keep posting vidz and i'll be sure i'm there next time you're on the east coast.

Wow, such kind words. Thanks guys :)
Makes me want to go to more events too!

Weather's so nice, but I still haven't had an outdoor session. I have a nice space in my backyard that I'm gonna try out soon. My basement is dumb. There is an especially low part of the ceiling that runs along the whole place right at temple height and I consistently bump my head on it. A few weeks ago I got a concussion from smacking my head against it right in the sweet spot and I just got another hard thump just now. My doctor warned me about being careful or I could get permanent brain damage. Looking forward to getting a job and moving out of here.

Super fun session today with Camille, Mike, JJ, and Tom. It was at a park that apparently "we" play at all the time, but I'd never been. I kind of wanted to bike there, but I think it would be an hour's ride and my bike probably needs some maintenance after a winter inside. Super nice weather. Kinda cloudy, but I was thankful for that because of the sunburn I sustained last weekend. It sucks especially with little hair because when it starts to flake off it looks like I have some weird condition or super bad dandruff.

Anyway, the highlight was that I played really well!
I hit some good stuff but also long, consistent runs, which was my goal for today. I had a lot of 20 and 30+ runs with good density. For that reason I don't remember too many highlights. I tried to do lots of pixie though, and that felt good. Just basic stuff like smears and dimwalks in boring drill fashion, but still. One run with scorpion's tail BSOS and spinning whip > ps whip [repeat] between them, lots of BSOS mobius I think. Some pixie paradons. Nothing too special, but long runs felt really good.

I didn't get much props, which was a little weird, I guess because I don't see Camille and Mike that often. To be fair I didn't give them too many props either for probably the same reason -- I'm not too familiar with where their games are currently at. JJ gave me quite a bit of props and I gave him quite a bit too. His game seemed really on -- longer runs with lots of guiltless links. Strange, but I think he's the most consistent FAT member to show at sessions. I made an offer to help motivate people to come out and play more regularly, saying that I would stitch a bag for anyone who comes to 5 sessions in a row, and I would be very surprised if someone got one before JJ.

Great weather, great company, and we had a nice little break mid-way kind of to wait on Tom and preserve our energy, where we just kind of chilled, talked, and ate fruit courtesy of Camille. I'd love to just hang more with these guys. The park was bustling too. There was a lot of skateboarding and freestyle football going on. Marnie also came by with baby Hella and Ruby and it was nice to see them. And I finally got to see one of Tom's kind of prototypes for the footbag shoe he and Johnny are working on. I may have seen one before, but I don't remember. Really fun day. And then I happened to stop for groceries again, forgetting how draining that is after a footbag session. My arms are too weak to carry so much stuff so far after a 2-3 hour footbag session. I also had to do a bunch of dishes, cook dinner, and clean up my lizard, who's had, like, diarrhea or something for the past few days. Our bathroom smells like a zoo.

Oh yeah, also, I have a crapload of footage of me, Alex, and Zach (and some of Johnny) from the past year-ish in London. And I actually went through and noted the times for all the stuff I will end up using in a video a while ago, which is the most time-consuming part of video editing. So in the near future I will put that together.

Had my worst session in memory today with Alex and Adam, but I did hit flip whirr for the first time. It felt deep too. Also I hit pdx torque > pdx blender and then dropped the blender BSOSing it, which felt super cool since I suck at both tricks. Nothing else happened all session

Decided I'd do a little barefoot tiltless stuff, just as a mini workout. Broke a few of the records I made last time (not my all-time records, but starting from scratch):
-54 legovers
-50 pickups
-16 orbits (bs)
-19 ATWs (left), 9 ATWs (right)

Those ATWs and orbits...
Gonna do some yoga now. Need to get in shape. I don't play nearly enough footbag for all the free time I have. It's mostly a motivation and energy thing. I have really bad mental health. So it felt good to be a little active today. Really wanna break out my bike, but the chain is coated in solidified gunk from the winter that I'll need to clean off some time

I forgot how good this album was

Nice job on flip Whirr :) I think it's easier to think of it as a Blazing ss Whirl. And you're awesome at Blazing sets now, so you just gotta bring yourself to do what you did in Request comp at PSU :P Seeing you hit that Whirl was easily a highlight for me haha

Also, nice stuff with the basics. I need to revert back to basics. Specifically Mirage and Illusion. I realized my flip Mirage isn't as tight as it should be. It's cool we can go back and fix our games by just practicing basics. Good luck with your basic drills and staying motivated.

