I was waiting for the party night write-up. Good times. You didn't get to see the Boats v Hoagie pasta bowl fiasco of 2014, or were ya not in the bathroom then? That was some rough tequila, it made me run away. Pushing, really? Maybe more like enthusiastically offering. Hah. No one knew her name? Ahh, the lovely "Go to the bathroom!" story. I blame the sketch tequila
Sucks he did that, and you had to deal with it at a footbag event.
I dig the pics. Can't wait for the rest, and may be seein' ya soon.

You’re fun Kevin! I will take your jam and Bob’s salsa into consideration.
Thanks Derek! I don’t know how I missed the pasta situation. Must’ve been when it was gettin’ too hot in there and I needed to breathe.
Where was I.. Sunday!
I slept in until passed 8:30! I must’ve needed it. Derek was already up and I was surprised at how chipper he was after all the Jager. I walked with Zach Hoffa to get coffee. We had to get moving a little faster to get to the event site on Sunday but it still wasn’t a terrible hurry.
A big group of us left the ECFC house to walk the 30ish minute walk to the event site. I’m a fast walker so I always appreciate finding other fast walkers to break away from the group with. Marc was in a hurry because intermediate circle final was starting soon so I ended up speed walking with him. This was refreshing in contrast to always having to check my speed. It was cool to get some one-on-one time with him. He’s a great guy to talk to. The walk was through some more sketchy, grimey, industrial parts of brooklyn. I found the backdrop to be pretty interesting. Too bad I haven’t got photos. It was a pretty long walk but I found it enjoyable. We got to the event site and I geared up and had been shredding for about 10 minutes before the rest of the group from the house rolled up.
So many people were at the site already! WOOO!
I know I shredded a bit With Zach Hoffa, Johnny Breakdown, April, there was definitely some bear shred in there and some more Ryan Thomas to name a few.
Bruce gave out some really neat NYFA keychains. Here, lemme take a photo..

Speaking of things Bruce made, the awards and T-shirts were super dope!
I played with my hoop a fair amount on Sunday and talked to Alyssa a bunch about hoop theory and stuff. That was pleasant. It was great to see other people having fun with it. Alyssa was messing with it a bunch and I know Pete was also doing some neat tricks. And then I saw the cameo boats had in Barrett's video. Lolz.
Intermediate circle finals were really fun to watch! It was Ben, Greg, Marc, and Johnny. Everyone seemed to play really well which is really refreshing to see in circle comp. Ben had some nice stylish runs, Greg did some really cool sole stuff, Marc was playing consistently and Johnny just tore it up! It was really great to see Johnny take it! He is definitely ready to start competing open

Watching the Open routine finals was one of my favourite parts. Live routines are so great because you never know what to expect.
Ryan Thomas pretty much NAILED his routine! Only one drop. It was absolutely fucking stunning. It made me so happy I nearly cried. If routines were judged by emotional reaction this one would have taken first for me. So flowy and beautiful. I definitely have a thing or two to learn from him.
Here’s the routine if you are interested:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXJ9-Hg5 ... HAYI-_kWuA
Jon made a comment to me about getting disqualified for judging because he “didn’t have Ryan as last”. It is insane to me that a five drop routine would beat such a nice single drop routine. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Mathieu’s routine but it simply was not well executed in the final round. I don’t think drops are penalized harshly enough in routines if this can be so.
I was really rooting for Bryan to go dropless! His routine was so stylish and awesome with two little drops. So fun to watch.
Next it was Ken’s turn. He blew me away! His choreography and execution was super solid. One of the best live routines I’ve ever seen (rivaling Evan’s performance the day previous).
Evan would have to at the very least match his performance from the day before to take the gold. I was really hoping he would do it! He just didn’t quite pull it off unfortunately. He had one sketchy drop in the middle of his routine and I was just glad he didn’t hurt himself. Still a beautiful routine.
Circle final was super intense! Adam, Chris, Ken, and Evan. Everyone played quite well. Some of the footage is out already. Evan had one of the most epic runs. He’s so fucking good at footbag. It was really great to see my fellow FAT comrade Adam represent and take third place! He’s gotten so nasty at footbag this year and really deserved it
After competition I was eating a can of tuna and Ken asked me to shred with him! Cool! I finished eating quick and jumped into his circle. I played poopy and it didn’t last long at all. Lame.

