Prunus: Thanks dude. Not sure what you mean by toe flicks? I always flick my toes when doing toe kicks. I can usually only do 3 or 4, I neglected toe kicks severely in my hacky sack/ very early footbag days and so am just now trying to bring them up to speed.

@Nathan: I sorta kind of do that I think. Whenever I do orbits I usually just use my support leg in time with my dex, pushing off it but not quite an entire magic hop? I don't know, it's hard to explain. Sort of in the middle between stationary and total hop.

Yea I think they're fun, I just didn't practice them as much as toe stalls so now they're behind in skill level but I'm trying to make up for that now. Thanks!

@Dan: Thanks dude! Yea it seems like it could be really good cross training for footbag players. I'll have to see how it develops in the near future.

@Nick: Blast from the past yay. Maybe there is a connection between skipping rope and footbag. I will present my thesis after extensive study at East Coasts :D

----

Session with Kemrar today. Went okay, was kind of frustrated I couldn't do more dense links/ strings, then I remembered I haven't really mastered any tricks yet so drops are to be expected sometimes I suppose. Got a couple things:

Mirage x6 BS
Mirage > Pickup > rpt x1
Mirage > Mirage > Legover > rpt x1
3 Mirage > Mirage > Pickup > rpt x1
Pickup x6 (3 BS)
Legover > Legover > Pickup > Pickup
Other (not footbag):
100 skips (68 in a row)
2 minute plank exercise (sister and I had this challenge to do, she had to do planks for days as a gymnast so we're both getting into some random exercise stuff, wall sits etc.)

Gonna devote the rest of the week's sessions to Clippers I think. Too much toe shit happening right now.

Really hit me how close ECFC is. I am just super excited to meet a bunch of new people and see old friends again. The shred is already palpable. I only have one class on Fridays and it's relatively early so I probably won't even have to miss it! So stoked though. Cya for now homez.

Prunus: Yea dude! Sick, mad stoked to see ya man.

----

What a great fucking day. Only had one class, which I actually participated in class discussion a little bit (I normally don't). After that I was free the rest of the day. Ate some lunch with people, played some chess with my mate AJ (he destroyed my asshole). I think I'm slowly starting to get better however. I had to dip after two chess losses to go to the gym with my friends Matt and James to workout arms.

At around 4:30 Matt and I headed out to the turf soccer fields to play a game of ultimate frisbee with AJ and a bunch of other people. I had never played before so I was a bit confused as to how it worked, but I got it down quickly. Unfortunately I'm an abysmal frisbee thrower so not much help there. I am decent at running around and making cuts though, so I made some good plays, scored a point or two. Pretty fun stuff, quite a bit of cardio too! You're constantly moving so I got some exercise from that. Matt and I did a 2 minute plank along with one of the girls Amanda who hopped in for the last minute (she probably could have planked for fucking days judging by her body structure). There was also this guy Sam who is a hacker/ footbagger who's into some weird trick shit. Didn't have time to kick around there but I have hope it'll happen soon. There seems to be a decent bit of interest on campus for footbag so I'll have to see how that develops.

After that James, Matt, and I went to a local pizzeria to grab some food (fucking hungry after gym + ultimate). Went back to Matt's room to play Pokemon Stadium for a while. Wasn't used to the older Pokemon mechanics so I was kinda rusty I guess. Oh well.

There was some sort of country fest tonight on campus so we chilled there for a few. Dude singing there was actually pretty dope with vocals and guitar! Can't remember his name, might have to look it up later. I'll post some of his music if I find it, along with a bunch of other songs I've been jamming to recently.

Okay, footbag steez. After that music shit I geared up and took a nice walk to the other side of campus to this small auxiliary gym in one of the residence halls. Kemmer knows what I'm talking about, I'll include a photo of it later. Today was an hour and a half of Clippers. So if you're reading this Matt Kemmer, ya owe me half an hour of stepping ducking bullshit.

Want to learn how to get better at Clippers guys? It's this weird shit where you practice fucking Clippers. Crazy right? Marathon style shit:
100 Inside Stalls (50 BS, 30 in a row)
20 Inside Stall > Wrap (10 BS)
40 Clipper position > stall (20 BS)
200 Clippers (100 BS)

Other:
200 skips (61 alternating left in a row, 67 alternating right in a row)

"I'm going to believe in what you said to do what I want so I'm going to mass murder people" -A girl on the phone with someone as I was walking out of the residence hall. Uhhh... Okay lady O_O

Sorry for lack of quality posts in the past few days, been very busy. Will make up for it soon, I promise.

