Re: Allan's Footblog
If you want to write a few words to go a long with it and share this on BSOS.IT - I would be honored.

Re: Allan's Footblog
I have always liked that street/obstacle/parkour/whatever stuff. Coming from a skate/inline background, it makes sense to call it "street", but then footbag doesn't have a "park" element, so it doesn't really make so much sense. I think the parkour title could be a nice opportunity to get some people into footbag.
Don't forget the top 2 footbag videos are one from Felix Zenger, much more related to beatbox, and then the ~famous "footbag beauty" video, both at approx 1 million views.
Can't wait to see the video. I haven't worked on any of that stuff for a long time, I should get back into it. What do you think is the best/craziest trick you've done in this style. Have you ever done any trick while riding a skateboard?

Re: Footbag Parkour??
Thank you for the input, guys. It means a lot to me.
Nick, first of all: sorry about duping you with the top post thing; wasn't intentional, I just numbers bad. I'm not overly concerned about the haters (I've been publishing hacky videos too long for that to be true), but I was thinking that it might unnecessarily provoke strong reactions in some people that might otherwise have kept their mouths shut... fuck 'em, I guess
As for putting a link onto the end of the video, that's a good thing that I hadn't added. When I re-edit, I'll put something in there, for sure. I don't know exactly where I'll point to yet, but I'll put something in there.
@Asmus I'll write a lil somethin-somethin for bsos.it to go with the release, thanks
@boyle I hit blurry torque down a really steep/tall picnic bench once a few years ago while I wasn't recording. I've not ever tried anything like that when a camera isn't rolling since. That was probably my first "hard" 6 and likely my best. I hit inspinning osis off that little bench at SJFF in '04, but that almost doesn't count since the bench was teeny
My best is yet to come.
I've hit DATW on a skateboard, but nothing truly difficult. I'd love to do something where you've got to switch feet (e.g. smear), but I'm really getting too old for that (40 next year!). I've not really ridden a skateboard since I busted both my arms back in '11. I miss it soooo badly, but the breaks changed something about it for me at a very deep level and I'm not sure I'll ever get it back
I seem relatively convinced about footbag "parkour" at this point, but I think maybe I'll run it by Eliot first and see what he says...
Maybe I'll have time to find a new song this weekend and be able to release it. It's only 1 minute long and is a single session. Again, there's not, like, advanced combos in it or anything, but it looks nice
Thanks again, folks.
PS Hey, Feb. 1st is coming up! UYET!!!

Eliot says thumbs down on "parkour." Now I'm really torn. I think I might just use "obstacle." I dunno.

Re: Allan's Footblog
Did he give you any reason why you shouldn't use "Parkour"? As a member of the younger generation, I disagree with him and think "Parkour" is your best bet. There's nothing else that I could think of which would 1) make younger kids click on your "extreme hackysack video" (since "views" is what you're going for with this) or 2) verbally sound as appealing as "Parkour".. Parkour is also called "Free Running", but the term "Free Running Footbag" sorta makes me want to puke.
Re: Allan's Footblog
I liked Parkour or Trials more than the other adjectives so far. Trials is more accurate in my opinion, but parkour may get more views.
Re: Allan's Footblog
My 5 cents: Tag it with Parkour(and all the other ones) and name it Trials.

Re: Allan's Footblog
parkour footbag, street footbag, footbag trials...I think trials sounds the most bad ass. I agree with Asmus, Tag it with Parkour (and possibly street or any other name) and call it trials.
When I saw the video my first reaction was "Parkour doesn't really fit. It seems to me to relate more to street skateboarding."
Or if you're really going for views name it something absolutely ridiculous....ex. "*****@@@@INSANE HACKY SACK PARKOUR - STREET FOOTBAG TRIALS!!!@@@@!*****"

Re: Allan's Footblog
I've been very busy over the past couple of weeks. Sorry to have not responded properly in here and a couple of other places.
Thanks for the feedback on the naming. I like the recommendations to go with trials and just tag parkour.
I still don't know what to do about music. I might end up going to youtube and accepting the ads. It'd be nice to find cool free music and go through vimeo though. I'm almost thinking about not releasing the current video I have, since I'm running iPhone 6 now; it shoots at 240fps. Ripped symposium twirl last week:
I gotta get out more.