At some point in the afternoon when some people had already started to leave Erik Chan arrived with his lovely lady Laura. It was about time! I found myself in a circle with him and promptly got out to give someone who doesn’t play with him several times a month a chance
I was drawn to watch the end of the singles net final with Ryan. It was pretty intense match between Manu and Dan Greer. Dan is super good at net and it was crazy watching him get demolished. He put up a good fight though. I felt bad for the net players because it was brutal hot in the sun. It made me really grateful that the freestyle spot was shady.
I shredded with a bunch more cool people. I wish I could remember whom. Marc, Bob, Mikie, Derek to name a few. One person that stuck out was Bijan. We shredded together a lot and he was the one that suggested Neo Swirling set. I can’t believe I never thought of that before. I ended up leaving the circle I was in to go grind something out of that set. I think inside Frankenstein is totally within reach.
.
Neo Swirling Pickup
Having Neo Swirling as a legitimate component in my game would be totally rad and not even that unreasonable with a little work.
I spent a lot of time on Sunday hanging around, messing with my hoop, and talking to people. Who knew you could do things at footbag events other than straight shred? This is something I’m starting to learn.

Brian and Derek (and maybe a couple others, Kevin and Pete?) disappeared for the longest time Saturday afternoon. I wondered for a while where they had gone. Eventually they came back with burritos. Apparently they had gone to find pizza (something Derek was on a mission for), went the wrong way, and had an intensely long food mission. Kinda made me glad I packed a sandwich and some tuna.
The award ceremony was neat because the prizes were actually fantastic! It was great to see my friends win cash money ($200/$125/$50 for open 1/2/3), nice bags, as well as sick plaques made by Bruce.
There were a lot of goodbyes on Sunday. I wasn't going to get sad yet though because I knew I had another day left and fucking amazing people to spend it with. Ryan was the toughest goodbye that day for sure. Those eyes.
I didn't spend nearly enough time thanking Jon, Bruce, Drew, Dave, and Ted for their hard work and general awesomeness. They kick ass.
Drew did such a great job MCing all weekend! You are the best Drew!!!!
I think I was one of the last ones shredding again! All the best shred this weekend happened at the end of the days for me.
Drew offered to drive us back to the shred house which I was super grateful for. That 30 minute walk would have been rough on the way back. Adam, Evan, Derek, Brian and I all piled into his rather small car. Luckily we are small people and it was just cozy enough
I think that’s enough writing for now. This writeup is turning out to be quite the chore. I know I will be glad I created it though
So close to being done! Just Sunday evening pizza predicaments as well as Monday goodbyes left to cover.

Re: Feminine Freestyle --- ECFC/NYC 2014 Part 6!
I need to take a pause from my writeup to talk about the fabulous session I had today!
I decided not to let the bballers intimidate me and I claimed a chunk of the main gym for my session today. The gym was pretty busy but I positioned myself in such a way that I would see the balls coming at me peripherally and there were only a couple near misses.
Five days of rest really did me good! I didn’t think I would play too long because I’m still getting over this cold but I felt awesome and shredded for a solid hour.
I don’t know why I haven’t gotten into soundcloud sooner. It makes it sooo easy to find great shred beats.
I got in a really nice infinity grove and my form just felt perfect and I was so focused on breathing. I got Infinity x50 > handcatch. I could have gone much further but I didn’t want to push too hard and use all my energy up on that.
The whole session felt like a highlight. I would pick a component, kick its ass first try with a drill or consecutives or whatever, and move on the the next concept.
Some highlights I remember
Neo op Guay x4 > Neo op Switch > handcatch
Down>Pdx DLO 8 contacts > handcatch
Drifter x11 not my best but best in a while
Pickup>Rake 22 contacts
I worked on lots of other stuff too. Twirls seemed to be working really nicely. Progress made on spinning, ducking, shuffle and more.
I cleared the inside phasing set flipside several times today. I will hit a trick with it soon.
I gave all my bags a wash the other day so it was fun to have my first solo session with my newest April, Bear, and Boychuk bags. They are all super freaking nice!
This has got to be the greatest number of choice, shredable bags I’ve had at a given time.