I am fucking beat. Hitting the hay, probably going to be sore as fuck for my session tomorrow with Kemsauce. We'll see. Later n3rds.

Been mad busy, sorry for lack of quality content. Unfortunately only got time for str8 footbag shiz right now. Session with Kemdawg on Saturday which left me too sore to shred for a couple days. Things I did that session:

Inside toe pickup mirage rpt x1
Mirage clipper rpt x1
Legover toe clipper Ss toe rpt x1
Mirage legover rpt x3
Mirage Ss mirage rpt x2
Pickup toe clipper Ss toe rpt x1

Another session today, worked on a few links:
5 mirage pickup rpt x1
5 mirage legover rpt x1
5 legover toe clipper Ss toe rpt x1
5 pickup toe clipper Ss toe rpt x1
Also fucked with some Illusion shit, they feel at least a little less fucking wack now. That's cool I guess. Out for now.

Session with Kemmizle today. Went for about 2 hours, had fun. Got a couple new links:
 Mirage > Mirage > Pick-up > repeat opposite x1.5 (9 contacts)
 Clipper > Far Mirage > repeat x2
 Mirage x12 (6 Bsauce so 6 in a row one side, op toe repeat)
 Pickup > Opposite Toe > Clipper > SS Toe > repeat x2

Music to share, drawings to show, stories to tell. Music stuff:

I think Matt would especially appreciate this. Piano/ Cello cover of the song "Secrets" by One Republic.

"Shy Boy" by District 78. Sort of like electronic dance type music? Pretty cool shit, check it out.

"In Between" by artist/ producer Caleb Schomo. It's technically the band "Beartooth" but he recorded this song as well as the whole album "Disgusting" by himself. Check it out if you're into hardcore/ metalcore type of music.

Okay some drawing shit I've been doing:

Image

Here's an orca mommy with her baby or whatever. Not really, I just fucking looked up two different pictures of orcas and put them together. Not finished totally with further rendering of proportions and values but it's coming along.

Image

This is an imaginary landscape I've been slowly working on. It's supposed to be kind of like a frozen island lost in time sort of thing. Much more work to do. Decent start.

Random shit:

Image

Here's that gym I was talking about, it's pretty rad. I would go there all the time if I didn't have to walk across Africa to get there.

Image

Here is our newest "recruit" Natalie wrecking kids at some limbo contest. Matt was getting all pissed cuz everyone was fucking up and doing it incorrectly. I guess he's a limbo expert as well as a footbag expert :P

Image

^ This shit is good.

So fucking excited for East Coasts. I just watched this video of Evan Gatesman and am just so pumped to see all these new people and old friends:

Haven't bagged the foot in a few days. After that session with Matt on Thursday I unfortunately forgot to completely stretch out and my inner left quad felt kind of tight/ strained for a couple days. It's pretty much fully functional now but I'm way too busy with classwork to play. I want to try and get 1 or 2 more sessions in before Easts Coasts, just to practice and not be rusty as hell next weekend. Definitely going to take a break for the last few days leading up to ECFC to rest my muscles up though.

Some random crap:

My school has been building this grotto type place on campus for the past few months. It's supposed to be a sort of recluse place for people to chill and meditate, but Matt and I think it could be a nasty shred spot. Obviously wouldn't want to fuck with people's zen shit if that's going on but we'll see what the overall atmosphere is like when the construction is done. Here's a picture of it:

Image

I watched a rugby game yesterday for the first time. That shit looks confusing as hell and brutal too. I guess it's sort of like football but after the ball gets dropped the game just... Keeps going? I watched for half an hour and had no clue what was going on other than our team was fucking dominating. Cool I think? Here's a picture:

Image

I've been playing some more Yu-Gi-Oh duels with my roommate James. We're pretty evenly matched, pretty sure it's an exactly 50% win/ loss rate for each of us. I got a few new cards off Amazon, slowly starting to try and change my deck into something a lot more strategic than just luck of the draw sort of deal. Some of you old-timer Yu-Gi-Oh fanatics may recognize some of these cards (accidental bonus shot of my roommate's foot lol):

