That sucks about your ankle. I hope you get back on your feet ASAP!

Ken are you sure you aren't thinking of this?

Thanks guys.
Yeah, I've only had a couple bad ankle rolls in my career, and the last one was probably over a decade ago (obviously before I started playing in Climas). Gonna nurse this one the best I can. Taking time to work from home and move as little as possible while icing, etc, should help.

Ah, Tootsie Roll! That's it! Thanks Ken.
Did a little searching to confirm:
Outsider wrote: 12 Jul 2007 07:26My best f-up ever, though, had a very happy result. I decided one day that I wanted to learn to do a good cross-body cloud (calf) stall, and in trying to make the bag land right on the calf, it kept rolling off instead. It occurred to me that the roll could be cooler than the stall. Thus was invented the Tootsie Roll, which is now one of my favorite tricks. I never did learn to do that cross-body cloud stall, though.
As for big apple, I've hit lots of them, hit it both sides before thinking to try the symp torque. Almost BSOSed it that day too. I agree it feels sooo good and symp torque feels weird like starting from zero momentum. I've done that for a handful of tricks where I've hit a harder version, but never the base trick, like backside bedwetter both sides, but never symp egg.

Also, yeah, Maciej is nuts!

Oh dear! Hope the ankle gets better soon. Seems you've had a good run lately with injuries so that's hopefully a good sign.

Thanks guys.
I was watching Ken's stream last night. He ended the session on a vortex, which was the trick that I ended my last session on, twisting my ankle. Felt appropriate. (Though I didn't land the vortex...)

VIDEO GAMES
I miss hacky!
I'm walking without pain this week, thanks to my managers for letting me work from home a few days, and into the weekend. Also that gave me a ton of time to play Breath of the Wild. OMG, I wouldn't give it 10 because the graphics are pretty terrible, but almost everything else about that game is just so compelling. I've never played a Zelda game before. I've tried a couple really celebrated ones and absolutely hated them. I didn't think I'd like the puzzles in BOTW, because I'm not really into that, but they're genuinely fun! The exploration is ridiculous and there is so much to do, and it's all fun! I think the raddest part is that the combat can be approached either very basically like a kid-friendly hack and slash, or very, very technically, a la Dark Souls (see this video for examples!: )

Anyway, it's super fun and I've sunk a ton of hours into it. Wish I could be putting those hours into footbag, but oh well. Hopefully I will be back in a week or 2. I spent the first half-week icing and elevating. And then all of this week I've taped it up with fancy sports medical tape, and then bought a gel-support ankle brace to put on top of that too, which has been amazing for restricting movement and stabilizing!

Also, put some thought into my top 10 favourite video games, and I think these are them. I think I've played all of them at LEAST 3 times each, except BOTW, and a LOT more for Dark Souls, MGS, and Bloodborne!
1 Dark Souls (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6xaY64GNfs)
2 MGS1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt2K45vwTM4)
3 Vagrant Story (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDiZNuAkqz0)
4 Bloodborne (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PofO32sS8s)
5 Minecraft (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmB9b5njVbA)
6 Warlords II Deluxe (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYc-dTeiaIo)
7 Shadow of the Colossus (haven't played the remake yet!) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFgusTYInas)
8 Heavy Rain (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXYAwAfJZJg)
9 Morrowind (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr3TCWPlDrw)
10 Zelda BOTW? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rPxiXXxftE)

VHS/DVD CONVERSION
I would've been pounding out some VHS conversion this week, but my parents are visiting, staying at my place. Sucks that I have to reconvert a ton for a couple reasons: lost backup files when my lappy died (probably about 3 VHS tapes worth, but also converted another 3 tapes with bad audio (probably accidentally set the audio capture to mono instead of stereo). Urgh, such insignificant mistakes that nobody will notice the correction of, but need to be fixed. What a pain. And I'm still running into issues with converting most DVDs. It'll probably come down to using screen capture software like OBS to convert most of the DVDs.

