Ben: Thanks for reading. Not too sure really, some time next year? Halloween?

Been about 10 days since my last "session" with Matt. Session in quotes because I could only really play for like 10 minutes. So haven't played footbag for over an hour since Jamps. So I bought some compression braces that had good reviews on amazon, gonna see how I feel in them when they come in. I have a tentative kick date for May 13th which would be about a month since Jamps. I'll try to have some sessions before then to see how I'm feeling. Also gonna look into a lot more stretches for shin splints, although stretching that particular area is a strange feeling. In the meantime though I'll just have to focus on other things. I want to excel at footbag more than I want to breathe. Willing to do anything necessary to get back into it as soon as possible.

Had a short session today. It was successful - successful meaning after 30 minutes of Clippers my legs still felt fine. Felt good to finally kick again. Compression braces got to my house today too, should be going home by Monday after finals week is over. Will have another short session on Tuesday to try them out hopefully. Small list of highlights for now:
Ss clipper x5 right x4 left
Clipper > Ss clipper > rpt op x1
Clipper Ss leg over > leg over > leg over > rpt op x1

Clippers felt surprisingly good. They're definitely catching up to my toe game. Now to work on Illusions, ugh :P

Great to hear your legs are better. Remember, always play on your toes.. like, I should be able to slide a piece of paper wander your heel as you're shredding. Good luck man.

Thanks Polini. Will keep that in mind. I'm thinking about trying a session on softer ground like grass instead of concrete. I don't know, I'll experiment a bit with my session on Monday. Also will have my compression braces at that point as I will be home by then. We'll see how it goes.

Not much to report. Finals week, sucks, etc. Semester's almost over. Shaved my head for St. Baldricks Foundation. It's weird how cold the top of my head is now. That's about it. Peace and love <3

Oh hey! I finally just read your PSU writeup! It was a fun read :D

I was thinking that some of your muscle issues might be exacerbated by an electrolyte deficiency, specifically magnesium. One really easy and cost effective way to supplement this is to take Epsom salt baths. Just a thought.

Cass: Thanks, was enjoyable to write it all out. Glad you liked it. That may be entirely possible, I'll look in some vitamin or dietary supplements that contain magnesium, see if that helps. Perhaps understandably, I'd rather not have to bath my whole body in salt several times a week :P Thanks!

Well it's been a while Modified. I've been away from the whole blogging thing but I've still been kicking on a semi-regular basis. Currently working on expanding my Clipper game, which has been improving nicely over the course of the last couple months or so. Starting to take some baby steps towards Illusions with some Orbit drills Matt taught me. Besides that, things are cool I guess. Home for the summer which is a nice change of pace from writing research papers and other academia related activities.

Gonna try to get some sort of job with my local government in town, would be convenient in terms of travel and ease of access I suppose. Got some volunteer stuff lined up with the Historic Preservation department/ committee as well so that should be interesting.

But yea, footbag. Drilling Clippers hard recently and it's paying off. Some highlights from the past couple weeks:

 Clipper to SS Legover > Legover > Legover BSOS
 Legover > SS Mirage > Clipper > Paradox Mirage starting from BS
 Clipper > Opposite Clipper > Near Mirage BSOS
 Clipper to SS Legover > Pickup > Legover BSOS

Pretty much what I've been doing for the past few weeks. Also had a dope ass sesh with Kemino today. It's always very enjoyable even if we don't play to the best of our abilities on any given day. We joke around a lot but we also go hard and push each other to hit sick shit. Today's session was pretty much perfect both in terms of weather conditions and performance for both of us. Some highlights:
 Clipper Far Legover > SS Butterfly > Near Mirage BSOS

Matt: That will take you a long way.
Me: Breathing?
Matt: No, a strong foundation... Breathing too though.

 Butterfly > SS Butterfly > Paradox Mirage starting from BS
 Clipper > SS Clipper > Paradox Mirage BSOS

Me: Cloud coverage yesss. Thank you Poseidon or whatever god is in charge of that shit.
Matt: ... Probably Zeus.
Me: Oh yea...

