Thanks, Erik!

Drilled osis yesterday. Big progress.
 Osis b2b x14
 Far osis x2 both sides

I'm learning to do far osis with and without planting. Apparently the former, which I guess you could call "symple" osis, is a stepping stone to torque. I wasn't able to do consecutive symple osis on either side, but I'll keep trying. At least I can hit it.

Butterfly technique still needs work.

I think that way of doing osis definitely helps with torque, it also feels cool doing the move.

Diff Osis approaches

Post by C-Fan »

I find that the more different ways you can learn to do all the basic 2s and 3s, the better. Even if some of them don't directly apply to specific moves down the line, you're learning/mastering different elements of timing and control. But yeah, learning how to do tricks mid time instead of downtime, no plant instead of plant, blind instead of looking, etc. will help down the line.

Additionally, I find osis > far osis > rpt satisfying.

Funny you mention that TJ, because I hit that drill for the first time this week! Also got 14 osis back to back, which is my personal best by a loooooong shot. Osis seems to be working well :)

Ducking, on the other hand, has taken a dive (pun regrettably intended). In trying to improve my clipper form, I've actually lost ground on ducking clipper. I guess that means I was doing ducking with bad form all along, but it's incredibly frustrating having to re-learn one of my core tricks.

On the bright side, I took a day trip with Sean Nyman to Kalamazoo, MI, to see Christian and Anton Britting. We had a dope-ass session in one of Anton's friend's art studio and I hit spinning osis for the first time!!! Wow!!! Well, only on one side. But hey, it's a start.

Awesome! I recommend doing osis > far osis > rpt muted too. Far muted osis is great practice for balance, and great fun. Greg used to do them a lot.

I know how it feels to have to re-learn a core trick; I have been working on my left toe for years. It's good that you are on to it this early in your career though. I don't think there is anything quite like the feeling of knowing that you are practicing both sides evenly.

PS I would drill gyro clippers. They will help your spinning so much. They help you learn to set the bag and spin independently of each other. Just do a couple back to back every session, or even gyro clip > ss clip > rpt.

PPS How about you and I start posting more vids? Whenever one of us posts, the other one has 5 days to post one, or else. I suggest this because I keep wanting you to post vids, but am not posting them myself so I feel like I can't keep preaching to you to do something that I am not doing. The vids don't have to be epic, they can just be a couple runs from a sesh or two.

eh?

You've convinced me, TJ. I'll post a video from my next session, hopefully tomorrow. Also, I just realized that my last blog post repeated the highlights of this page's top post. Didn't even remember blogging about those achievements.... I think I'm going senile 8O

Great string, and great bounce!

I notice that playing in front of people often gives me an extra boost, which means I sweat bullets in half the time it takes me to when shredding in the gym.

I should have time today to kick/record a vid, but if not, expect one soon friend.

How much did you make busking? I used to busk in Osaka and would make like $20 over 3 hours. I have also gotten things like milk tea and slices of cake from the convenience store from people. Fun stuff.

I used the term "busking" rather loosely. Didn't actually put out a hat for money and no one offered ;) I just played in a conspicuous public place for funzies.

Haven't posted in a bit, let's catch up.

Had a productive session on Monday. I hit my ss butterfly record on both sides, and worked on a bunch of other BOP drills. Got some feeback about my ss butters; Matt Kemmer and some others suggest that I try to face the same way at the end of each ss butter (rather than gradually turning). I've tried to do that in the past without much success, but Kemmer said he'd help me out at New Years Jam.

Here's clips from Monday:

Also had nice session with Sean yesterday. I'll try to find clips of that later.

In other news, I'm working on TWO Joulukalenteri videos now which will be released on the 18th. Also helped out Ken with some of his Drills of the Day. Really stoked to be part of something new for the Joulukalenteri!

Last, but not least, New Years Jam is coming! If you're still undecided, stop being wishy-washy and show up! Just get here with your shorts and shoes and we'll take care of the rest: food, housing, entertainment, we got it.

Good to see you are getting some good kicks in, in addition to the less-than-ideal ones.

I haven't been to a New Years Jam yet! That should be something on my todo list!

Count on it happening again next year. And the year after that. Hopefully forever. See you eventually!

Worked on the intermediate Link of the Day challenges today. So far I've hit ALL of them :D (All but one on both sides, too!)
Today:
 Diving clipper > ducking clipper (easy, I've hit that a gazillion times)
 Gyro clipper > near DLO (not great at gyros, but good enough to hit the link both sides)
 Pdx illusion > eggbeater (one side only, but WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D )

Eggbeater has always felt just out of reach, but today I got it! Sort of. Managed to get several on strong side with a lot of attempts, but I couldn't get any flipside. At least I have video of the session so I can compare mine to Littlefield's. I'm really, really, really trying to hit every intermediate LOTD combo both sides this year, and hoping that Bonslaver holds off on the swirls and whirls.

Inspired by one of the LOTD combos, I tried to hit toe ducking clipper > gyro clipper > near DLO, repeat. Only got five contacts :( My gyros need work; they often go too high or too diagonal or something.

Finally, I hit a new trick today! "Through the arms" ducking pincher (see Instagram video). Not sure if that counts as an invention, or if "through the arms" ducking has a nickname.

Looking good! The eggbeater seemed like you hit it with minimal effort. Nice.

Posting in my footblog after this.
