Nice activity-ing. That was quite cool that last run. Looks like you have a great view from that shred room. How much longer will you stay in Wellington for?

Yeah, I have been so lucky for like 3 years now to have a sweet view of downtown Wellington while I kick. I will take some footage of it next time I film.

I will be in Welly at least until February of 2017; that is when I submit my thesis for examination. During the three months I am waiting for my defense, I don't really have any plans, other than live cheap and hard!

I kicked today for about 45 minutes. I took yesterday off to get some more thesis writing done. I worked on the usual, but this time I made sure to record some different sets, to see what needs work. I went through some of it and made mental notes, but I plan on watching it again and making paper notes, in a way that helps me see what the issues I am having are, which will in turn help me to fix them.

Here is a short clip of one run, because:

- it feels nice having videos in my blog,
- maybe someone can learn something from watching me,
- its a great way to track development. and
- who doesn't want more videos on modified!

For what it's worth, I took a short clip of the view from my shred spot of downtown Wellington, but it was pretty cloudy, so will have another go on a sunny day.

Also for what it's worth, I tried uploading in HD, but my ipad didn't allow me...so again not the best quality.

I kicked for about 45 minutes today. The goals were to

1. get rid of stress, and
2. develop a habit for obtaining bothsidedness, or symmetry.

I nailed the first goal, and totally reset myself. For the second goal, I practiced each of the following sets five times. Not a lot, but forming a habit of doing it every session is more important to me right now than upping the numbers, which will naturally follow:

- pixie (op toe) x5
- fairy (op toe) x5
- atomic (toe) x5
- quantum (toe) x5
- stepping (same clip) x5
- nuclear (toe) x 5
- little toe stalls x 50 (25 bs)

I wanted to take video of the above as a way to assess and improve my form, but I forgot my camera in my office.

In addition, I also

- hit all four datws (both sides, both directions)
- practiced marius a few times each side. They seem pretty even; beginning to foot both of them.
- hit blurry drifter bsos. Felt like it had been a little while since I did that.

At the end of the session two girls came into the room to practice zumba. One of them was an instructor, the other I'm not sure about. It was nice to have other people in the room for motivation. They had access to the big speakers so the last 10 minutes or so I rocked out with my cock out while they did their thing.

Last Sunday I filmed for about 45 minutes when Todd, Liam, and I hacked. Here is a short clip of our first hack which was caught after I set the camera up. Not sure about the quality of the rest of the footage considering the wind gusts we had that day made it hard to keep the camera at the right angle.

EDIT: This is my 1000th post!

I kicked for about one hour at the gym yesterday. There were a bit more people there working out which was nice. This was the second day in a row that I made sure to practice all of the sets, plus some atws, with the only difference being that for the stepping set practice, I did stepping op toe instead of stepping same clipper:

- in|out ATW x 5 bs
- out|in ATW x 5 bs
- pixie (op toe) x5
- fairy (op toe) x5
- atomic (toe) x5
- quantum (toe) x5
- stepping (op toe) x5
- nuclear (toe) x 5
- little toe stalls x 50 (25 bs)

A short clip of one run:

I also hit pixie same mirage x 9: (EDIT: After re-watching, not sure if the last one was caught and then dropped after the last pixie set, or if I just dropped it from the get-go.)
Developing footbag skill is so enjoyable.

It would probably be good to practice a bunch of downtime components in the same way, that would really build your all round game I think.

Shit, you are so right. I will add these today when I kick:

- mirage x 5 bs
- ss mirage x 5 bs
- illusion x 5 bs
- ss illusion x 5 bs
- whirling op inside x 5 bs

...although that last one may be better as simply whirl x5 bs; I was just trying to keep things as fundamentals-focused as could be, and ending on toe seems more fundamental than ending on clipper.

Thanks for the suggestion, homie. Any other downtime components you were thinking of?

I kicked today for about an hour. I started filming and about 10 minutes in one of the guys I see fairly regularly came in to practice Kendo, so I stopped filming.

