Hit another BSOS legover today. They feel like I'm actually making progress which is great. Am I using BSOS right in this case? Both sides one string, correct?
I think most people would say "Hit legover BSOS today", or "Hit legover BSOS again today".

Sweet!

Such a bad practice today. Not sure why.

One bright spot: I can hit Flapper now on strong side and I also hit the trick where you grab the bag with the back of your knee. Is this called cloud?

Drilled flipside today and toe stalls but I was pretty much useless all around. Ugh.

Cloud stall is calf stall, catching it in your knee is called Pincher. The two can sometimes hard to distinguish

Haha I'm finally cool enough to be used as a demonstration video :P

Austin, I say BSOS (whatever trick) or (whatever trick) BSOS. It doesn't really matter, as long as you're playing footbag haha

I'm glad you're into the weirder tricks. Those are the tricks that make this sport, for me.

Props on Flappers and Squeezes/Pinchers (those are synonymous).

Hope you get into UMD so we can shred together in the future! I'd love to take you in as my student! Let me know when you find out more.

Finally went out of my house now that the snow has melted a bit. Not used to having over a foot of snow in Kentucky. Next weekend will be 60 degrees F, though so that's interesting.

Took advantage of the snow to get a cool pic of me shredding with a snowball.(Too bad I can't do Blizzard):

Image

Practice went okay today, much better than that horrible one a couple days ago.

Drilled ATWs, Orbits, and Clippers on both sides. Flipside is getting better, my muscles are finally doing what I tell them to do lol. Flipside clipper is still just eh since my ankle crank isn't good but I've seen a huge improvement over the last ten days so I'm optimistic. I need to get serious about using the resistance band to see if it helps.

I'm getting better at controlling my clippers. I hit BSOS Clippers today again which is a good sign. I also hit 6x Clipper ss. That's a new best. More importantly, though, my average attempt at Clipper ss is now 4, up from 2-3 just a few days ago. My ankle crank just looses it's crank as the drill goes on so I'll just have to keep strengthening the calves.

Worked on legovers today. I feel like I'm not making any progress on my flipside legover. Hoping the muscle starts getting stronger so I can hit it more often. I suppose I should practice orbits more in order to get the dexing down.

As much as I hate practicing toe stall > op toe stall I did again today. My stalls are more consistent but I can never seem to get past 20. If anything I think it's more of a muscle fatigue thing. Just have to make sure I work on the leg muscles.

So it sounds like leg strength is the common theme here.

Hit 7x ss Clippers today. They're getting better! Still working on flipside fundamentals but they're getting better everyday. Hitting the calf raises hard lately to improve.

As always I drilled flipside ATWs and Orbits. It'll be huge for me to finally get these down. I feel like they will open a lot of doors.

Drilled toe stalls. Blah.

Drilled strong side pickups and near pickups today to try to improve the variety of tricks I can hit on demand. Also drilled legovers on both sides. Flipside is coming along well.

Messing around and I hit: Legover > op legover > op legover and then Legover > op Legover > Clipper > other stuff. Point is, my flipside legovers are getting good enough to make strings out of. Boom.

Where there's a will, there's a way!

Awesome to read that your flip Clippers are starting to become useful. Crushing it, man. It's great that you got this far in such a small amount of time.

Are you and Adam going to solo train this winter and then meet up in the spring?

Drilled orbits and ATWs both sides. My flipside is coming together! I feel so much more coordinated on flipside all of the sudden. Going to keep drilling these!

Did toe stall drills today and got a new PR. Still not amazing though. I need to start drilling these first thing before my legs get tired.

Flipside clippers were rough today starting out. Still working on them. Strong side is getting better too, much more consistent. I'm getting about 5 or 6 same side on my drills, though I still have bad ones where I only get two or three, but that was my best only about ten days ago so I'm making good progress. My best is 8x ss, but the last one was questionable.

For whatever reason my strong side Near pickups were absolutely on today. I hit a bunch and I don't think I actually missed more than one or two. I love stringing them in.

Legovers are getting better so that I can foot pretty much all of my flipsides now, I just need to work on the timing of the stall. (The Nick on my shoulder is telling me to drill toe > op toe). Strong side is looking good, though, so when I hit my flipside, I almost always end up going BSOS Legovers. My best is legover > op legover x2.

Also hit a Clipper but behind me which I think might be called OSIS? I'm not sure. Does that mean other side inside stall?

Just an ok practice today. Got my best toe stall drill today and also did Nick's orbit challenge. (Also the ATW challenge but forgot to record, ugh.)

Other than that I struggled today like I did yesterday. I think I play a lot better when I don't play everyday. I reeeaaallllyyyy need to work on leg strength.

Flipside clippers were easier today, so that's improvement. Strong side is coming along swimmingly as well.

Legovers were not good. I hit maybe 10 flip and 15 strong, but I couldn't string them together like I could a few days ago. Definitely feel the muscle soreness on these. It's funny though because I consider this a bad practice now, yet less than ten days ago couldn't hit a flipside legover at all. I guess that's a good sign.

Anyway I worked on going from clipper to flapper on my strong side because I enjoy the uns stall, but I can never seem to go anywhere after the flapper. Advice? (Also: Do Flapper Set near pickups exist? Is that a thing?)

Ordered a bag from Mike Wilson today and it looks dope. I can't wait to play with it. Also planning on getting a Hania bag from freedom in the next month or two to spread the Footbag love around.

Went to the park today to walk with my girlfriend now that the weather has jumped into the sixties. Ended up staying to shred and I did really well, being outside gives me sooo much more room.

