Top post video, by Tom Mosher!:

Didn't get 20x20 today.
We were relegated to the carpet area again and it threw off my game so much. Not just spins, but my feet stuck to the floor on everything. It was miserable and frustrating. At one point I was able to play on the hardwood for about 20 minutes and hit Amadeus and spinning dada both BS. I vote that spinning dada be called Mozart. Only makes sense...

Oh, also hit calf-bumping ducking calf bump bs.

Hey guys!
TJ: Sorry, this video was from Jan, 2014... I don't know if I've even seen Tom since :'( We used to live a couple blocks away from each other too...
Ryan: Cuphead is awesome! Let me know what you think! Actually, my girlfriend got me a Cuphead figure for Christmas :) This guy:
Image

I was just playing around with my foobag tricks spreadsheet and decided to make a more accurate formula for calculating the total number of tricks I've hit. So I pulled the totals from each add category, added them together, multiplied by 2, then with the total number of flipside tricks not hit subtracted. So my current total number of tricks hit is: 1639.

Previously I only had the total number of tricks hit, not factoring in both sides. Although it also looks like the formula has issues with refreshing, since I just added a new trick and it's still saying 1639...
I think I might add the goal of getting up to 2000 by the end of the year. That would be fun :) Shouldn't be too difficult if I really fish for it
Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0
I'm also curious how many tricks the average player has hit. I feel like quite a bit less, since a lot of these are really subtle and weird differences. Actually, it looks like I've hit 666 new tricks since I started the spreadsheet, late last year

Whirlyball Sick03 Mozart

Given that Amadeus and Mozart are the same person, I don't like that they are different tricks. I do like thematically linked trick names though, so maybe bark further up that tree.

I'm jealous about whirlyball. It looks super fun, and I wonder if I'd be any good at it. My dad was a serious Jai Alai player back in the day, so maybe that scoop control is in my genes...

Cuphead does look amazing. I keep waiting for it to go on a deep sale on Steam. One day...

My thought for Mozart was along the same lines as Janiwalker and Sunilwalker.
Yeah, whirlyball was a blast. You should come next year...
Also, I picked up Cuphead again the other night and finished off a boss that I'd left off on months ago. Felt good. One super nice thing about it is that you can plug in your PS4 controller and play immediately without any plugins required or anything. Just plug and play without ever using my PS4 controller on my laptop before. Unsure if I would actually play it otherwise? Or would have waited a lot longer in any case...

What's Jai Alai?

Oh, also on that note, just after I mentioned my Dark Souls playthroughs, a remaster was announced (just on Thursday I think it was)! I heard rumours that it's a full remake from the ground-up rather than a remaster that's just a graphical upgrade of the old game. Though lots of conflicting info. So excited! May 25! Oooh that's a Friday. It will be a lazy weekend...

Today's session was frustrating again. I got 12x20, but I was playing suuper inconsistently, could barely link my core tricks kinda stuff. Bleh. At one point I got really frustrated with it and thought I would just drill spinning clippers because I know I can't miss them. I did the equivalent of the 1 clipper BS > 2 clippers BS > etc, but ducking clipper > spinning clipper [repeat] > duck clip > spin clip x2 > etc. I got up to 8 each side (88 contacts?) and then dropped after 1 more going for 9s. Felt good. I was hoping for 10s, but that's the most I've ever done before, and I'm happy with that! I hit torquescrew one side, but unsure if that's new or not, so I did pixie symple legover BS and pixie near symple legover BS for my new tricks.

Oh, I also discovered that my spreadsheet does update, but it is super slow and often requires you to close out of it and then open it later for it to update. Kindly wack, but it is a lot of formulas feeding into one...

Oh yeah, Maciej also footed triple blender a few times. He went off on his own to film it, so expect video in the near future once he does 8O

That's a good drill, with the repeated ducking/spinning. I might try that one too. You could also add in diving along the way as well, and keep building that up. Nice work on torquescrew. I have tried that a couple of times lately but not really coming close.

Thanks Dan :)
Hit the other side torquescrew today in a couple tries. Felt cool. I'd done moby dick one side back in like 2012 as a challenge before ever actually hitting torquescrew, I think. Lol.
Hit a handful of other new tricks BS too (sooome I think I've hit before, but not all):
-ducking illusion (toe)
-diving illusion (toe)
-ducking pdx illusion
-diving illusion (clip)
-spinning illusion
-gyro illusion

Oh yeah, also I hit flip reactor after, like... what, 15 years? I put a handful of tries into flip Gary Coleman, but gave up. Need quicker timing on the symp whirl. Felt like trying flip montage, but I guess I forgot.

It was a duo session with Mike and we got winded sooo fast, with aching breath and super slothful legs. But it was fun and felt like a killer workout! I had some neat runs, but nothing super awesome, I don't think. Oh, I gave a few attempts at TJ's(?) combo -- ducking PS mirage > pixie paradon [repeat], and I can totally do it, but Mike had ended for the session I think and I didn't have the energy left. Totally doable. Would be neat to get on video, but no video until it's nice outside again.

I ended up trying a couple of times, maybe once on each side. Funny enough I only hit it flip (no repeat).

Thanks, yeah same here!
Having said that, I'm probably never going to do them regularly. It was more a one-time thing. Would be fun, but... lately I've been struggling just to maintain my base repertoire, nevermind adding new things :(

On that note I had an even worse session today. So bad. Didn't really do anything. Thought of a few neat combos, but don't think I completed any. I look forward to the summer, and I'm hoping that I can try to solo at least once a week and train some more fun things on video instead of the same old boring.