 Paradox Mirage > Symph Mirage from left Clipper

Was mad dope. We met this guy Sean at the library, interesting dude. Started talking to us and suddenly just switched from topic to topic really fast. Like one second he was talking about all the movies and actors he liked, next he was asking if we knew about the Marines Corps or if we liked reading books. Nice guy though. Suppose you get all sorts of people around a public library.

I went for a bike ride the other day that turned into a 3 hour adventure. I'll post pictures at some point. Basically went all the way around this lake at my house, ended up being 10 or 11 miles. My ass hurt for like a day afterwards, was totally not prepared lol. I scrapped off a good chuck of my knee against the railguard at one point, was gnarly. Need to get some of those padded biking shorts or a more comfy seat or something. Biking is nice though, very easy on my legs unlike some footbag stuff.

My muscles haven't been acting up that much recently, which gives me some hope for future summer shred. Hope it stays like this, I was on point today. Gonna try to get into a tentative shred schedule of Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, with biking or something else in between. Need to stop eating garbage, it's affecting my stamina for shred, plus you know all the health benefits too. But mostly for footbag. That's about it for now, have a nice day everyone. :footbag::footbag:

It's been an eventful few days. Just going to quickly sum them up and outline my goals for the next couple months.

Went to my brother's graduation over the weekend. He got both a bachelors and masters degree in a five year program in computer science / computer engineering. One of those anyways I think. He's already got a job lined up with the company he co oped with during school, so that's pretty cool.

Sunday I had the wonderful fortune to come back home and shred with not only Kemslice but Ivan and Ryan from PSU as well. They are a pleasure to kick with, as well as just hanging out/ joking around. More unfortunately though I couldn't really hang out past shred time as I had to get home for dinner. But we played for close to 4 hours and it was a very rewarding feeling of soreness the next couple days after. Matt suggested some Toe SS Clipper drills to take me out of my regular comfort zone. It definitely paid off by the end of the session. Ryan was working on some cool stepping and ducking stuff and Ivan on I think Atomics and whatever that Pickup type of Butterfly move is called. Whirr or something? No idea. Anyway, I think that's what he was doing. Shred was generally a success for me; got some nice runs of decent length that were for the most part tiltless.

Today I worked a bit on conquering my mortal enemy up to this point: Illusions. It's that time of footbag development again where I have put other stuff on the back burner for a while to fully devote myself to learning a new trick concept. Tried out some modified Orbit drills ending on the opposite toe as well as some attempts at the general movement. Matt gave me some advice which I'll use to hopefully really stick a few good ones BS in the next couple sessions to come. In general he said to dex more with my calf and to also commit to a lower height for the dex overall.

Had a pretty decent sesh with Matt El Kematador Kemizzle Kemmer today. A few very solid runs that felt good and clean. I sometimes get frustrated that I can't keep up tiltless runs for too long, just have to remind myself that it will come in time and just enjoy all the cool links and drills I can practice instead. Speaking of links, I have a new obsession with Butterflies and wanna work towards getting a new dream link Butterfly > SS Butterfly > Paradox Mirage first BS then BSOS. Can see myself hitting it in the new few weeks amongst other stuff. But yea, footbag links today(BSOS):
Ss butter > near mirage
Ss butter > far legover
Leg over > Ss butter > Paradox Mirage > Mirage

Also some fairys (not the set, the orbit drill ending on op toe) on both sides. Illusions are new top priority.

If anyone has any cool links or drills for me to try involving butterflies or clippers in general, feel free to post them, I'd love to try them out.

Things I'm very comfortable with:
Legovers
Mirages

Things I'm somewhat consistent with (can hit a few in a row most of the time:
Clippers
Things out of or into Clipper
Pickups

That's all for now. Scoping out a rec center tomorrow for potential shred sessions in the future. Will update soon.