From left to right (newest to oldest) - April, Brian, Boychuk, Landes, April, Ivan, Suderman. Aww yiss.
It just felt so good to have a session without any pressure. Not having to worry about others watching. Capped it off with a nice long sauna session and a meal including bacon, eggs, banana, tomato with olive oil and loaded with feta. So good
I am really looking forward to what this winter brings for my game.
I got invited to a house party tonight by a fellow hoop enthusiast that I know on fb and goes to my school. I wont know anyone and I kinda like putting myself in these kinds of situations occasionally. I think it will be a good opportunity to meet interesting new people. I'm going to bring my hoop and juggling things.

Great write up, Cass! Thanks for making the long journey down, without people like you, NYFA would have just had a session, not a footbagapalooza. Take that, spellcheck.
I wish these things lasted longer, maybe about a week long or so. Hmmm...week-long tournaments...I have heard of such things...
It sounds like people had a great time, which is why we all do what we do! Thanks for being part of it, you rock!

Re: Feminine Freestyle --- ECFC/NYC 2014 Part 6!
I always enjoy your writeups. You do them well. I always really feel like I experienced the jam in real life when I wasn't at the jam you're writing up on and when I am at that jam, it's a really cool flashback and a really great view from someone else's perspective. That part about the person cornering you in the bathroom is fucking lame. I hope that person was just really drunk or something and was seriously sorry the next day. That's a shame that a footbagger would do that. Surprised that it was at a footbag jam too. I really noticed a change in your game. Big change. You seem to have fixed your hunching problem too. You were shredding pretty dense this weekend. Due to our bits of controversy in the past, I didn't feel super comfortable, so i didn't join any circles with you (I'm sure it was similar vice versa) but I did watch some of your runs when I could catch them. I'm glad I talked to you on Sunday. I would have regretted it if I didn't. We'll definicely be shredding at either Boston, psu, nyj or... All of em lol anyway, train hard for the next one. And hit that inside Frankenstein! You inspired me to get into phasing, btw. Peace out til next time.
Re: Feminine Freestyle --- ECFC/NYC 2014 Part 6!
Thanks Bruce and Nick! It's nice to know some people enjoy my event write ups.
It's kinda cool noticing that I don't have to stand back up after a run because I'm already standing straight rather than being hunched/off balance.
So the party last night was an interesting social experiment. I got amped up on an energy drink, put on some fluorescent legwarmers, grabbed my hoop, and dove in.
It was a typical college party. Beer pong, flip cup, a lot of yelling. Met a lot of [moderately] interesting people. Managed not to feel super awkward. The advantage of going to a party where you don’t know anyone is not having to give a fuck what people think. I could easily never see them again. This made it possible to decide who I wanted to be that evening and just be that person.
The core group of people at the party came from a catholic secondary school background. This was interesting considering how secular most groups I’m involved in are. There was some serious shit talk about Jesus. Drunk Christians (some of them) say worse things about him than atheists! I guess it makes sense because atheists have no reason to be resentful
I did find it intriguing nonetheless.
The music at the party was wack. I really gotta start bringing my speaker everywhere so I may supply the tunes. I just didn’t want it to get fucked up or stolen ‘cause I don’t know these people.
I had a pretty great time considering I chose not to drink and went into the party knowing nobody. I did a lot of messing with my hoop while I was there. Drunk people are easy to impress. I'm starting to get pretty decent at isolations which are fun.
There was a whole bunch of candy/chocolate at the party and I went and gave myself a sugar hangover. I forced myself to shred it off this afternoon. My session wasn’t nearly as good as yesterday but it was still productive and worthwhile.
Gyro Clipper x10 only about a week late
Ducking Clipper x14
Pdx Whirl x5 > Handcatch
I’m going to finish my write up soon. I swear..

