the dexes with Clipper based tricks on my Flip, but the actual sets/landings just aren't there. I think once my Flippy Clippys improve, I'll be a way more balanced player. Lavers are helping immensely. Thank you footbag community for convincing me to get some.

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
Well school got called off today due to some heavy snow (in the middle of March, what the fuck) and I was pretty stoked to be able to kick today. So I woke up a bit, then I laced up and got to it. Unfortunately, my legs were not in the same mood my head was. I was really excited to kick, but my legs just didn't seem to want to lift how they were supposed to. I didn't hit one DATW the whole time (which granted was only like 45 minutes, half the time of my normal decent solo sessions). Normally I hit DATW around 2/5 of the time. My legs were just turning into jelly, I don't understand. Like I'm not sore, just weak feeling.
On a brighter note, I hit Mirage > Pickup > Mirage > Pickup > Illusion > Legover > Illusion > Legover (the one I mentioned previously that I was drilling) cleaner than I ever had before, so that's cool. Next day off work and school isn't until Saturday, three days from now, so I might try to kick again later. If not, then Saturday, whether or not I can kick with Zach and Anton.

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
Saturday (tomorrow), finally gonna kick with some people who are above my level. This time its pretty much guaranteed: none of us work and we found a nice free indoor skatepark. Gonna ask anton to bring his GoPro (under suggestion of mr. Polini) maybe get some cool footage. Until then its just work for me

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
Bro, have a memorable sesh today. The first time I ever got to see footbag live was a day I'll never forget. I After a few years of doing footbag solo, I finally got to see footbag happen in front of my face. You and I will share the experience of the first time seeing actual freestyle footbag live will be Zach Jahner...(Yours will be better because Anton is going to be there too!) Here is a tidbit of what I saw:

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
The session with Zach and Anton went well, if I do say so myself. I got to see some crazy stuff I'd never seen in person. Shredding with them made me want to play harder, I think that's probably the best part of playing with other people. Thanks to some urging and tips from them, I hit a few tricks I'd never landed before (Toe Whirl, pdx Illusion, Eggbeater). Both great guys, great help, can't wait for the next time I can kick with them.

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
Just messaged brian bear, commissioning myself a pokebag. I feel bad because ive been bombarding him with questions and kept changing my mind but this is it. So stoked for my pokebag.

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
Having a pokèbag is great for footbag tricks because you gotta catch 'em all.
Re: Detroit David's Footblog
I realized during my session with Zach and Anton just how bad my flip Clippers were. I mean, I always knew they were bad, but never realized they were that bad. I was lucky to land one, let alone a Butterfly or something. I could land them, but it was almost always a lucky catch. So I've been drilling them more than anything else, and I beat my record for consecutive flip Clippers. It was only 5, but 5 is better than 1.5, so I'm super stoked. With this newfound control of my left side, I even started hitting flip pdx Mirage. I can't quite hit Bubba, Whirl, or pdx Illusion from there, but it's definitely a start. I also need to drill my left ATWs. I can hit out to in fairly often, but in to out, almost never. My flip Legovers, absolutely fine, ATWs, nope. I didn't think I'd need to drill them that hard until I realized any pixie move from my left would need that. Also hit a couple more Eggplants or Eggbeaters (I'm pretty sure Eggplant, so ignore the Eggbeater from my previous post). Might have landed a couple sketchy Pixie Legovers (Toe > same in >> op out > same toe?) I know I tried em, and got close, but If I landed it, it wasn't anything clean. Landed more pdx Illusions as well, just an overall good session for me. Mostly excited about those clippers. puts me on a good track towards Osis and Drifter.

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
Just had a pre-work minisession and hit a couple new things. Today i got that pixie legover (im pretty sure) and a double dexing legover. Gotta keep drilling that flip, its so far behind. But i did increase my flip clipper record by one so thats cool. Take the little wins.

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
Had another session with Zach and Anton. Wasn't quite as progressive for me as the first but I did hit a couple more tricks (Pdx illusion, pdx Mirage BSOS) and my toe whirl is cleaning up nicely. Gonna keep drilling that flip Clipper, hope I can improve that before too long. Gonna start nailing those flip Whirls before too long, I promise you guys.

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
Had a good solo session today.I needed one because my work schedule is screwing me for the rest of the week. I hit FS pdx illusion, which I don't think I've hit before but I could be wrong. I've also been nailing Strong Eggplants, and i can tell that flip isn't far off. Came as close as I've ever come (though still not exactly) to hitting a pixie mirage. My flip ATWs improved a bit. The only thing that hasn't progressed for me at all is my Flip Whirl. Like I can drill clipper near Pickup all day but for some reason the whirl just isn't happening.
I'm not entirely sure, but I also think I may have been hitting Symp Mirage. Its not that I don't understand what it is, I'm just not sure if what I was doing counts.
How I imagine Symp Mirage: Bag on right toe, hovering above ground. Hop off support leg, thus popping the bag into the air, and cleanly dex the bag in to out with that first hop then land on the toe you set from, never letting it touch the ground.
What I did: Bag on right toe, hop off support leg, thus popping the bag into the air. However instead of using that first hop to dex, I quickly plant my support leg then hop again. This hop sort of dexes the bag, but it also kinda pops me in front of the bag, so it ends in a weird little rake thing. My setting foot still never touches the ground though...
Does that count? What is that?

Re: Detroit David's Footblog
That is indeed a symposium mirage. Jeremy taught me that you can cheat a little by hoping to the side like that, THEN dexing the mirage.
Congrats on unlocking a new 3add AND your first symposium trick! Try it from near toe, from clipper, from other clipper, bsos it, love it, enjoy it!
"Hoping to the side" technique for symposium mirage also comes in handy when using it as a component in compound tricks like "pixie symp mirage" or "atomic symp mirage"
symp=symposium btw idk if you have been cued into that yet as well
