I kicked last Thursday and Friday, although not too much happening. Yesterday, Friday, I hit:

left i-o atw x 50
left toe stall x 50

and maybe some other stuff, but it was kind of a slow sesh since I was tired from the week's phd-ing and whatnot. I can feel the habit of drilling left i-o atws developing since I am forcing myself to do them more, and my goal is to hit 1,000, maybe by the end of Feb, or 1st week of March. Picturing myself not having a weak left toe makes me feel good, and makes me think that footbag will be much better; I feel bad only hitting things on one side.

I am going to post some more thoughts in the New Lavers thread I started.

I played the remaining weekdays since I last posted, anywhere from 30 mins to 1 hour each time.

Regarding my 1000 left i-o atws, I only did 50 more, bringing my total up to 300. Thinking about them like this makes me realize how little I practice them. I should be doing them every session, without question. I can feel they are getting better though, and with week 8 LOTW, I will really be tested. Great.

I hit another challenge, and it only took a couple of years for me to actually get on it:
 barfly > stepping ss clip > gybas bs

On Feb 26th, I also did:
op inside delay x 100
op toe delay x 100

On Feb 27th, I did:
op toe kick x 100
I also realized my right foot gyro spinning sucks.

I may play today even though it is Saturday and I have been taking the weekends off. If I do kick, I will do another 100 left i-o atws.

I made it to Toronto and had a sesh today with Erik (he just filmed), Cass and JJ. Good balanced shred from Cass with a sprinkle of aggression, unique concepts and links from JJ, and I hit:

<EDIT>
Firewalk (symp blazing op butter)
</EDIT>
3-bag juggling x 30 contacts, a new PR

I haven't shredded with a female in years and years, wish I got to do it more. Thanks Cass!

Hoping to meet up with them next Friday or Saturday for one more sesh before I leave Toronto.

Whirl walk is Blazing far Whirl so I know its not frontside whirl walk, but i'm not sure what it would be called.
Edit: Props on 30 contacts of 3 bag. That's tough.

Jeez, I'm a bit out of shape on move names...so I checked and here are the results:

Firewalk (ADD 5)
Flaring Butterfly
Symposium Blazing Butterfly
Clip > (no plant while) Op Front Whirl (DEX)(BOD) >> Op Out (DEX) > Op Clip (XBD)(DEL)

So I will edit that last post accordingly. Thanks for calling me out!

I have been having a great time in Canada. I met up with Erik and Cass a couple of times each for shred. It feels so good to play with other people, and Cass and I had great sessions, and hugs. Erik took some footage of me, and also used Cass' camera to take footage on the first day. Meeting them really got my motivation going to better myself in footbag. I hope I can meet up with them soon, hopefully at worlds...

Incredible how I can not write in here for a year.

I am now just over 3 years into my PhD. I am kicking regularly at about 5 times a week, for about 40 mins on average, not including stretching before and after. In addition, I hack with Floyd, Liam, and sometimes Todd about once or twice a week. I have just received sponsorship (unofficial until tomorrow or so) from Victoria University of Wellington to compete and judge at that Japan Footbag Champs this year (circle contest is the only event I can compete in since living in Japan is a pre-req for competition). I have been stitching more often than not, experimenting with new patterns. I am hoping that hungry shredders in Japan will support me by buying some so my bank account doesn't take a really big hit when I travel to Japan. The university is giving me 1500 NZD which is a plane ticket from Wellington to Japan, with a little left over which I try to use wisely.

In terms of practicing, I am trying to change my game to incorporate both sides. It has been perhaps 8 years since I have noticed by left toe being significantly weaker than my right. It is really difficult to consistently train it, but things I have been including in sessions are:

1. two bag juggling, one on each foot & two on one
2. i-o atws
3. mirages
4. pixie op toe
5. ducking op toe

I think it is helping; I can feel a difference from before, however I have a long way to go. That is one great thing about footbag: the process of improving. I hope I never get sick of that.

In short, kickin regularly, feeling strong. Will film soon; I want to restore my phone, or at least take all of the pictures off, but running Linux makes that a bit more difficult (i.e., lazy?).

Love you.

Here are some pics of the footbags I have made recently.

I was just going to ask how the sponsorship went when I saw your name pop up. That's so good, good to hear you're getting some hacks in with some of those old NZ blokes too. Do they ever shred anymore? Hopefully that could be a turn in the tides of money going into footbag. You hear a lot of people in the footbag community complaining that there is no money boo hoo, but you hear of very few people actively trying to go out and actually get some sponsorships or other funding, so congrats on that.

They don't really shred anymore as they have gotten old (at least that is what they say, but we are the same age). Liam will do a trick here and there, but that is about it.

Thanks a lot. Once it becomes official I will update the sponsorship thread as to how I did it. That would be really great if this was a turning point indeed.

Just old in the mind, there are plenty of people older than them still shredding hard.

Kicked yesterday for about 40 minutes, then did some pull-ups.

I mostly worked on toe stuff, like left-toe atws, and pixie stuff. I have started learning how to use my body on flip the same way I do on strong-side stuff, i.e., magic-hop straight up and down, and also trying to keep my left toe close to my body. It tends to go out and away from me.

I felt pain in my left hip and I think it is because I have a habit of setting my left foot toe stuff while looking from the outside of my left leg...no good! Fix it!

Will play today around 3pm. Looking forward to it.

I have still been playing consistently, roughly five times a week for upwards of an hour. Thank you footbag!

In sad news, I lost a great footbag that I made recently. I was kicking, and somehow forgot to grab it as I left, and now it is gone. Someone just got a dope-ass bag. Looks like I will be breaking in another bag from today!

I kicked today for about 45 minutes at the rec center. It was great, as usual.

I recorded most of the session, stopping the recording each time I did something more than just a couple of kicks or consecs. Here is one:
I decided to take my shred notebook with me, finally. I started it like 6 or 7 years ago. The first page has a bunch of drills on it, many of which were completed. I chose one of the ones that wasn't completed and set that as my goal for today. I ended up hitting it: drifter > swirl > torque > rpt.
Looking forward to more modified activity!

Glad you like it Assy!

So I kicked today for about 45 minutes at the gym.

Here are a few clips from the beginning of the session. I like the link at the end.

Looks like my left toe is getting better. I want to be symmetric!

Will work on the resolution in future vids...