If you ever need to get motivated to shred, just hit me up on Facebook and I'll get you amped to shred. I'm definitely trying to watch some more ChanStream too :D

Yeah, doing mini basics training is fun. I can't believe how tough ATWs are for me. I'm going to start warming up for sessions differently -- more toe heavy and less clipper-reliant. That's how I tried to start today's session too with Adam and Camille. I tried to do a lot of pixie shuffle. It was another terrible session for me overall, though. Super short strings. My trick selection felt pretty okay, though. Lots of torques, pixie stuff, some rev swirl stuff, toe ducking, spinning ducking... but really crap runs overall. Highlight may have been spender > hand catch > other side first try? Adam is just ALWAYS on. His game is amazing. He makes triples look so easy. I felt like a year or two ago we were like right at the same level, but he's definitely surpassed me. He plays, like, 3 times a week!! I really want to start doing that, especially now with such great spring weather and no job. I wonder if my body can handle it.

Oh, I hit blaze > pixie paradon BSOS first try, whirling same drifter first try (dropped trying to BSOS) -- not a new trick though. I think I tried because Adam footed blazing DLO first try. Camille was playing quite well, too, from what I know of her game. Some longer runs and some solid 3s. Despite her sciatica pain. Adam's out of town for a month for tree planting and then some work stuff in England, but I hope others will still be down to play regularly. Or maybe it will give me a chance to practice a lot and catch up to him.

I would totally be down to visit Oshawa regularly to jam with Cassy and Nathan too, but money is an issue since I'm barely scraping by at the moment. We're literally on social assistance. Public transit just within Toronto is a bitch as it is. Might try to start making the hour-ish commute by bike to weekly sessions. Might help my stamina? Or might just make my sessions even less productive. Haha

FREESTYLE BADGES
Just had an incredible workout. I feel really good.
First solo outdoors in my backyard. I have a nice little area, but the concrete tiles are a bit uneven, so spinning was a bit difficult as the crooked tiles sent me all over the place. I thought I'd take a shot at the badges, and I got a bunch I was happy with:
-atomic bronze
-stepping gold
-spinning gold
-ducking gold
-diving gold
-symp gold
-double dex bronze
-osis gold

I footed quantum bronze a few times with upward motion on the last trick, which was frustrating (toe blur > slapping mirage [repeat]), and I was close to pixie silver a few times, also frustrating, but I decided to end the session since I was a bit drained by that point. I didn't want to settle for anything less than pixie silver, and I think I could probably get gold with a couple sessions of practice. I've never practiced illusions because they used to hurt my knees and I can't do them very clean, so that will be a challenge.

I'll email the videos to the guys later today prolly.
It was just a really good feeling session. Oh, I also ended with wanting to just do 5 20-contact runs. Pretty much first try I got 3 20s, a 19, and a 16, and I felt cool with that. I focused a little on different downtime things for each, like eggbeater, double down, rev swirl. I felt that was a good ender since consistency and long runs is what I really want to get back the most. Nick Polini gave me a good pep talk and suggested cross-training with cardio. He suggested jogging or running, but like I keep saying in my posts I wanna start biking, which I think will give me a comparable cardio workout without the impact on my knees and shins.

MY POST-SHRED WORKOUT
Then I ended with stretching and yoga, which felt amazing. OMG. I sweated way more from the yoga than the footbag. The wind and sun dried my sweat as it excreted from my pores, so my shirt wasn't even wet, which is quite a feat if you're familiar with my sweat habits. I follow Tony Horton's 10-minute trainer Yoga Flex and then I add a few things after. Here's my post-shred workout (lasts about 15 minutes):
-sun salutation > upward dog > downward dog (x2)
-split-leg hamstring stretch (30 sec each side)
-runner's stretch > side lunge > runner's stretch > side lunge (15 secs each)
-right angle pose (30 secs each side)
-warrior 2 > reverse warrior > warrior 2 > reverse warrior (15-30 secs each?)
-hamstring stretch (30 secs each side)
-wide-leg hamstring stretch (15 secs?)
-cobbler (30 secs)
-pigeon (30 secs each side?)
-torso twist (15 secs each side?)
-deep torso twist (15 secs each side?)
-cat/camel (a few times)
-child's pose