I'm still converting the tapes/discs that I haven't got permission to publish just so that I have them on file for my own viewing (actually have Feet on Fire and BOTS on YouTube, just as private), but also for the future when, for example, Vasek decides, okay the world can have Feet on Fire now, and I can upload even after the DVD has deteriorated. VHS actually lasts much longer than standard DVD from an archival perspective. If I remember from school, VHS generally lasts like 20 years, while a DVD lasts like 5? Unless you're using archival gold discs.. which last a bit longer, but still not as long as VHS I don't think?

EDIT:
Found this post from 6 years ago. They've stayed pretty consistent, though the orders have shifted around a little:

That is crazy counterintuitive, and I would never have guessed that in a million years. Learn something new every day!

Hey cool, thanks for watching! That was my first stream ever.

I'm glad to hear your recovery is going well so far. Kinda a little jealous you're getting to play so many games. You ever try the Bioshock games out? If so what did you think?

Thanks guys.
had my first session back just tonight.
Still unsure how it went since usually I won't feel the effects until the day after, but right now, 4 hours after the end of the session I feel better than when I started the session. I started out just kicks, clippers, and osii. Actually before Maciej and Alex showed up Mike and I played around with weird kicking stuff like shin kicks, calf kicks on the inside instead of outside.. I don't remember what else. Mike hit shin kick back to back, which is suprisingly really hard! I did the same super basic stuff for the first half hour after the others showed up too.

I also took multiple breaks. 3 times? Instead of just playing the whole 2-3 hour session and feeling the effects afterward, I wanted to gauge what I was doing to myself. After each break I pushed up the intensity a little bit. After the first I started doing spinning, ducking, and BOPs. Then I added some more variety of spinning and ducking. And then I tried a bit of stepping. And that was about the extent of what I did. Long, consistent runs, though.

I had one run of 20 butterflies > 20 osii > 20 ducking clippers x2.5-ish. So about 155 contacts.
Also had a run of ~9.5 rotations of spinning clipper > ducking clipper > gyro clipper > ducking clipper [repeat], so about 80-something contacts.

Most everything else was just same tricks but a bit more freestyled.
Ankle feels weak, but after the session it feels much better. And I kind of feel like playing is maybe the best thing for it? Clipper crank to strengthen my ankle muscles? I guess we'll see. Long weekend here in Canada, so no session on Monday which is for the best for me. Rest and see what's up until Friday again.

Oh yeah, new tricks: diving and zulu calf kicks, and knee kicks

VIDEO GAMES
Ken: I tried Bioshock... Infinite? #3? I dunno. I have trouble enjoying 1st-person games. They all look the same to me. I heard the story is great in 3, but I just couldn't get into it. If you could play in 3rd person I probably would've given it a better chance. Yeah, I'm thankful that I'm able to play so many video games. But also kind of wish I was spending more time doing other things. Probably once I'm done Zelda, though because there's so much to do in that game I've really been milking it before finishing the main game.

Ryan: A better way is if you're playing survival mode but on a server with friends/family! My brother hosts a server just for the 3 of us brothers, wives, and my gf. It's so much more fun to be able to share creations and visit each other's castles and stuff! My gf is amazing with redstone. She made a rail duper -- infinite rail! I was working on a villager spawner, which in turn is a golem and iron farm! Haven't played in forever, but we had some hilarious moments, like when I accidentally mined the brick out from under my girlfriend and she fell right into lava (and all of her awesome gear died too...). Or when we were attacked by a ghast's fireball and instead of blocking the fire out from us, I accidentally blocked her into it. lol. So fun. But such a time sink too! Actually, when I was doing my undergrad, for my English course I would listen the audio books instead of reading and just mine at the same time, since the mining part is so mindless.

UPDATE: feel awesome the day after! And I only iced a little bit.

Thanks guys!
Oh, weird, it's been so long since I've played that I didn't even think to update the blog. I think it's been 2 weeks? It was a really fun session. Ankle still feels really weak, but I managed, and played harder than last time, though toned it down about halfway through because I tweaked it a bit. I guess I'll see in the morning how I truly held up. Didn't actually play too well, but I was too happy to just be playing at all. I was looking forward to this like every single day.