I remember well how stupid illusions can feel when you're trying to learn them. Keep at it! They will come. Try pointing your toe more? Your leg looks kinda floppy. You want that shiz to be tight.

A drill to work towards:

ss Clipper>Bubba rpt>Butterfly>Pdx Illusion rpt

Cass: Yea they're pretty weird for me so far. Still struggling to get one. Thanks for the tip, I'll have to keep that in mind. Probably gonna be a while before I can hit that one but I'll remember it for the future.

-----

Haven't really blogged (? Is this a verb cuz it is now lol) in a while. Not much to report. Illusions still suck. Pickups getting kinda better. Clippers much more solid. Starting to slack on Legovers and Mirages now that I can just do them on command whenever. Matt has to remind me sometimes to put more effort into everything. Speaking of Matt, there's been something of a reversal in our behaviors recently. He's the one pushing for more solo and duo sessions while I'm just struggling for a few days after one duo session a week. The pain in my lower legs has not yet subsided, although it has finished somewhat to the point where I can play for a good two hours with Matt without too much trouble. It's very frustrating and upsetting to my progression to only be at 75% capacity most of the time. Part of the reason why I haven't been blogging is just because I don't want to spread negativity around in such a vibrant and positive atmosphere like Modified. I really just want to have multiple solo sessions a week with a session with Matt every weekend or so, but my current condition is not really allowing it so far. As per Cassys suggestion, I've been taking some dietary supplements of calcium and Mg. At the very least I figure it'll help out with bine strength. We'll see what happens in the next couple weeks. I feel like I'm just at a weird point where I'm not sure if I want to push further and harder or pull back and take a decent break from footbag. If its just that my muscles aren't used to such strain and could be built up over time, then pushing more would probably help. But if there's another issue underlying the problem then it might be in my best interest to take a good long break from footbag. Oh well, only time and more sessions will tell I suppose. Gonna try to aim for at least two or three hours of FB this week excluding my session with Matt. Hopefully it will be manageable. A year is a long time to be doing something, and by the end of summer I can pretty confidently say I've played footbag actively for a whole year. I think that's very interesting and cool. Up until very recently I didn't really think of myself as an actual footbagger, but now it's definitely a part of who I am as a person. Don't really know any deep philosophical explanations for it, but I can say that I like footbag and have no intentions to quit anytime. Sorry for any grammatical and / or formatting errors in this post, typing this up on my phone before bed. Will provide another update in a few days with things unrelated to footbag. Also sorry for being for being such a negative Nancy, tried to end on a positive note. Play footbag, be happy, enjoy life! <3

Had a productive session today with minimal pain or aches. It was somewhat unique of last in that it was my first "real" session in a couple weeks (1 hour or more) and I played without using my compression braces. Dedicated all of my time to various pickup drills. Matt suggested not focusing too much on solely just getting things BSOS, but rather consistently starting from BS as well. As such, all of these drills are both starting from BS as well as BSOS, with the exception of the last one which is only BS. Pick-ups have been a weaker component of my game for a while so I'll probably focus a bit more on them in the future:

 Pick-up > SS Pick-up
 Pick-up > SS Legover
 Pick-up > SS Muted Mirage
 Mirage > Pick-up > SS Legover
 Butterfly > SS Pick-up
 Pick-up > SS Butterfly > SS Pick-up

Last one was a bit too tricky for me at the moment to nail down bsauce. Kemdawg also suggested focusing on easier drills with longer repetitions to build up consistency and endurance. Hopefully a few of these will serve that purpose in future sessions. Matt is much better at coming up with links and drills than I am. I guess nine years of footbag does that to you... Need to starting coming up with a list of things to hit for sessions later on. El Kemino is a good sensei to learn from.