Re: Feminine Freestyle --- ECFC/NYC 2014 Part 7!
Okay I think I’m finally ready to finish this thing. I’ve been almost reluctant to do so because it was such a marvellous event and I don’t want to have to admit to myself that it’s really over. I’ve been feeling pretty run down ever since and it has been a struggle for me to get back to normal. Today was a good start so I’m hoping that the rest of this week will bring continued productivity and positivity.
Originally the plan for Sunday night had been to stay at Bruces place. Ted offered us another night at the ECFC house if we helped clean up in the morning. The place was slightly trashed from the party Saturday night. Although cleaning didn’t sound very appealing it just made more sense to stay there. Our stuff was already there and there would be more beds to sleep on comfortably. I felt bad that I wouldn’t have an opportunity to hang out with Bruce that night. Maybe next time..
Of the freestylers it was just Evan, Derek, Brian and I left. Well adam was also there but he was beat that evening and kept to himself. Back at the house we showered up and Ted made us pasta again which I was extremely grateful for. Derek really wanted to get pizza despite the free pasta available. He had some pasta but his mind was still all about the pizza.
We were all pretty beat. Drew had suggested a show we might go to but none of us really seemed to have the energy for it. Drew left and I gave him a great big hug. Seemed like it would be a pretty chill evening.
The four of us were huddled in the upstairs bathroom having a chat with the coach. The usual. Derek got a call from Ken! He wanted us all to do something together. It was great that he initiated this because nothing would have happened otherwise. I spoke with him on the phone briefly and pleaded for him to just make a choice and we would follow.
The four of us grabbed a cab to a bowling alley somewhere in Brooklyn to meet up with Ken, his wife haley, and Barrett.
I wore sandals - a poor choice for bowling. Luckily there were socks available for sale.
Tequila shots!
Ken treated us to the bowling. That was super nice of him, especially considering my funds were low at this point. Thanks Ken!
Bowling was fun. I sucked really bad at first. I’m not used to 10 pin bowling and the bowling balls were mostly too heavy for me. At the start of the second game I finally got in a groove and had something like three spares in a row followed by a strike. Someone else at the bowling alley was celebrating his birthday and he gave us all donuts. This was a tasty treat that also made my fingers too greasy and threw off my bowling game. I finished off the game with something like 4 zeros in a row lolz. I still managed to beat my score from the first game.

After the bowling Brian and I did two more tequila shots! We all took turns playing some pool. I remember saying to Brian how I’m not that great at pool but once in a while I’ll get a streak of like three balls in a row. And then exactly that happened. Cool.
Brian treated me to one last tequila shot. 4 is the magic number.
This is the point at footbag events where I start to get all mushy because I know the end is near.
I said goodbye to Ken and Haley. I was glad we got a chance to hang out a little more. By this point I was pretty spent. We said goodbye to Barrett and found ourselves a cab back to the ECFC house.
Derek was still on about pizza. He seems to have trouble with technology though because he had a real time trying to find a pizza place. Admittedly I took some amusement in his struggles. We were in Brooklyn. Pizza really could not be that difficult to obtain.
Eventually Derek managed to order a pizza to be delivered. I wasn’t sure why he didn’t just choose a place that was within walking distance. It was supposed to arrive within an hour.
An hour and a half later, still no pizza. Derek was rattled.
Finally we all just decided to go to sleep. Not ten minutes after we shut the lights off I hear the buzzing of a phone. Then it buzzed again. That’s right, it was the pizza. A full two hours late. The whole situation was absolutely hysterical. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard! Derek was not pleased. If I hadn’t burst into an uncontrollable fit of laughter over it he surely would have been furious.
Apparently there was some sketchy business with the pizza delivery guy. Not really sure what the deal with that was. Derek finally got the pizza that he had been on about all day!
I slept really well Sunday night. I actually slept great all weekend. Nothing like a real bed to sleep in at a footbag event. And a pretty rad person to share it with.
I woke up decently early Monday but stayed in bed for some amazingly awesome cuddles. Probably for close to two hours. Ted must like us or something because somehow we got out of cleaning duties altogether. I had intended to help but by the time I got going it was pretty much taken care of.
Hottest shower of the weekend.
Packing up my stuff. Dreading those last goodbyes.
Peace out ECFC house! You were swell.