If you haven't looked around Jamendo.com, I'd give it a shot. They have a decent selection of royalty free music for videos. Sure, it doesn't have the appeal of mainstream hits, but that makes it perfect for background music.
Re: Allan's Footblog
I found new music right on Vimeo itself. It's not my favourite, but it'll do. To reiterate:
For what it's worth, I won't ever wear that shirt again while playing. I had no idea the wet parts would be so pronounced. It's a shame, as it kind of ruins the effect I was going for with the pants and big red bag...Allan wrote:Don't be too optimistic about the level of shred in this one; it's basically rehashing combos you've seen before. The main difference is the nice quality and the fact that I'm using a big red bag in a rather beautiful setting, so it's leaps and bounds better than what's out there already quality-wise, just not really shred-wiseThis will be Part 1 as a sort of "where we've been" warm-up video that's more accessible to non-shredders, with Part 2 as more of a "where we're going" video with hopefully more advanced combos.

Can you say 50 Shades of Haggett?! Dig the Ripwalk up, and Superfly down. Can't wait for part deux.

Wow, just watched that video. Loved it. Good location, the shirt and attire was nice, and so was the bag. Didn't really notice the pit stains till I read your post about them. Part 2 ought to be dope!
I was distracted a bit by the ghosting in slow motion - is that because you filmed at a low frame rate, or is that an editor feature trying to blend frames together? I might be the only one who noticed it, so probably not a big deal.

Good shuffle. I got dizzy watching that spinning combo.
I hate bad form and I'm a hypocrite.

Nice stuff Mr. Kenneth
How many 5s have you done in a row?

Re: Allan's Footblog
I've hit 8 consecutive unique 5s:Asmus wrote:How many 5s have you done in a row?
Ripped Warrior > Ripped Warrior > Blurry Whirl > Blurry Whirl > Blurriest > Blurriest > PS Whirl > PS Whirl ... that was 7-8 or so years ago now. I can do 5-65 consistently these days, but it's not something I care about or school at all. It'd be nice to hit 10 maybe someday, but that's not likely. I've done 12 blurry whirls though, so that's something
We played last night. I hit whip (reverse whirl) on my flip side for the first time. Ever. Weird, huh? Then I hit it again a bunch of times, BSOS and all that. I don't necessarily own it now, but I'm getting there
At the end of the session I did 276 consecutive osis. I did 300, like, 10 years ago, but haven't really tried since then. My ankles are quite sore today!
Footbag!!
Re: Allan's Footblog
Happy Modified Day
Happy New Theme Day! New Logo Day! FOUR TWENTY! (not that I do that any more)
Played today for a while. Hit sailing legover and my very first flip bigwalk. I've half-heartedly been schooling surging for the last session or two. It's fun. I was actually likely one of the first people to hit surging anything back in, like, 2000. I had a few sessions when I was hitting it basically perfectly on one side. I had visions of ducking torqu'ing it, but at some point I just totally lost it and started pulling it through, so I stopped doing it completely and basically forgot about it. I shouldn't have done that. It's fun.
Yeah.

Re: Allan's Footblog
Just a quick update. Been playing a bit, but kind of sucking. My digression into poor physical fitness continues. I'm over 90kg
It's still way fun though, so it's not as if I'll ever stop playing
Took my skateboard out to a little park the other day for the first time in a couple of years. It was fun. On the way home I grabbed a bus, and as I sat down, some kid looked at me quizzically and asked "so how old are you that you're still skateboarding?" He wasn't trying to offend or anything, and I didn't take it that way. I told him I'd be 40 in 6 months and he seemed stoked and told me to keep it up.
I've started working in earnest on a new footbag project that's piqued my interest. I've got a lot on my plate right now, but this project is a) a long time coming, b) needed by the community, and c) helping me learn a new technology. It's actually based upon and inspired by a project that's public right now ... cryptic enough for you?
I honestly am not sure if it'll ever even get released, but if it works out, I imagine it'll get released in the next month or two.
I'm stoked on seeing some fresh activity around here and hope the trend continues