I hit 9x clipper ss on strong side and my flipside is coming along better than ever. My crank is improving!

I also hit four butterflies in a row! They're getting easier.

My flipside orbits are really getting good. I think working on flipside legovers actually helped a bunch to improve my orbits. I think it's normally the other way around.

The girlfriend got a snapchat of me hitting legover > Clipper > Near Pickup > Clipper and a few passersby saw me playing so definitely repped the sport today. Getting the word out.

Can't wait to play in the park some more once the weather is consistently warm. Maybe I'll find someone else interested in the sport that way. It'll be too late to really get together and play, though, because I'll be moving away in a matter of months. New players are good to have anyway though.

Pretty psyched about warmer weather, even if this is just a random warm period in the middle of winter.

That was all strong side sorry ha. Like hand catch after each one for reset. But my flipside clipper is definitely getting better though, just not that good haha.

Decent practice today. Drilled toe stalls, orbits, ATWs, clippers, and legovers on both sides. Hit probably 50 Flipside clippers. Really pushing them.

I also managed to hit a trick that was like a butterfly but instead of setting from the left foot I set from the right foot and hopped a little and did the dex with my right leg and stalled it on my right side (left foot) clipper. Basically it was like a left to right butterfly but set from the right foot instead. Or maybe I'd describe it as a Near Pickup played in reverse. What is this? (Edit: Nick says Toe ss Butterfly)

Anyway not much time to log my practice. Suuuuuper busy the past couple days. Can't wait to show you all the new bag I'm getting from Mike Wilson! Psyched!

Edit: almost forgot, I hit my first far legover today!

I'm happy with my strong side clipper progress. Hit 11 ss in a row today and it felt really good. I think I've got the timing, control, and balance down now. Just a matter of getting my flipside to catch up. Worked hard on it today too. Did over fifty of them I think, and even strung a few into BSOS clippers, going both ways. Definitely progress!

Drilled ATWs and Orbits a bit as always. Flipside orbit feels much more natural now. ATW does not :/

Toe stalls. Eh.

Worked on legovers but I couldn't hit many. Soreness isn't a big deal today but I still think skipping a day helps with my legovers.

Also, I hit a new trick and I'd like to guess the name of it. I think it might be called clipper ss butterfly. From a clipper set, I dex with my support leg and clipper stall it on the same leg as I started with. I guess this is three adds?

Made a Footbag my banner picture on Facebook which will hopefully spur conversation about the sport. From the sound of it the sport is really growing so hopefully we can keep it up!

On a random note: I can clipper my phone now on strong side; if I ever drop it I'll at least have a chance of looking like a bad ass by saving it with a clipper, lol.

More stuff: I think I nailed the Maryland and North Carolina interviews, Arizona was okay. One of these may be my future state! Let me know if you're from one of these states or near them and maybe we can meet up!

Short practice today.

Did Nick's ATW challenge and worked on ATWs and Orbits.

Worked on clippers. And toe stalls, got up to 45 stalls alternating.

Nothing new to report, really.

Probably resting tomorrow and shredding this weekend. The warm weather is leaving and we'll be headed back into the miserable Kentucky winter. ugh. What a tease this past week has been. Only got to play outside once, but it was amazing. Fingers crossed for Arizona grad school where there are pretty much no winters, haha.

I've been mentally shredding a lot lately, so maybe that will help my game.

Went to the park again today since it got up to 40F. Got a couple clips of me that I would like critiqued if anyone is up to it:

https://vimeo.com/154370809

https://vimeo.com/154371222

Just practiced some legovers clippers orbits ATWs, the usual. Getting better at all of it and I'm really psyched for when they'll all be as easy as my strong side clippers are for me now. Looking forward to it.

Paid special attention to my balance during my ATWs and also my sets for my legovers. Those two things are my biggest problems (other than flipside clipper) at the moment. Once I get those down I feel like I'll be set for most of the basic dexes.

8 February 2016

Warm weather is gone. Huge snow flakes falling outside (they're over two inches wide, never seen that in Kentucky before!) so I'm trapped inside to practice.

Really trying to drill my flipside clipper hard. In doing so, I managed to hit a few flip far legovers which is awesome. Once I get better at flipside clipper I think my far legover will switch which side is flip and which side is strong. Regardless, pretty much my whole practice today was devoted to clippers. I did figure out one of the things I was doing wrong on flipside. I leaned in too much towards the clipper, so when I fixed my posture for the trick I ended up hitting it in a much more controlled manner. Other than that most of the work now is increasing my crank muscles which was been going slowly. Tips appreciated.

Also drilled toe stalls really hard today to improve my setting and control. I definitely struggle with this. Not great today. I'm thinking that I'll dedicate my entire practice sometime soon to this.

Drilled a tiny bit of legovers to stay sharp, but nothing too serious. Hit a few near legovers on strong side. Ended up getting BSOS legovers x2 (or do I say 4 if there were 4 individual legovers?)

In other news: I hit far legover > butterfly which was a good sign that I can control my flipside legovers better now.

Posted a string on Instagram (@ihinkthereforeiam) and a bunch of people I haven't even talked to since highschool liked it. Including people from all different social circles I'm in, which is really cool. People from Denmark to Washington DC to my home state liked it which I think shows that people from all over are at least mildly interested in the sport. I think there's a lot of potential for us to grow. I was really hoping the post would spark one or two people to ask me to play with them or teach them what I know. Alas, it did not. Maybe next time.