I gave Ted a big hug goodbye and thanked him. Evan was going to go with him to help him with something. He was supposed to meet back up with us at Barretts. I gave him a quick hug just in case. I wish I had given him a better goodbye..
I took a cab with Adam, Derek, and Brian to the place where my car was located. Luckily it was still there. $72 later I was navigating dreaded Brooklyn traffic again. We made it safely to Barrett’s place where Adam and I would meet up with Erik and Laura for the journey home.
Barrett and Derek played a game of chess at the apartment while Adam played a skateboarding video game.
I was a mess.
I tried to enjoy the time I had left with Brian but I couldn’t prevent the unfortunate fact that I wouldn’t be seeing him again for months (at least) from creeping into my awareness. I didn’t bother trying to stop the tears anymore. After the highs of this whole overwhelmingly incredible event I just crashed into a blubbering pile of footbag girl.
Apparently Ted got into some sort of fender bender and I never did get to say a proper goodbye to Evan. I feel really blessed to have had the opportunity to host him for a week, travel to Michigan with him, and cap it all off with ECFC. He is a really special person and he has taught me a bunch.
Erik and Laura arrived and I knew it was almost time. I was still a mess but I knew I would have to pull it together soon for the drive.
Eventually it was time. I hugged Barrett goodbye and gave Derek a massive extra good hug. Somehow I said goodbye to Brian and avoided the ugly cry. I don’t even know how I managed that.
Navigating out of Brooklyn proved to be much better than our arrival on Friday. I was also getting used to the aggressiveness required to drive in NYC. I kinda like it actually. Erik gave me a break from driving in the middle for a couple hours. The break was definitely needed.
I ate out for the first time all weekend on the way back. Never has Subway tasted so marvellous.
I found myself lost in thought for much of the ride. Often smiling like an idiot about different memories. What a special time this has been.
WOOOO I did it! I thought this write up would never end. I think I still have some thoughts and things I forgot to mention.
I forgot to mention shredding with Matt Kemmer. Always such a pleasure. He makes me want to bust dense ass shit though and I just didn’t have it in me when we played together. Next time!
Coming super close to hitting rubberhuman for the second time.
Quality time with Ryan at the party Saturday night.
I feel a little guilty because I chose favourites at this event. I guess I went into it knowing there would be too many people and not enough time. As a result I prioritised who I would spend my time with. While I don’t necessarily have any regrets about this I definitely could have made more of an effort to get to know people that I wasn’t already familiar with and just take the time to talk to everyone. As I mentioned previously I think I let my introversion get the best of me and just stuck with the people I already knew. There is definitely some room for improvement here and being sick brought me down a bit as well. Apologies if you were one of the people I neglected to spend time with.
I’ve gone to so many events this year I think I’ve nearly got it down to a science. PB&J ftw.
Thanks for the great times ECFC<3

Re: Feminine Freestyle --- ECFC/NYC 2014 Complete!
Good writeup, it's been great reading lots of different perspectives from the event. I think the other thing for you is that you've been to a gazillion other events over the previous months, so you've probably met and kicked with most of the people at some stage, so it's best to spend some quality time with people that you don't see so often.
You've done really well to get to so many events, hopefully there'll be plenty more to come in the future!

Re: Feminine Freestyle --- ECFC/NYC 2014 Complete!
Thanks Daniel. There will surely be many more events in the future!
Had a 45 minute solo shred before yoga today. Being able to play in the gym while people are shooting hoops has been great. The surface is super decent and there is wifi to stream music. The basketball peepz don’t even acknowledge me which is fine.
It felt good to play but my energy store didn’t seem to last very long. I did get a handful of little highlights.
Pickup>DLO rpt. 18 contacts
Osis>Ripstein rpt. 6 contacts
Ripstein > catch > other side 6 contacts
Double Switch BSOS
Reaper (footed flip)
Yoga was awesome today! I got mermaid both sides and was the only one in the class that could manage to hold bird of paradise. Then there are the poses that should be easy but just hit me so hard after shredding. Basically anything where I have to extend my leg backwards is just brutal.
I’ve been super focused on posture and alignment lately. In footbag, stair climbing, and life in general. I think it’s starting to pay off.
Life is finally starting to feel back to normal. School things are back on track and I am almost back to 100% health. Finishing that write up was a massive weight lifted.