I ended the session on ripwalk x40 > rev whirlygig > hand catch, but that was literally the only highlight of the 2 hours (according to my spreadsheet that's my record, but I'm not sure if that's true or not...). New tricks were quantum knee kick BS, and quantum calf kick BS (didn't think to do slapping). I think I also play worse when Maciej shows up -- more pressure?

Thanks TJ :)

For some reason I thought I'd been playing longer without major injury, but Feb 4 will be 1 year! I thought it was more like September, but it looks like I played the summer of 2016 and then was injured until early 2017. Let's see if I can significantly surpass a year, because I don't think I have in a long, long time. Big thanks to my previous physiotherapist for getting me over that injury that'd been nagging me since like 2012. It still is, but I do physio every single day for it since.

Also, while I'm posting, I think my plan may be to go back to another 20x20x20, since that helped a lot with consistency. Just moping about the past couple sucky sessions and trying to think of solutions.

Oh, also I just took the plunge and ordered a Switch and Breath of the Wild. Can't waaait. I've never played a Zelda game before, but I did pickup Twilight Princess for cheap a month or so ago for Wii, so may try to play that before my Switch arrives. That game is apparently a decade old! I hope I can get into it... Zelda games have never held an appeal for me until BOTW. Although I did always want to try Windwaker (not gonna buy a Wii U for that...) Also, I was only able to justify the purchase because we've had to put off our Capetown trip yet again (a really bad drought happening at the moment).

Congratulations on almost a year!

Would you be interested in telling the story of how your overcome your problems and stuck it out for the love of footbag for www.modified.in/bsos ? I think we could all use more positive stories in our lives :)

I was browsing through your comics library on your website and your collection got me all wet.
Is there an Ashley Wood art book that doesn't cost a million these days? I was looking into the 96 nudes one, but it is way too expensive now.

Had a chat with Asmus about the article he asked about. Should be fun, though I'm not sure how interested people would be. I made some notes the other day, and I think I'm going to go through my footblog again to put together a timeline of my injuries. Would be interesting to see just for myself even.

I'm glad you liked my comics library.
I don't know what kind of Amazon access you have in Europe, but his newest books are always manageable. The problem is if you don't jump on a new book within the first month you've lost your chance to get it for less than hundreds more than the cover price. His stuff goes out of print immediately. Having said that, have you seen my comic art YouTube channel? I've previewed all but one of the Ashley Wood books I own there: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... RWj2-6CgAz
(And other goodies too.) If you can get your hands on his Metal Gear Solid books (I think the omnibus is still available at cover price?), I think that is the peak of his game. GORGEOUS. Doesn't hurt that MGS is one of my favourite video games of all time.
Yeah, actually, I think 48 Nudes was on my wishlist for ages, but it just disappeared into the Ash Nether. At least I have 96 which collects both of the originals.

20x20 #21:
Today's session felt so much more satisfying doing 20x20 again. It forced me to do some more drill-y stuff to get the contacts when I couldn't freestyle them. Some drills were even harder than freestyling, but were more consistent for me.
I hit some cool new tricks:
-symp torque (first try -- couldn't quite get flip, but footed a bunch)
-flip moby dick
-whipping near whirl (blang bling? lol) This was a challenge from Maciej. I didn't think I could do whipping, but apparently it's not too hard! I've done like rev whirr and some other things before, but that was over a decade ago. May do more of this :) Oh, super close to flip, but not quite. I just can't do downtime whirls lol
-and then I finished up the quantum basic kicks: slapping calf kick, slapping knee kick, quantum and slapping toe kicks and inside kicks

Maciej footed whirlygig swirl > janiwalker... He also hit triple blender on video and showed us, but he didn't catch it, so he'll probably keep trying until he gets it and posts in the FB group. I dunno what else. He's a machine. clownface > pixie paradon swirl. Long runs. He did a cool stepping ducking combo... like alpine blurry whirl > alpine swifter or something? Not quite, but something like that. Oh, he also did revstein BSOS? Looked just as easy as most people's ripsteins...

Nice new tricks. Can you do PS torque? Whenever Maciej posts something on FB people are like "woah" and then like, who the hell is this guy? Although I think he's posted enough crazy stuff now that people have some idea.

Lol. Yeah.
It's such a privilege to get to play with him regularly! It's weird too because there's that recent video of him doing a few runs, but his average runs are way better than what he highlighted there!
Thanks Dan. I've never tried PS torque. I'll try some time. I don't know if I'd ever tried symp torque before actually. That made it extra cool that I hit it first try.

Whelp, I spoke too soon.
Twisted my ankle really bad at yesterday's session :( I could hear cracks and stuff too. On a vortex. First time twisting my ankle in Climas. Couldn't gauge it very well yesterday, but I went home and iced and elevated and then I taped it up too. I woke up and I've been limping pretty badly since. Going to ask my manager if I can work from home for a few days. I'm probably out for a week or more, which really sucks. As long as it's not a few months though I won't count it against my almost 1 year of playing injury-free. For me a significant injury is more than a few months. That's kind of sad, but I've been through a lot...

Sucks extra bad since yesterday started out as a REALLY good session for me! I had 8 20s done within like 15 minutes. Ah well. I'm still thankful that I'm able to play at all. I just hope this doesn't set me back too far. I did manage some new tricks before I crumpled to the ground though:
-near calf roll
-far calf roll
-spinning calf roll

What is calf roll called? I'm pretty sure it has a name, but I can't remember...

tootsie?

Post by C-Fan »

Those Maciej highlights are silly. Triple blender? Jeez.
If you can hit symp torque now, I recommend going for big apple. The momentum you get with the spin actually makes it easier than just doing normal symp torque. Like, the spin momentun does half the work for the symp torque part. It's a cool feeling. PS torque doesn't feel nearly as cool.

Be careful with dem ankles!

As for the calf rolls...were those called tootsie roll maybe?