MACIEJ
Before I forget, some of Maciej's (his name is pronounced "MAH-chyehk") combos:
-flurry > pigbeater > dod swirl [repeat]
-flurry > pixie blender [repeat]
-a run with jani, sunil, and fury all BSOS?
-a run with almost both nemesii and arch nemesii (dropped on the last arch I think)
-9 fearless, his record (bed > phoenix REP > blurry whirl x2 > blurriest x2 > PS whirl > almost spinning whirl, which he totally could've hit, but kind of just stopped for some reason?)
-clownface BSOS (I don't think I've ever seen that before...)

ME
Aw, now anything I say about myself is going to sound dumb. Lol.
Oh, a kind of neat highlight was that Alex has been trying to hit matador BSOS for every session that I've missed apparently. I thought I would try to give some feedback, and hit it every single time I tried, both sides, lol. Felt cool. And then Alex was, like, "yeah, that's what I want do!" Haha. I can't do nuclear because of my bad hip, so I just don't do it, but it felt cool to be able to pull that off. I hit it quite a few times too. Like maybe 10? Mostly on the "bad side", which is the hip that doesn't hurt. Also felt cool because it was something that Maciej couldn't do 8) (though I'm sure he'd be way better than me at it if he tried for 2 minutes. He gave it a few attempts and just got one side.)

I had a 50-some freestyle run, which felt good.
I hit 62 gyro clippers > hand catch (because I started to feel nauseous lol) Probably my record by at least 10... I may have done 50-some before? I don't remember.
20 spinning clippers BS
a sandwhich run where I BSOSed mobius, then BSOSed gyro DLO, then dropped BSOSing the mobiuses again
Hmmm... not too much else. Was struggling with run length and also trying to feel out what I could do without hurting myself
maybe that's it for me?
Oh, dammit, I forgot to do a new trick! I'll have to make up next session.
And actually, the new tricks from last session I'd already hit before. I read my list wrong. They should have been SET from knee and calf as well as kicked with knee and calf... Oh, actually, I did hit a new record, so I'm gonna count that.

ALEX
Alex seemed to be taking my advice to heart and actually focused more on some basics. His style is a bit wild and I tried to give him feedback about working on that without coming off as a dick. I think he was more receptive to that than I expected. I think it was even a Maciej video where someone commented saying something along the lines of how his torso stays stationary while his legs dex and that was what I was trying to explain to Alex that he should work on as a foundation. I hope he understands what I tried to teach. I don't feel comfortable harping on it a ton because I don't want him to think that I think he's bad or anything. It's hard giving constructive criticism sometimes...

Oh yeah, then while I was sitting out for a while, Maciej asked me for challenges. I gave him Xanabox(?) -- reaper > double switch > paradon [repeat]. He hit it after a few times around the "circle" -- he seemed excited, so I assume he hadn't hit it before? I gave Alex reaper BSOS, but he upped it himself to reaper > double switch BSOS. I don't think he hit it. He did say that he hit his record for number of contacts of DLO > drifter repeat. He did like... 16-ish contacts?

Oh yeah! And we ended the session on a cooperative game of... what do you even call it. He hits a 3-add, then I hit the same one and add one, and back and forth, but we're not trying to get the other person out, we're trying to see how far we can go. I think we got to about 6, since there isn't much overlap in our games and we ended up doing dense toe tricks... we had a few different runs, but 6 was our best.

BEST OF ERIK CHAN VIDEO
This is a really long post, but I've also been working on putting together a best of Erik Chan video. I've been going through all of my YouTube videos and highlighting the best stuff, and then going through and highlighting the best of all of that... I think I'm just gonna use OBS (a screen capture program) straight from the fullscreen YouTube clips... so not best quality, but I don't want to have to go hunt down all of those raw files (which I do have on various drives somewhere...) Might actually start putting it together tonight if I'm close enough to going through the final videos. I have a track I'm pretty excited to use, but will have to kind of play around with it and cut and paste to make it longer. I hope it's not too noticeable since I'm not a particularly musical person.