Image

Hung out with Matt Kemz and a few of his friends yesterday for dinner cuz Matt's old as fuck now. Met a couple new people including a guy named Kevin (fucking hilarious), Alex (she was pretty chill, mad nice), and Steve, who I sort of knew through his girlfriend Brittany, who I was already friends with. Brittany and I talked music most of the time, while I was occasionally laughing my ass off at some of Kevin's disgusting puns. I can't remember them all, he was fucking going HAM with them for a good 5 minutes with Steve, some classics like "Do you wanna taco 'bout it?", "Cmon Matt, you really need to ketchup on your feelings", and "You're a real chip off the old block [we were eating nacho chips]"). Once I find some fucking time I'm gonna draw something footbag related for Matt. Should be fun, I'll post it here when I'm done. Last picture (of me and Matt, blurry as fuck, Kevin should definitely never be a surgeon, sorry bud (although given the atmosphere of the place we were eating, blurry is more than acceptable)):

Image

That's it for now I guess. Shit went down that I've been thinking about in my head for a little bit. Might try to organize my thoughts into a coherent piece sometime later in the week (in the appropriate discussion thread, not here).

I think Yu-Gi-Oh is the only TCG I have never played. Does it play like Hearthstone? I looks like it might. I don't know why I avoided it, I guess I didn't like the art too much. 8)

Also, these two drills are your friend:

1) Mirage > Legover > repeat
2) Illusion > Pickup > repeat
I hate bad form and I'm a hypocrite.

I'm loving the drills, mango!
Want a tip Nick passed down to me from Anssi? No? Fuck you, here it is:
-A great way to get better at the basic toe dexes is to warm up with atw/orbit suicide style.
-atw x 1 > orbit x 1 (then switch legs then...
-atw x2 > orbit x 2 (then switch legs then...
-atw x3 > orbit x3 (then switch legs then...
-do it again but backwards. I think that is how Nick described it to me. If it interests you, ask him about it.

Keep up the training, mango! I'm stoked for punkin jam. Are you?''

Dear Ben,

Thank you. I would love any tips related to foootbag ever. I'll have to keep that one in mind for my sessions to come. I'll ask Nick about it later.
Super stoked for pumpkin jamz. I will train hard.

Warm regards, Dan.

----

So I've had two session since my last post on Friday, one with Matt on Sunday and one short solo session on Tuesday. Did not hit anything extremely noteworthy but that's okay.

Session with Matt:
Usual drills mostly, Matt helped my form on tricks out of Clipper and Paradox Mirages make a lot more sense now. Before I was planting both feet before doing the mirage part but now I see it can be done in one fluid motion. So that's neat. Couple new things from that session:
-Mirage x10 (starting on right toe)
-Mirage > SS Legover > SS Mirage rpt x1 drill

Solo session (7.10.14, about an hour total):
Mirage > Legover > repeat opposite x2
10 Legover > Opposite Toe > Clipper > SS Toe > repeat x1
5 Paradox Mirage from right
5 Pickup > Opposite Toe > Clipper > SS Toe > repeat x1

Been having a small amount of pain in my right calf later into my sessions consistently that lasts for a day or two. Matt and I agreed that it was probably just my muscles getting used to really tensing up for my clipper sets, so hopefully this won't be a lasting problem. If it still persists after a couple weeks however I'll have to re-analyze everything and try to find some fault in my form somewhere.

I got interviewed for an online magazine/ news editorial for being a "campus celebrity" (small college :P). Got to talk a decent bit about footbag to someone who had no knowledge of the sport at all and is going to write an article about me in the next week or so. Was pretty fun, I'll link it here when it comes out if anyone's interested.

I'm very sorry for the lateness in my ECFC write-up, I promise: next post I make will be one extremely large write-up on a bunch of different things including East Coasts. But until then, peace out homez.

Can you Symple Legover? I'm bad at descriptions, but it's something like set, don't plant, then hop off support leg, and do the Legover. Makes sense in my head, but my head makes no sense. How many ss Mirages can you do back to back, also, how is the Illusion department in your game?

