I'm a little turned off by your negative/pessimistic statement, Ken. I have heard it helps people, but doesn't help others... Two reasons why I decided to go against what you posted:

1) I like to try things myself, rather than JUST take people's words for it.
2) I NEEDED something. If there is a simple CHANCE that a pill could work, I'll try it. And honestly, maybe it's a placebo effect (though I doubt it) but my knee feels great right now after almost a week of taking these. My knee was cracking and popping like crazy and it HURT just to cushion clippers.. until a few days ago. No popping/cracking/pain now. If you think it's bullshit, please keep it to yourself. It works for me so far, so I'd like to keep ingesting these pills and see how it goes.

Anyway, tonight, I took some stills for Hogan for the badges that he can make into silhouettes. Stoked on that.

After the photo shoot, I hadn't planned on playing, but I realized I just needed a bag and I would be playing footbag. I had on shorts and lavers and a t-shirt.. bang. Grabbed a bag. Initiated session..

Highlights:

 Drilled Sidewalk> Pdx Whirl> Rev Swirl *rpt
 Also drilled Rev Swirl> Ripwalk *rpt
 Pdx Torque> Vortex bs .. I think I can rpt that soon.
 Vortex> Spinning Symp Swirl bs! Really proud of that one.
 One of the dopest sandwich drills I've ever hit.. Would like to get good at this one and hit it in a future video to some cool stuff.. Gyro Whirl> Gyro Muted Reverse Swirl> Gyro Muted Reverse Swirl> Gyro Whirl I was kind of at total peace when I hit that. Couldn't have done this one without Mark Monistere's help. You'll find that out soon...

Strung a little bit tonight. I've been getting like... kind of good. It's cool to feel that happening to me. Those Pdx Torques> Vortexes were really effortless. I can see myself hitting stuff like those links midstring. By spring, you'll see a new player, I think.

I'm out. Later.

I would like to chime in here. I think you need to be really careful about taking those sorts of things. The most important reason is that, while it may stop the cracking/pain etc., it may not be dealing with the cause of the pain. By feeling no pain anymore, you might think that everything is good, but if you are still doing the things that caused the pain in the first place, then is the problem really solved? It's almost like the supplements are masking the pain, so you think it's fine, but a bad toe set is a bad toe set (just exampling, not suggesting). Personally, my knees/shins/lower back/etc have stopped cracking/popping/hurting/etc., since I

1. Started eating healthy
2. Started stretching everyday, in addition to pre/post shred
3. Started cross-training (weightlifting)
4. Started practicing good form (which still has a long way to go...)

I starting kicking (mostly hack and single tricks like atw) in high school, circa 1996, have been playing fairly consistently since then, and am 33 this year with no pain as you have mentioned. I agree that individual differences exist, but to me the above makes more sense than supplements.

If you ask me, it sounds like you need some good old-fashioned form critique. I bet we could rip you apart and find some things that could help stop the pain naturally, and help you push yourself to a higher level of shred.

Also, while I am thinking of it, and I know this is your blog, but telling someone to keep something like this to themselves is not how we push forward. Keeping it real and being honest is what does. Getting advice from someone like Ken, who has been in the game for longer than both of us, is nothing short of an honor and something that makes this community unique. I think people should be opening up and letting a fellow footbagger know if something is bothering them, especially if it has the potential to help oneself, as well as the other members who happen to read your blog. I would much rather get torn apart by a top-level player than by someone who doesn't know what they are talking about.

Hope this helps, and this was written from a friend to a friend. Not trying to be offensive in any way. :)

Tj, I appreciate your concern but the reason why I was a little upset about Ken's post is that we already talked about this subject in the Facebook group. Everyone have their opinion when I asked about any positive experiences with joint supplements, including Ken, who was obviously against it, which was fine. I decided to agree with some of the people that were advocates of it. Can't please everyone at the same time.. I respect your opinion, Ken, but I just ask that you respect my decision.

There's no written law that keeps me from experimenting. I understand you're both just trying to help me, but I'd like to try the supplements out for at least 2 months, then decide if it's really with it to keep taking them.

On top of this, I know that I can't just take supplements and expect my knee to get better.. And I realized that my big zooming links are what caused me this pain. I took some time and have been fixing my spins. So far so good, but I still have work to do on them.

Maybe I took too much offense to Ken's post, but I'm a sensitive person, and quite frankly I'm so sick and fucking tired of being the nucleus of footbag controversy.
I just want to play footbag with my friends, TEACH footbag, and preferably not die before I turn 30.

Just to reiterate, I'm not upset at either of you. I know you were just trying to help me. Thanks for caring enough to call me out.

I'd like to see Pdx Torque > Vortex, if you can get it on camera that would be awesome. Feel like it would flow nicely. 8)

Glad to see you're back and pain free. Glucosamine is kind of expensive though, which is unfortunate.
No idea whether that stuff works. I tried researching it, there's studies showing it works and studies showing it doesn't do anything. Confusing stuff.