Another successful pick-up sesh without compression braces. Played for about an hour on different links/ combos. BSOS unless otherwise stated:
 5 Clipper > Near Pickup
 5 Pickup > Mirage (1 string with two repeats for 8 contacts)
 5 Pickup > SS Legover (1 string with two repeats for 8 contacts)
 Butterfly > Far Pickup > SS Mirage
 Clipper to Far Legover > Pickup
 SS Toe Clipper to Far Legover > Pickup starting from BS
 Butterfly > Far Legover > Pickup starting from BS

Tolerable amount of discomfort. Legs were feeling strong today. All 4 n0w.

Played on Sunday for an hour. Nothing in particular, just tried to push some PRs. Little amount of discomfort, legs felt pretty good.
5 mirage > Ss muted mirage > mirage > Ss muted mirage x2
1 of those x4 (16 contacts)
Clipper x8 right, x9 left
Butterfly > butterfly
Gonna work on getting that last one to infinity > infinity idk how to denote it but that above drill x2
Pickups getting stronger, more comfortable throwing them down mid string. Clippers looking better as well. Haven't played with Kemino in a while like 2 weeks or something. Weird.

This is my shred spot location for anyone curious:
Image

Some kids came up to me while I was playing at the local park and started asking me questions about what I was doing, how to play etc. This girl was astonished that you couldn't use your hands at all in the sport. Then went on to gloat about her softball trophies before strutting happily back to her basketball practicing. Cute kids lol.

Pretty decent week footbag wise. First week playing both for 3+ hours and without matt for a while. Gonna play again tomorrow hopefully weather permitting.

Started playing Runescape again lol.

Is a footbag update still related to footbag if the update is I haven't been playing footbag?

Dunno what the deal is though, not really having fun with it at the moment as I have in the past. Had a few sessions throughout the month that were just bleh. Not sure what's up but hopefully it will be fixed over the weekend at Artsfest as I will be going with Kemino. Hope to chill and shred with some old friends for sure. That's about it, not much else to report at the moment. Sorry for the lack of foot :\

Ivan: For sure man. I think a break every now and then is good for your legs to fully recuperate. Arts fest was dope as shit, hope to see you guys again soon.

----

I am thoroughly procrastinating my Artsfest write up but I did have a session with Matt Kemmdawgnapper today. As Jesus once said, "Twas dank as fuck" (1873). Matt got some cool steez as well but I'll let him write about it.

Anyways, session was at the OG library shred spot. My runs were more often than not 7-10+ tiltless strings with a couple having some dope control + density. Took Poolini's advice and tried to make every stall count. Couple highlezzels:

18 contacts of paradox mirage (so like 9 total bs or 4.5 BSOS I guess)
Paradox mirage > Ss Legover > mirage > Ss pickup BSOS
A few clean Illusions starting from left toe. I think the dexing leg is what's important so right leg illusion I think? Flip side needs a bit more work.

Had a lot of onlookers and appraisal from various passerby so that was kinda cool. Kemmastronaut is getting crazy with some Blinks n rev UPS n shit. Cool to see how his game is being altered. Very nice to be able to see my own consistency improving from where it was a few months ago as well. Artsfest write up soon, I promise.

I can't put monkey emoticons at the end of this post. I am sad. Instead, here is a picture of an actual real life monkey instead of a virtual fake monkey:

Had a sesh Monday as well as today later in the evening. Nothing special to report on Monday, had to call it quits 40 minutes in because of shin/ankle aches. Session today was a bit better, one hour, and more focused on certain things. Specifically some of Nick and Vojta's challenges for me. Got:

Ss clipper > Ss toe x7 left, x5 right (14 contacts total left, 10 right)
Ss clipper x9 BS (My more recent trick to doing Clippers is just to let the spirit of Kemino flow through me)
Clipper > near pickup rpt op x2 (For Vojta)
Op clipper x4 (Another Nick one, setting from left into opposite Clipper is still a bit wonky) [He told me to try for 5 first then 10]

So yea. Fun solo session. Gonna miss Kembino while he's repping upstate NY at Worlds. Secretly trying to train hard this week to surprise him when he gets back (shh don't tell him). Weather and body permitting, sesh will be had tomorrow. Good night Modified users.