STAR WARS REBELS
Finally seeing Black Panther tomorrow. Can't wait!
Oh! And I just caught-up on Star Wars Rebels. Spoilers if you ever plan on watching the series and haven't, but one of the main character Jedi finds a Jedi temple where he has the power to alter space and time. He happens to find Ahsoka (Vader's Jedi apprentice) fighting Vader at the time of her death, and just pulls her out through a portal into her future... Super crazy. Then Palpatine tries to capture him to get the power of the temple... Craazy episode. Almost worth watching the entire series itself (which is a bit of hit or miss, since it's mostly geared toward kids...) This show is canon, though, so that's pretty bonkers that Palpatine almost got hold of this which would have basically given him control over all existence...

I think Maciej should be able to do way more fearless.
62 gyro clippers is a lot. Sounds dizzying. (IF that's even a word)
I like that idea of doing a best of video, and I think it will work fine to just trim the clips from youtube, for a start it will be like a million times faster.

I often find myself refraining from giving advice in order to not sound like a big jerk (especially for newer players). Not that I have the occasion to give advice that often. But I think Alex is at the point where he is improving a whole lot so working on those fundamentals will help him to take the next step.

Lol, yeah Maciej can do 8 fearless on command basically. Maybe he just doesn't care about it much?
Alex has been working more on BOP form recently, which I think is a good direction for him.
Thanks guys, yeah, I'm happy with the 62, but can probably do more. I don't usually get sick from something like that, though I have been having just random nausea in general recently. I'm getting a camera down my throat in a couple weeks to look into that. Actually, on that note, I had a bad cramp all session today that kinda held me back, but I was pushing harder tricks and links for the first time in a while.

Also something weird happened on Monday. We played, but I was getting winded way faster than usual. Then I was getting a weird pressure behind my eyes. And then at one point I'm pretty sure I blacked out for like 3-5 seconds. I've never blacked out before. But I was so dizzy, and felt weird, and my vision disappeared briefly while I was mostly conscious. So I stopped the session there. Yikes. Today I didn't have anything like that again.

Oh last session Maciej kept footing flurry > phasing near swirl [repeat] on both sides. What else. He hit superfly > scorpion's tail repeat today. Blurriest swirl BSOS I think?

I hit blaze > pixie whip repeat. Felt good since I've been losing my flip blazing set. I was doing a bunch of vortexes. Don't think I missed any? I think I'm ready to try for vortex > mobius BSOS. I gave it a couple shots, but didn't push it and had the cramp. I had spinning whip > gyro repeat. I dunno What else really. Footed double spinning clipper x2 both sides. Don't think I've done that before. Oh and Maciej gave me a great tip for furious. I footed jani, which I've only hit a couple times before, but couldn't push flip because my ankle is still weak. Oh, I did some flurries, which felt awesome.

New tricks were calf-set diving calf kick, knee-set diving knee kick, and also both zulu

Thanks for the concern Daniel! Will look into it if it happens again.
TJ, he just said to hold the bag on my clipper longer before beginning dexes, so advice specifically to the form I was using I guess.

Maciej and I had a fun duo session today.
We mostly gave each other challenges, shared challenges for the majority. First was 5x 5s BSOS, so 10 total in a run:
Maciej's was something like bed, blurriest, blurrier, spinning whirl, and blurry whirl?, dropped on the flip ps whirl (bonus)
Mine was spin duck mirage, spin duck butt, spin duck osis, blurriest, rev whirlygig, dropped on the second rev mullet (bonus)

What else. Oh, Maciej challenged me to blurrier > ripwalk repeat > blurriest > sidewalk repeat, which I got in a couple tries. I dunno what else.

New tricks: atomic toe stall, tapping toe stall, atomic inside stall, tapping inside stall