Derek: Yes, sort of. Only learned them a week or so ago, still trying to get them consistently. Ss mirage record is 4 total so far, just tried today for the first time. Will try again on my next session. Illusions are nonexistent. Need to start giving them some attention soon I think.

Ben: I like them too bud. Thanks <3

----

I'm really sorry guys for not doing an ECFC write-up yet, been very busy with essays, midterms, tests etc so haven't had the time/ motivation necessary to devote to writing. I will get to it soon, probably over the three day weekend I have this week. If it's not done by Monday next week I'll owe you guys one hour of clipper practice for every day it's late. But here's some stuff from my most recent session:

10.10.14
50 insides 31 in a row
20 Clipper 10 bs (new clipper b2b right)
5 mirage clipper rpt x1
5 Legover op toe clipper ss toe rpt x1
4 Paradox mirage from left (new)
Clipper ss legover mirage BS

Tomorrow will be my 4th day of no footbag, probably the longest break I've had in weeks. Right calf is still fucked, I don't know what it is and it's very irritating to try to just push through it. That's probably not the smartest solution to the problem either... I don't know. I'll see how I'm feeling in a few days. Hopefully better news to report by then. Peace out girl scouts.

P.S. Matt Kemmer likes romantic comedies.

Section 1-East Coasts Footbag Championships:
1a. Friday
1b. Saturday
1c. Sunday
Section 2-Post Event reflections:
2a. Future future footbag goals
2b. Footbag related but not quite thoughts
Section 3-Random stuff (unorganized)
---
Section 1-East Coasts Footbag Championships

1a. Friday

I only had one class on Friday so I didn't end up having to miss class time for this event fortunately. I brought all my travel gear to class and met up with Matt around 12:30 to get to the train station. Once there, we printed out our tickets (fucking Matt dude. Fucking Matt paid for my train ticket. This fucking guy I swear) and got on board. We had an actual copy, but you can actually scan your ticket with your phone. With your fucking PHONE. Technology is insane.

So anyways, I was kind of mad tired from staying up late the night before and dozed off for about an hour of the three hour train ride (sorry Matt). I woke up and decided to suggest to Matt that we partake in a thrilling duel of Yu-Gi-Oh.

Image
Teaching Matt how to play Yu-Gi-Oh (Sorry for blurriness, taking pictures on moving trains is 3hard5me).

So we get to duel for a while (Matt actually beats me once or twice, this was before I really started to mod my deck) and eventually we arrive at Penn Station. By some miracle of Jayzeus Christo we manage to get to Mikie Etlinger's house (located in a super Jewish neighborhood, like maad orthodox judaism). Once there, we meet Mikie and his roommates Yrsa and Vera (chill as fuck). It's around 5 at this point, and Mikie has to go HAM at work until like fucking 3 am or some bullshit.

So we're basically on our own for the night, two Saratoga shredders in a city unknown, so Matt calls up some other homies who I guess are at the Brooklyn Bridge Park already. Sick. So after a dinner of tier 2 fast food, we make our way down to the park to try to find people flailing their legs wildly.

Image

Image

We eventually find everyone as they are leaving the rec center on the pier farthest away from where Matt and I started. Proceed to meet a cluster-fuck of new people including Andre, Anton, Derek, many others and some old friends (Ryan Thomas, Cassy, Drew I think?). Sorry if my memory is a bit faulty at times throughout this, writing about stuff that happened three weeks ago is weird. We all head back to the shred house where I meet even more people, we have a nice group grocery store trip where I buy some peanut butter and crackers (naturally). Head back to shred house where I get skooled in some footbag history lessons on this tiny ass TV with a VCR (the fuck).

Eventually I'm just like I want to kick and pull out my Lavers to have a session in the kitchen. After a while, I get warmed up and others start to join in and cook up some nasty strings. I think it was me, Andre, Anton, Nick, and Marc in a circle at one point. Nick helped me a bit with my Clippers. Most of the PSU crowd was chilling at Bruce's so didn't see them until Saturday. Around 11 or midnight Matt and I dip the fuck out to crash back at Mikie's. We end up fucking up the subway route and go in a big circle for about an hour and a half, but we make it back safe N sound, and proceed to die until tomorrow.

Section 1b. Saturday... To be announced.