That was a great write up! It was great meeting you again at East Coasts Cassy! Good Hoola Hoop tricks as well! I still remember the time when I tried that... well, let's just say I decided to stick with freestyle soccer afterwards

Re: Feminine Freestyle ---
Thanks Khoa!
Really fun session today at Bahen with Jay and Erik! They both kick so much butt!
Flipside Neo Swirling Pickup
Fairy ss Osis>Ripstein bs
Pendulous Ripstein ending in Dragon
Zig Zag bs
I came really close to Swirling Gyro stuff.
The first 45 minutes or so was just Erik and I. I always enjoy shredding with him one on one. Then Jay arrived and we had a really enjoyable 3 man. Everyone seemed to be playing really well.
One of the highlights was when Jay was trying to explain Bent to Erik. He was like “here I have an exercise for you” and proceeded to lift his leg into the bent position and throw the bag on the ground under his leg. It was hilarious. You probably had to be there..
Erik had to get going and I continued shredding with Jay for a while. I also quite enjoy a good one on one with Jay so that was fun. Then we got sushi! Yum.
I said goodbye to Jay and spent some time wandering Kensington market. Saw some neat things. I love Toronto.
I’m really glad that session happened today! So great.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that bent demo! Haha. Jay
I wish I could have spent more time with you guys post-shred. I didn't realize it would be only out-of-towners! Next time

Re: Feminine Freestyle ---
Not ten minutes into my session today my shoulders spazzed out on me and it was quite painful. It pretty much killed the session for me and I just ended up chasing some new tricks. Here is the result.

Loving the fall colours around these parts lately.

Enjoying a chill 3 day Thanksgiving weekend

Props for all the new tricks Cassy! Great bothsidedness
Re: Feminine Freestyle ---
Props on the DLO >Pickup drill, I dig. What about Illusion >ss DLO for forever? Jealous of the Double Switch BSOS, and thanks for reminding me to do that! Quite the diversity and bothsidedness in your game. Nifty video, you are good.

Thanks Asmus!
Derek! I tried your illusion>ss DLO drill today. 12 contacts was my best. Not quite forever but thanks for the idea!
Shredded up the basketball court for over an hour this evening. Played in a pretty high traffic spot and got a decent amount of positive attention. One guy saw me doing floppy toe stalls and asked me if I could do two bags. It was cool to have a unique request like that. I managed to do a little two bag juggling without failing too hard so that was good.
I worked on phasing a bunch. I think I better understand it having done the set from inside. I’m clearing my set a lot more often on both sides now. I even footed Frankenstein today and came close several more times on both sides.
Some new tricks
Swirling Twirl bs
Swirling Blink bs
Flip Reaper
Drilled lots more stuff. Definitely a productive session. I also had a good stretch sesh after.
I just feel like mentioning the kickass hoop session I had yesterday! It was super awesome. I have so much more control now and I can do pretty much whatever I want with it. I even BSOSed duckouts a couple times yesterday! So much fun
Yesterday was my first yoga class without shredding beforehand. It was nice to go into it fresh and be able to put a full effort in.
Yay movement!

Re: Feminine Freestyle ---
What about reverse swirling xbd toe? I was mucking around with this today and thought of you. You might have already done it.
Re: Feminine Freestyle ---
I played footbag yesterday!
I tried out this rev swirl xbdy toe business. There is no chance I can do it static at this point but its pretty easy if I make it rakey.
Down the line I envision something like rev swirling xbdy toe rake>change direction into swixie something.
Or even like.. pendulous swixie rev swirling xbdy toe rake..rpt? Weird.
This is such a fun new concept and it wasn’t even very difficult to learn. Thanks Jay
This afternoon I was feeling pretty bummed and then I realised it was probably because I didn’t do any physical activity today [and also because I wont be going on any footbag adventures this weekend]. I didn’t shred today because that nagging injury from before has been bothering me a bit lately. Instead I went for a ~5K walk and then did some yoga. That just made all the difference in my mood. Perfect.
Fall is pretty. I think that Evan mentioning that he had never seen fall colours before he visited has made me appreciate them that much more this year. It’s easy to take things like that for granted. There’s nothing like stepping on a good crunchy leaf.

Next weekend there is a juggling festival in Kingston.
http://kingstonjugglers.club/fest/14/
The venue seems pretty sweet and it’s just a donation for admission. Looks like the Kingston crew is down (Dante, Greg, Derrick, and perhaps John Bagi!?) and there should also be some FAT attendance (Erik, Johnny?). Jay if you are reading this you should come out also! And anyone else I’ve missed for that matter.
Anyways I’m pretty stoked for that. Just going to drive down for a Saturday shred. Should be super fun! I bet there will be cool people there.