Then I add:
-frog (for like 5 minutes?) -- my favourite yoga pose
-neck stretch
-backing up the car (neck stretch)
-neck rolls

I feel so great right now.
It was hard to start the workout, but once I was outside in the sun it felt so right.
I was also scared halfway through that my camera wasn't recording!!!! But then I realized that I had just left it recording for so long that it was into minutes instead of seconds, so the counter just wasn't moving as frequently after an hour. Oh yeah, also, I wasn't too sure if I followed the rules for the badges? I wasn't 100% clear on everything, like if it's okay to do symp mirage and ps mirage for the symp one? Or if I can do ducking and diving osis for the osis one? I dunno. The rule about double downs all being the same was the harshest for me. Bronze is the best I'll ever get for that one. Haha. Atomic could probably push more. I was surprised that quantum didn't hurt my hip more! But holy shit is consecutive quantum tricks a core workout! My abs and back huuuurt! Gonna drink a crapload of water now.

DARK SOULS
Oh, I also just got an Amazon delivery that I answered half naked. I got the official Dark Souls 2 guide. I've beat the game 7.5 times so far, but the guide was written by a guy I follow on YouTube and it's got a lot of lore info in it which is gonne be really fun to read more conveniently. I also got Blade of the Immortal vol. 28, which is the first comic I've ordered in a while. I don't have the money for it, but I wanted to get the guide before it was out of print (and it was pretty cheap) and then the comic boosted me up to free shipping, so I figured I may as well get something else. Yay. I love Dark Souls.

Props on getting all these in a single session!

I've been doing pigeon as a post shred stretch for just over a year now. I feel like its done wonders for my hips. Like my next session my hips are never as tight, because I do this pose.

The rules are kinda weird. Symp mirage and ps mirage with the same leg don't count as unique. But with the osis badge, anything before the osis makes it unique. The other weird thing with the badges is with double dexes. If there's an extra downtime dex at the end of a trick (the legover in flurry, the swirl in barfly swirl) it counts as unique even if the actual double dex motion is the same (barrage, barfly). But an uptime dex before a double dex doesn't make it unique (e.g. dimmier to blurrier is non unique). Ultimately there are aspects of the badges that I find arbitrary, like the number of contacts and some of these exceptions, but in the end its just a good excuse to drill concepts.

Thanks for the reply, Ken :)
Pigeon is probably the one that I don't feel the most out of everything I listed. Frog is for my hips and it's incredible. I highly recommend it if you haven't tried. It's very pleasurable.

EDIT: Ianek clarified the symp badge for me -- apparently a symp mirage is a symp mirage no matter what you put before it, so I had ducking symp mirage, symp mirage, and PS mirage. So here's a combo I'll try next time so I don't forget:
-flail > near symp butt > nova > symp whip > symp mirage [repeat]

EDIT 2: Watched your badges again after having done some myself. Never would have thought to do pogo! Gonna replace that nova with frontside blur > near symp whip! Might replace flail with frontside tap too if it's as easy as I remember...

Had a session with Cassy, Camille, and Johnny today. It was really cold and I couldn't get warm, so it was extra frustrating. Johnny was playing some of the best I've ever seen him. He was trying nuclear swirling as a set. He also invented(?) something like bent-knee flying clipper reverse whirling set? Cassy was having a sucky day.

I played super bad, but had a couple okay runs. One had double spinning clipper > spinning whip > blurry whip BSOS. One had like bedwetter BSOS, some triples, a blaze?, rev whirlygig one side and flip rev whirlwind the other, and dropped on the mobius BSOS. Also almost BSOSed rev maelstrom > mobius in another run. Oh, backside blingblang was a new trick too I think, but I really wanted double symp. I was close I think

Good question. I kept doing butterflies thinking they were whips when I was a tiltless player (close to a decade before I ended up using them as part of my core game). This was at a time when I had to learn tricks primarily from Job's Notation when there were very few internet videos in existence. And of course the Job's is the same for both tricks. The main difference is that for butterfly you point your knee outward, while for whip you point your knee inward. Does that make sense? So for whip you end up dexing more with your lower leg, while butterfly is dexed more with the upper leg.

Also, thanks Paul. Haha. Naw, those were good highlights for me. I just mean that I hit NOTHING ELSE for the whole 2 hour-ish session.