I apologize for the poor choice of top-post picture. Perfect storm of:

1. Seeing top post was available
2. Being in a hurry
3. Being surprised/annoyed Nick is spending hope/money on something that's been scientifically disproven

Add them up and I made a top post that wasn't as diplomatic as it should have been. This was also compounded by me making the post, and then being off modified for the next 3 days. I feel like the guy who cuts a vicious fart on the bus right before disboarding. I apologize for the bad form.

I hope you figure out a solution to your knee pain. I would suggest re-evaluating your form on rev swirls/blinks. Sometimes your foot comes really high up on them (heel by hip) which can make them "the," but more importantly places a lot of strain on the knee: If you look at Evan's twirls/revups/rev swirls, you'll see his foot stays lower, usually with the heel only coming up above the knee.

I see so much potential in you Nick, which is why I want to see you succeed so badly. I see a lot of similarities between you and myself when I was your age. Because of that, when I see you making similar mistakes to ones I made, I try and nudge you in the right direction. Ultimately though you are free to make your own decisions, and I don't want to cause you stress with my unsolicited advice.

I look forward to playing with you at our next tourney. No hard feelings.

Ken: F*&@ YOU! jk dude :D No harm done. I totally know what you mean. I got hurt several times and I always try to keep others from going down the same shitty path I went down. Thanks for pointing that out. I really appreciate what you said in the last paragraph. That was nice of you. I've always liked you. Don't worry about any of this. Water under the bridge :)

Here's a video Nathan made of our session last week. Not ground breaking.. well, not from me, but Nathan hit some awesome stuff. Proud on some of the Fearless Sick 3's, though, and that Whirling Clouddigger aka Shatnerring ss Torque lol.
Also, the other day my highlights:

Highlights:

 Super smooth Mobius> Pdx Blink bs. Love that link.
 Paradon Swirl bs (new on both)
 Barfly Swirl bs!!!!Strongside and Flipside What a dream trick..

Got some great stuff today. That video might come out in the future, whenever Nathan feels like editing.

Good night!

I thought you were tired of being in the middle of controversy? What on earth would possess you to post garbage like this? Do you actually find this funny?

I really hope you're not serious, but if you are you should probably aim a little higher. You can do comedy without being a piece of shit.

Of course I'm serious, being a blatantly sexist, racist, obnoxious, not funny douche bag is how you get big in the comedy world, right? /End sarcasm

I don't understand how anyone could take that post seriously.

I really am trying to avoid controversy... But it's become apparent that you're searching for it.. That's fine. Just please try to refrain from searching for it in my blog and leave me out of it.

Please don't post in my blog anymore or reply to any of my posts. If you really have a problem with something I post, take it up with me in a private message, please. There's no reason to leave little negative energy fecal pellets in here, unless you really have that much of a problem with me. And if you do have that much of a problem with me, then why are you reading my blog anyway?

In actual footbag news, I'm playing with Bonslaver and Ivan after work today. Pretty excited.

Posting blatantly offensive shit "sarcastically" does not make it funny. It's still ugly and offensive. The fact that you find it amusing is also offensive. You are the reason for any negative energy coming your way.

Why do I read your blog? Because you're a prominent member of a community that I care deeply about. It sucks to see people with such influence use it in such a negative way.

come on cassy, posting a silly vid in your blog is hardly controversial. I think the shitty-ness of this vid was nick’s intention. it’s so bad it’s on a bob saget level or something. i didn’t finish it because it sucked but i can’t see how anyone would let something so silly offend them.

Okay so maybe I overreacted a little but if you actually take the time to watch the video through you will find that it contains some really offensive shit about women and gay people. Watching it honestly ruined my morning and I really just don't understand the motivation behind posting something so gross. Especialy coming from someone who doesn't have the best track record when it comes to discussions on these topics. Why not post a video that is ACTUALLY FUNNY that is something that you aspire to rather than posting something so ugly because it's what you are afraid of?

I'm sorry I even opened this blog today and I'm done with this discussion.

Peace.

Let me get this straight:

You posted a video of a:
F[uns]tylin' Eclectic wrote: blatantly sexist, racist, obnoxious, not funny douche bag
And when someone says they're offended by it you get offended? I know you and Cass don't have a great history with this sort of thing, but she was completely right to call you on this. You didn't even warn people that the video contained such language and bullshit; not even a "NSFW" ... I started to watch it at work. Thankfully I'm not too stupid and didn't press play when anyone was around to hear it.
F[uns]tylin' Eclectic wrote: I don't understand how anyone could take that post seriously.
I don't understand why you'd post it in the first place. You said it yourself: it's not funny and contains blatantly offensive material that clearly go against the very simple and plain policies of this forum:
While coarse language is permitted derogatory remarks regarding religion, race, nationality, gender, sexuality and physical/mental disability will not be tolerated. Such remarks will be edited or deleted.
Kevin, I don't know what your definition of "silly" is, but that video was very far from being silly.

This is literally the first post I've moderated (for content) in over 4 years as the admin on here :(

Does youtube not have a pause button in America? That's like me going into a Nut Shop and complaining that I have a nut allergy and they should close that shop.

The video wasn't even offensive. Also, now that everyone is scared to write anything because of you getting offended by everything, you have to go to people's blogs and be offended by what they write there.

