Re: Matt Kemmer: Operation DGI (Don't Get Injured)
Alright.
Played again today for 1.5 hours until it got too dark. Yay days in a row! Didn't really have time to do much else besides drilling so I just stuck to what I did yesterday (though my knee was a little tight from the nuclear so I swapped that out):
Revup 5x bs (much easier than yesterday)
SS Butterfly>Bubba Beater>Smudge rpt 5x bs
Tomahawk>Rev. Swirl 5x bs
Blur>Phoenix>Stepping Whirl 5x bs

Haven't been able to play since the last post because of musical things last week. It was great, but it was good to get back to footbag today.
Dan and I did a pretty solid 2.5 hours. I didn't hit anything really great, but everything felt pretty good. Worked a little more on Nuclear and had some good feeling Sumos. Dan had a much better session than I and hit 4 new dex tricks, all multiple times. He's looking very comfortable with everything he's doing now, I'm excited to see where the end of the summer will leave him.

Another 2 hours with Dan today. He continued to hit more dex tricks and even linked a couple together.
It was my first session with my new shoes. It's so weird to play in them. I'd been using my last pair since early 2010 I think, so they barely felt like shoes anymore but just big socks. This new pair is a half size down (though with how much the sole of the old pair was worn down they're probably close to the same weight) and I think they'll be really nice once the plasticy, new shoe feeling goes away. Most of the session was just struggling to get used to them, but I did manage a couple of decent strings by the end.

Today's one of those days when I really, really hate this sport.

Did you try Stepping Ducking again?
Re: Matt Kemmer: Operation DGI (Don't Get Injured)
I think it might be hopovers this time
Re: Matt Kemmer: Operation DGI (Don't Get Injured)
Those didn't help, but just one of those days when nothing feels good. I'm OK now.
In better news I did about half of the level 2 badge yesterday. I was running out of light so I stopped at the Dragonflys, but I'll hopefully get the rest soon.

Two sessions the past two days, hooah. My new shoes are about one session from feeling all natural, so that's nice.
Dan and I played yesterday for 2.5 hours. Nothing out of the ordinary, but was fun.
Did some solo drilling today. It was really hot out so I was pretty low energy, but I muscled through my drills. I also felt like practicing some harder stuff today:
Double down>Rev swirl 10x bs (5 ddd, 5 barfly)
Blurry Whirl>Fog 5x bs
PS Whirl>Stepping 'Whirl 5x bs
Ripped Warrior 5x bs
The last one is especially exciting. I've been able to "do" stepping ducking for like 5 years but I've always sucked at it. Nick helped me to realize some problems and I think I'm finally working towards learning it for real. yay.
Blurriest>Fog bs
Ripwalk>Ripped Warrior bs

Another 2.25 hours with Dan yesterday. We both played pretty poorly, so hopefully we got it out of our system for this weekend. I got a couple more good Ripped Warriors and Blurriest>Fog bs again. Other than that worked on Atomic a little bit (which hasn't felt super solid in a long time) and got Atom x6 (bleh).
Dan and I are leaving tomorrow morning so see you PA peeps mid-afternoon.

Re: Matt Kemmer: Operation DGI (Don't Get Injured)
I played yesterday for the first time since the net event. I've been pretty sick all week, so I probably shouldn't have played at all, but I was itching.
Worked some standard drills into my warmup that I used to do (stepping, pixie, ducking, spinning, etc); I think it's time to do these again to help warmup, and to drill them without drilling them.
Infinity>Revup 5x bs (which all felt pretty good; I'd like to be able to do these midstring eventually)
Fury 5x strong, 4x flip (ugh. I had to work a ton for each flip and just couldn't get 5. I have to find a good move to work up the motion in my left leg)
Barfly>DDD rpt 5x bs
I tried to drill Ripped Warrior after that, but it just wasn't happening and I stopped out of frustration.

Re: Matt Kemmer: Operation DGI (Don't Get Injured)
Played with Dan for 2.5 hours and I can gladly say that it was a lot of fun. The two sessions I had last week were the least fun I've had with footbag in a very long time, so it was reassuring to turn it around so quickly.
I'll let Dan cover his own stuff. For me:
Barfly>Symp. Whirling Swirl bs (though flip took way longer than it should have)
Pdx Whirl>Revup bs (I'd like a link like this to be reliable mid-string)
Legbeater>Janiwalker>Blur bs
Blurry Whirl>Fury
It's really fun to be doing Furious again. I haven't touched it seriously since 2010 (that might even be a stretch) and I'm probably going to better those sets in a few sessions. I had a couple mid-string Janiwalkers that were pretty decent sets and I can see myself getting consistent at it.

Re: Matt Kemmer: Operation DGI (Don't Get Injured)
Awesome highlights. Would love to see video. I've always felt you have one of the best styles in footbag. Textbook like Ales. But better. For the ddd > barfly repeat x5, is that 20 contacts, or 5 instances of the 4-contact drill? Regardless, awesome. I struggle with ddds. Also I can sympathize with having a couple good sessions after a lot of really bad ones -- it feels all the more sweet when you're back on your game again
Re: Matt Kemmer: Operation DGI (Don't Get Injured)
Thanks, Erik. I'll think about some video, but it honestly stresses me out to film solo and I usually end up not having fun, which I'm trying to avoid =) I know that Kevin has had some footage of myself, him, and Nick for a while, so hopefully he will have a chance to finish that soon.
Something like "Barfly>DDD rpt 5x bs" is my own shorthand for "(Barfly>DDD rpt) 5 times on both sides," so yeah, just one rep of the drill per hand catch. Double Downs are definitely one of my weak spots, so it's nice to be having highlights with them recently.

Yeah Kevin said that he got a lot of work projects dropped on him this week but it should be finished by the weekend. Nice highlights though, Snoop FapDawg

Re: Matt Kemmer: Operation DGI (Don't Get Injured)
Dan and I had a pretty lackluster sessions yesterday, but I had a pretty good 1.5 hour drilling session today. I had dinner plans so I had to rush, otherwise I could've gone for another hour:
Spinning Clipper>Revup 5x bs
Barraging Clipper 5x bs
Stepping Diving Clipper 5x bs
The second and third were tough, but rewarding. I feel like I'm getting actual sets when I do them, and the tricks themselves allow to put most of my focus on the set, which is good. Hopefully a summer full of those should make doing any kind of barraging or stepping ducking trick easy. I wanted to work on Fairy too (because I can mechanically do the set, I'm just under practiced with it) but I ran out of time.

Played again yesterday; 3 days in a row is a lot for me now. Definitely need a couple days off to recoup.
Dimwalk>Revup 5x bs
arraging Clipper 5x bs
Fairy Legover>Fear rpt 5x bs
Stepping Diving Clipper 5x bs
Tried to just play for fun after this but I was exhausted. Best thing I managed was Janiwalker>Food bs (which I hit like 5 years ago, but I guess it's nice to feel like I actually owned it this time)

Re: Matt Kemmer: Operation DGI (Don't Get Injured)
Took most of the week off until yesterday. Dan and I played for 2 hours, but we both blew our energy pretty early on and it ended up being pretty mediocre. The furious stuff I was practicing paid off and I was getting some nice janiwalkers midstring, which are always super satisfying.
And, oh hey! I decided yesterday to go to USO =D

Have fun at USO! Also, porpoise on Janiwalker midstring. Also, also, come to artsfest.