The majority of the time I spent working on developing the habit of sets practice. I wrote down a bunch of stuff that I did:

- ATW x5 bs
- mirage x5 bs
- ss mirage x5 bs
- illusion x5 bs
- ss illusion x5 bs
- pixie (op toe) x5 bs
- pixie (same toe) x5 bs
- fairy (op toe) x5 bs
- fairy (same toe) x5 bs
- whirl x5 bs
- pdx whirl x5 bs
- atomic (op toe) x5 bs
- atomic (same toe) x5 bs
- quantum (op toe) x5 bs
- quantum (same toe) x5 bs
- nuclear (op toe) x5 bs
- nuclear (same toe) x5 bs
- legover (op toe) x5 bs
- legover (same toe) x5 bs
- pickup (op toe) x5 bs
- pickup (same toe) x5 bs
- (same)clipper x5 bs
- (op) clipper x5 bs
- ducking op toe x5 bs (didn't do weaving toe x5)
- rev swirl x5 bs
- swirl x5 bs
- ducking (far) shoulder catch > same toe x5 bs
- stepping (op toe) x5 bs
- stepping (same toe) x5 bs

Thanks D.B. for the downtime suggestion. I added legovers, pickups, illusions, and mirages in there too.

One drill that I wrote down that I did was:

- magellan > plo > rpt > smear > pixie ss mirage > rpt

This means 660 adds for the sets practice, and 24 for the drill, if calculations are correct. In other words, my Laver's addometer has increased by 684 adds!

I also noted that my dyno sets are a bit too fast, like I am not cushioning the bag and holding the clipper as much as I should be. I wrote this down in big letters because I tried one mid-string, and almost stepped on my foot because of it. Do it correctly.

I ended up sweaty as usual, and it felt good knowing that I got a well-rounded kick in.

Kicked for about 45 minutes today. I was sort of hesitant considering I had kicked pretty hard this week, but also because I have been putting a lot of late nights into my thesis, and if my body is tired, I may get sick. Luckily, that hasn't happened. I was glad I kicked. I did the following things, but couldn't prioritize a longer session over my thesis, so I stopped where I did:

- ATW (in-out) x5 bs
- ATW (out-in) x5 bs
- mirage x5 bs
- ss mirage x5 bs
- illusion x5 bs
- ss illusion x5 bs
- pixie op toe x5 bs
- pixie same toe x5 bs
- fairy op toe x5 bs
- fairy same toe x5 bs
- litte toe stalls x 25 bs

At the end of the session I hit:

- DATW (out-in) > legover > rpt > DATW (in-out) > pickup > rpt

That is something I would not have been able to do a year ago. Great!

So, 660 adds from the fundamentals yesterday, plus 250 from today...equals 910 adds on the addometer. I should make something that counts/updates this automatically, and also stores it. I think I will just count the fundamental adds, so that I have an idea of how much the fundamentals are add-ing up.

Saturday may see a lack of shred, but we will see. I took some footage today so hopefully will add something here in the next day or two.

Note: try ducking void. Great 6 to have under the belt.

Ducking void as in morpheus, thanks for clarifying. Although both would be sweet!

This is an impressively organised system. I guess you could even add some double dexing sets to things if you can do them (sailing, shooting etc). You could also do some clippers and butterflies (op, same, mixed) in that list.

Something that I do from time to time, just to mix things up, is to set a bunch of different tricks, and aim to go up to 10 of each one, having 10 attempts. I usually do tricks that change feet and start on a different side each time.

So you might do

legover
pickup
clipper
PLO
ducking clipper
butterfly
ripwalk

I can't remember the other ones I was mainly doing, but then you record how many of each one you do. A good to mix it up, and to keep up stamina.

Thanks! I have plans to make it even more organized, and automatic as much as possible. Gotta figure out the content first, then work on the system...or maybe both at the same time...
boyle wrote:I guess you could even add some double dexing sets to things if you can do them (sailing, shooting etc). You could also do some clippers and butterflies (op, same, mixed) in that list.
Hmm, interesting point. Maybe I will add in a couple double Ds.

Good idea. Maybe instead of the x10, which is (only) double what I am doing, I could choose one or two, and consec until I throw up from doing so many.

I kicked today for just about an hour. I took the weekend off from shred, with the exception of hack on Sunday. Today was a good shred. I felt like I dropped less and had generally speaking more control. Already I can feel the difference? Hmm, I wonder if it will stay like this?