I still remember the hateful PMs Cass sent me after I politely disagreed with her in her blog, while she was insulting my friend. She used some very awful language, but among it also told me that I should never tell her what she should and should not write in her blog.
That seems a bit hypocritical now, doesn't it?

Now that I read those messages again, she also said some blatantly sexist things to me, and even question my sexuality. While I do not get offended, I do think the admins are picking the wrong side, yet again. While Nick has done nothing wrong and contributes a lot to our society, you keep supporting toxic individuals that do nothing for us.

If you're an admin and you can read through people's PMs, you should check what she sends to people. The one person who is most 'offended' by sexism is the one who spews it the most.

That's a very poor analogy. It's more like going into a shop that states in various places that they don't serve nuts, and then having them serve you nuts.

As a community, over the past decade+ of discussion here on this forum, we've come up with some clear and simple guidelines about what is considered appropriate and responsible content. These are not hard to understand. People may forget themselves from time to time, and that's fine. That's what moderators are for. It doesn't need to blow up into a "CENSORSHIP!!!" argument every time where people get upset and say things they don't mean.
Add Block wrote:The video wasn't even offensive.
Whether or not you were offended is not germane to this situation. I most certainly was offended. I get offended by homophobes and BS like this guy was spouting. I'm not ashamed of this. But this is completely irrelevant too. Nick himself acknowledged in plain language that the video was blatantly offensive in multiple ways; ways that are detailed in the rules for exactly this sort of situation. Just because you have a thick skin and find hate-speech funny or whatever, does not mean that all of us do, or that we have to abide by your definition of offensiveness. The community as a whole decided this sort of content shouldn't get played. It's that simple. Apparently you missed that discussion, or failed to prove your point effectively enough for it to affect the consensus.
Add Block wrote: Also, now that everyone is scared to write anything because of you getting offended by everything,
Hyperbole. Nobody is scared. People should think about what they're posting and whether or not it will violate the rules. If they can't do that they'll get moderated and eventually banned of they're just being jerks about it.

This isn't personal. The rules are clear and unambiguous. The video in question clearly and unambiguously violated them. Period.
Add Block wrote: I still remember the hateful PMs Cass sent me after I politely disagreed with her in her blog,
Private messages versus public posts. You know well that there's an obvious difference.
Add Block wrote:While I do not get offended, I do think the admins are picking the wrong side, yet again. While Nick has done nothing wrong and contributes a lot to our society, you keep supporting toxic individuals that do nothing for us.
You sure sound offended, but whatever. Again, this isn't a personal thing. The only side I've picked here is the rules. If you've got a problem with the rules, cruise on over to the meta forum and start a discussion about how you think people should be able to post hate-speech under the guise of stand-up "comedy." Lobby to have the rules changed instead of making irrelevant personal attacks and speaking hyperbole about how freedoms are being restricted unnecessarily.
Add Block wrote: If you're an admin and you can read through people's PMs, you should check what she sends to people.
First of all, I would never, ever do this in a million years. The system doesn't allow it, and if it did, I'd disable it. I'd have to dump the database and manually comb through it to do this. Yuck.

Again, there is obviously a massive difference between public and private discussion, so I have no idea why you bring this up here other than to smear Cass. This is unnecessary.

I like Nick a lot. I like Cass too. I like you too, Vojta. I wish this didn't have to be a thing. I hope we can just move on from here without a bunch of bad feelings. Play footbag!!

Thanks.

I'll do a better analogy then.

Imagine a huge market, where people can sell stuff, but not nuts, nuts are forbidden. There's a few stalls where people sell nuts anyway, because there is a demand for them. It doesn't hurt anyone, because people who don't like nuts can just avoid these stalls. Everyone knows there are stalls that sell nuts, but no one cares because some people want to buy them and people who don't can avoid them. That's Youtube.

You're right that people are now thinking about what they write, because they don't want to offend anyone. But you are wrong to assume people are not scared. Nobody wants to be in another wave of Cassandra's wrath.

I don't know how you could say I'm offended, when written text has no tone of voice. 'Getting offended' is just a way for people to get more than their fair share of attention, that concept is purely destructive.

I understand you're on the side of the rules. I don't want to change them, I just wish people wouldn't follow them blindly.
I hate bad form and I'm a hypocrite.

Hi,

I think Allan is right:
Allan wrote:As a community, over the past decade+ of discussion here on this forum, we've come up with some clear and simple guidelines about what is considered appropriate and responsible content. This is the most objective way that I have read so far of how to handle situations like this. These guidelines are something that have been developed by the community over many years, and it makes sense to stick to them.

You all come from a community of the hands-down coolest people in the world, and I personally feel closer to all of you than to most people I come into contact with, even some on a daily basis, regardless of whether you and I have met or not, and it's too bad that a situation like this has made it onto the forums.

Also, Vojta, I think written text does have a 'tone of voice'. Compare the following:

1. Nobody wants to be in another wave of Cassandra's wrath.
2. Nobody wants to make Cass angry.

To me, these both mean basically the same thing, however the tone of the first one is more offensive and/or aggressive, while the second says the same thing, but most likely without offending Cass.

Hope this helps get this conversation on a positive path.