Just had a weird session.
I didn't sleep last night because my sleep hygiene is really bad. So I'm dead tired, but I really wanted to do the Level 2 badge. It was sooo nice out today. But I don't function well without sleep. I'm surprised that I'm still conscious. But I was really dizzy for lots of it. It was a productive session until DATWs. I don't remember being so frustrated playing footbag, like, ever. Like I felt like crying it was so frustrating. I did everything for the badge except flip DATWs. I actually did all three but missed the last toe stall. And then both sides hurt my neck quite a bit (I saved them for last 'cause I knew they were going to be the main challenge for me), and then my bad hip started tweaking on my flip DATW too. It was the most frustrating because I knew that I had to just give up and not do it :( It's going to kill my OCD to eventually finish the video and have one teeny clip where I'm wearing different clothes or something, or it's obviously a clip from another day because I failed to do a basic trick. Hahaha.
D:

I'm surprised I played at all, though, so in that respect it was cool. Everything else was really easy except for the DATWs... I don't think I've ever once practiced flip. Like ever.

I did my yoga too and I'm gonna get Jenn to give me a neck rub after a shower, 'cause I know my neck is gonna kill me for a few days as it is. Like it will hurt to turn is the kind of pain I'm anticipating. Gonna get her to lather on the tiger balm after too.

Oh yeah, and to top it off I spent a bunch of hours at a friend's house last night with her cat and dog, which I'm allergic to, and I started breaking out in hives a bit, off and on, and then I had some cold symptoms when I got home. So not feeling top-notch. Can't wait to sleep!

I feel like saving the hard part until you are tired may not have been the best plan. I tried level 2 today also but by the time I got to eggbeaters I was exhausted! Definitely wasn't happening in a single session for me haha.

Hey Cassy. Thanks for the reply.
Naw, I don't think it was 'cause I put it off until last. I just really suck at DATWs and I would have had the hip pain from it regardless of when I did it. I probably won't bother to even try for a few sessions. But it's something I'd like to learn anyway. I guess if I improve my flip pixie that will probably help a lot too, and that's at the top of my todo list.

SUCKY SESSION
I tried to have a relaxed/fun session today. It was super nice out, but just as I was planning to go out, Jenn's mom decided to come visit, so I had to put it off. By the time I got outside the sun had JUST gone away and it was a bit chilly and windy. Then my hip was still bothering me and I didn't really feel like playing. Like I had close to no interest in it. I needed people to play with. No hip pain would have helped too. I found my old challenges on a piece of paper I'd printed out ages ago and was gonna try some, but after failing at the first few attempts I didn't really feel like it anymore. I did some gyro flails, which was on the list, but I wanted to link them with something. I basically had a warm up and tried some single things that I failed at and then stopped. I really liked having the badges to work toward and be excited about. Oh, I was gonna try the symp one again, but thought I would do symp blazing instead of pogo for some reason and then just gave up before even trying 'cause of my hip and shins. Haha.

I wish my brother still played and lived close to me. I envy the Airinen brothers. Back when I first started playing my little brother was just as into it as me and was at the same level or better than me at one point. It was super cool to be able to just go outside and shred with him. He ended up stopping because of injury too. He can still pull out tiltless stuff occasionally, but generally doesn't play. And he lives in Hong Kong.

I'm so unmotivated that I didn't even feel like pressing "submit" on this post.
Any suggestions for the hacky blues?

WORK/DARK SOULS
The job front is still bleak, but I have an employment specialist who's been helping me with my resumes and cover letters and stuff, so that's helpful. I was also accepted as a registered editor on the official Dark Souls 2 wiki, which is pretty cool. The admin had to pay the software company to create an account for me. It's volunteer experience relevant to my field. So playing my favourite video game is technically research now :) It's the same kind of fun that I had working on my footbag video archives on Fourkast before they were unceremoniously removed. It's a super cool feeling to be the first to document discoveries in the game like how a certain popular weapon can be acquired multiple times per playthrough instead of just once like so many people believed, or intricacies of certain mechanics. Even editing for formatting, grammar, and consistency of articles is really fun for me. Similar to footbag, the community for this game series is really close-knit, welcoming (for the most part), and incredibly dedicated. The developer, FromSoft, is very in tune with what the fans want and works really hard to coordinate with us and give us the best experience possible, often against their best monetary interests.