Here is what I did:

- ATW i-o x5 bs
- ATW o-i x5 bs
- mirage > ss mirage > rpt x5
- illusion > ss illusion > rpt x5
- pixie (op toe) x5 bs
- pixie (same toe) x5 bs
- fairy (op toe) x5 bs
- fairy (same toe) x5 bs
- atomic (op toe) x5 bs
- atomic (same toe) x5 bs
- quantum (op toe) x5 bs
- quantum (same toe) x5 bs
- legover > ss legover > rpt x5
- pickup > ss pickup > rpt x5
- stepping (op toe) x5 bs
- stepping (same toe) x5 bs
- little toe stalls x 25 bs
- single ss little toe stalls x 25 bs

I changed up the practice today as seen in the bullets above to repeat the fundamentals. That way, I keep it fresh so that I am not also doing the same practice. This way, I get a wider variety of practice; drill mirage x5 > hand catch > flip mirage x5 for example, focuses more on the form of the individual trick whereas mirage > ss mirage > rpt works string flow and stretches my mind to think about not only good form with the tricks, but also shifting body weight.

I had a couple of more ideas while shredding to keep my system organized and/or add to it:

1. One note I made today was about tracking set consecutives, like personal records. I could call them 'set-secutives' or 'con-setutives' or just 'consets' for short.

2. Another note I made was an already-discovered benefit of the system above. I realized that one thing I wasn't doing, something that I think will be really beneficial, is simple ss toe stalls. Imagine two bags, one on each foot, but with only one bag. I think drilling those for my left toe is really going to help it stabilize. The way I organize my notes, there were two empty columns for the little toe stalls and when I thought about it, I had a Eureeka moment.

Addometer: 460 adds today + 910 up until today = 1370 adds.

Lastly, I figured out how to upload in HD! Here is a short clip of the view I have been lucky enough to have from my shred spot since I moved to Wellington:

Took the day off from shred today to get some thesis work done. Dave and Lili are back! We had a little welcome back party and I got home a bit late last night. Good stuff.

I think we are getting together today, shortly, for some hack. Here is a short clip of gyro mirage and spinning mirage. I like the look of spinning mirages; it looks like a proper spin has happened and makes me think people who don't kick would appreciate it, too.

I took Wednesday - Friday off since Dave was back from his world tour and helped him move house up to Tauranga. What an adventure. Among other things, we

- Were on the road for 10 hours one way,
- swam in Lake Taupo,
- camped in two sweet locations,
- brainstormed some cool ideas for his new campervan,
- hacked on Leisure island, and
- swam in the ocean.

I kicked today for about an hour at the rec centre. They put up some new pics outside of the building on the glass wall leading into the building. I asked if I could get a space and they said no; it is reserved for special people.

- ATW i-o x5 bs
- ATW o-i x5 bs
- mirage x5 bs
- ss mirage x5 bs
- illusion x5 bs
- ss illusion x5 bs
- legover x5 bs
- ss legover (planted downtime atw o-i) x5 bs
- pickup x5
- ss pickup (planted downtime atw i-o) x5 bs
- little toe stalls x25 bs
- ss little toe stalls x25 bs
- clip x 5 > gyro clip > rpt x2
- pixie (op) toe x5 bs
- pixie (ss) toe x5 bs
- fairy (op) toe x5 bs
- fairy (ss) toe x5 bs
- stepping (op) toe x5 bs
- stepping (ss) toe x5 bs
- atomic (op) toe x5 bs
- atomic (ss) toe x5 bs
- quantum (op) toe x5 bs
- quantum (ss) toe x5 bs
- DATW i-o x5 bs
- DATW o-i x5 bs

I don't think I will keep the 'drill' concept I mentioned in perhaps my last post, since I think for now just practicing the fundamentals is best, not worrying about whether I did them drill-style or not.

I also wrote down to try

- morpheus
- toe torque > spin mirage > atomic whirl bs
- spin clip x15 bs

... but didn't get around to them. I am enjoying the feeling of knowing that I practiced smart at the end of these sessions.

Addometer:
1370 previously + 612 today = 1982 fundamentals (fund-add-mentals).

Here is a run from today:

I don't see how you would not be able to hit morpheus without too many problems, you have a good ducking drifter and good spins!

I'm not sure I got 15 consec spin clippers before, probably 10-11 and I get so dizzy, any tips? I might try to do as much as well!

Yeah, I reckon practicing them for a little while may end in hitting at least one side.

The most I have got is about 10 as well. I think the important thing is to spot the bag with as little back and forth "where the fuck is the bag?" movement with your head so you don't get dizzy. Other than than, I assume gyro clipper practice would help.
