Yes, great guy. Super positive. Very encouraging. I felt I was also trying to do more tricks on both sides, probably just playing with someone else, it's not something I focus on so much on regular sessions. I've hit alpine legbeater a few times before, and maybe even alpine atomsmasher, whatever that's called. I find ducking those atomic sets pretty hard though.

I have just been having some small sessions each day but it's been a good while since I got in a proper session (say 1 hour or more). Maybe sometime this week, I might get that. I'm off to see this band The Butterfly Effect, this time in Newcastle. That's quite a way away, probably 5 or 6 hours. I haven't booked my travel there, will probably go with bus and train, though driving has some appeal. Not much though, as it's probably cheaper to go on the bus. I have contacted a freestyle football guy up there, Dylan and we will probably have a session.

I wasn't there but this is a good story of the close nature of the footbag community, especially in Australia. Dyalan told me the story, so it was him and a few others kicking in Newcastle (probably Ian and maybe Jason Po). And they are kicking away and a lady comes up to them and asks, "do you know Matt Baker". Of course they do, and she says "well, I'm his Mum". Small world. Though actually I may not have ever met him. We had planned a session when I was first in Canberra and that didn't work out, the next time I contacted him he had moved to Europe.

Here's a little something from today. I was struggling to get any consistent runs but this one came out a lot better than the other ones.

Derek has put up a couple of pixie ducking tricks which are crazy. It makes me happy because ages ago I said, hey why don't you do some more pixie ducking stuff. It also makes me sad, because I will probably never hit pixie ducking eggbeater. That's a wild trick. I'm actually not even very good at pigbeater and only ok at eggbeater.

Yeah, ducking pigbeater is bonkers. I'll never hit it either!
I also don't think I've ever met Matt.
Alpine atom smasher is called Skull Smasher. Don't think legbeater has a name.

The legbeater version could be called brain beater, although that also sounds like masturbation...

Today I got in a proper session, getting closer to 2 hours.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BgPhpsUFchE

I had a couple of good runs, it was a 20x20 session. I believe I am now up to 4 for the year, as I hadn't done any for quite a while. I actually played in a new pair of Quantums. With the Lavers that I've had for a while now, I haven't been able to get the consistency for that kind of thing, so I was impressed to be able to do it in the first outing with some different shoes. Hopefully they can last a while, but based on the other two pairs, I'm not expecting much.

Copey sent me a text to ask if I'm going to see The Butterfly Effect next week, he's going too. I could have said, and last week and this week and so on, but I just said yes. Quite a few friends are going there so it should be a fun night.

The longest run in today's session was 60. Was pretty happy with that one. There was also a run of about 30 which started with pixie dso and then had fog soon after. It was good to get in a longer session as just yesterday I was saying I hadn't done that in a while.

Props on the long runs and the 20x20s. I've been putting off my 20x20s recently, I guess because of my injury, but now you'v reminded me that I want to get back into it. Always feels so good to get a 20x20 session in :)

It's a great feeling to tick another one off. I also think I misled myself and put myself for one less than I've done, so I think that's five for me now. Lucky I have a different thing where I track all the stuff I've been doing, which I previously congratulated myself on doing 4 lots of 20 x 20. What really gets me though are the finally ones - one day I'm just going to smash through with a 100+ contact run and that will make things very easy.

It seems motions are in fashion. There was a video today from Lon and Jim where they were both doing a lot of motion stuff. Jim always does lots of motions actually. Interesting though, because people were like "I've never seen stepping ss motion" but actually even I have hit that trick. And I hit it a few times tonight after quite a number of beers. I've hit quite a lot of motion tricks now, at least on strong side.

I'm a bit intrigued about this "symp motion" - Pawel Nowak posted something if people had hit spinning ducking symp motion. I've hit spinning ducking motion plenty of times and I've been play around with symp stuff on that, but Honza had written something in reply saying he had probably hit it, but he thought that symp motions and blenders were just kind of bails, which I have a feeling that I agree with.

Aside from that, he put up a video with lots of different new moves, one was zulu gyro toe, which I have hit before. I hit all the different varieties of ducking/diving gyro toe as I sometimes get myself confused on what's what. I've also hit things in the past like stepping ducking gyro toe and a couple of other combinations.

I had a talk with Caroline today, for quite a long time. She said she caught up with Jay recently, as he is in England also. He said he hadn't kicked in ages - and I said, I imagine nemesis was his first trick. I probably wouldn't have been far off.

There was a big bushfire around the area I grew up. Each news article I see, there comes up a familiar name from school. I don't really know anyone that lives in Tathra. Actually a friend asked me if my parents were alright. He obviously hadn't heard the news on Mum so we had a good chat in the morning.

Speaking of motion. I did a couple of motion tricks today. https://www.instagram.com/p/BgibEoxFNZa

Just a short session in the dinner break. I actually ended up with quite a long session yesterday but didn't achieve much because I was drinking beers right through it. I woke up today feeling really rough and that hasn't really changed.

I suggested double spinning motion for Jim or Lon or whoever else wants to try it. Lon said he tried it and came closer to an injury. I have tried it a couple of times but I'm way off.

I'm off to see The Butterfly Effect this week. Feels like I've said that a few times lately. Thursday is here in Canberra, which should have a lot of friends there, then Friday down to Wollongong. Then that will be that for the travels, as the baby will be coming soon enough. The due date is a bit over a month away, so it can probably come anytime. Francisca thinks it will probably arrive about 1 week ahead of schedule, but let's see.

There is a footbag guy from the US (I think) who posted in the Australian footbag group on Facebook. I think he'll be here next week for the folk festival. Hopefully we can get a kick in. I've actually got most of the Easter weekend off, so that should work well. Maybe he can get us a free ticket to the festival, though I wouldn't go otherwise as it's really expensive. I'm not much of a folk man anyway. My Dad just went to this world music festival in Adelaide last week (Womadelaide) that sounded quite good, maybe I can go sometime. He said he actually bumped into a school friend of mine down there.

Cool motions! I would like to see some motion-included drills... what about barfly > far motion > rpt?

There is a music festival here called Womad...related?

Seems to be part of a world organisation. There's actually one in Santiago too, but I never heard about that.

I don't think you'll see any complete drill from me, though my flip motion is getting better. Actually it's better than flip barfly as I found that movement really unnatural and have only hit that a few times. Maybe ripwalk>motion rpt would be achievable for me (not what the challenge was at all, but that's not a big problem, nobody is going to be watching anyway!

Going to meet with Camilo from Chile tonight, he's a freestyle football guy living in Aus. I think I mentioned him in a recent post. It's really cold and windy today, but we might get a session in the garage.

I will settle for ripwalk > motion rpt. :) I will try to do it during my next session which is in about an hour.

After I posted that I though, I don't know if I can even step out of motion. I came really close to motion>blurry whirl and did hit motion>schmoe the drill itself, we'll see about that but I actually think it's reasonably achievable with a bit of dedicated training to that.

I haven't had too many proper sessions, but I did play for a short while down by the beach in Wollongong. That means that my little run of shows and going places has finished.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bgqy3B7HCdO
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bgr57gKnkYg

The water was beautiful and the weather was great. My friend has bought a place down there close by the beach so that was great to stay there. We used to live together in the uni days, so it was fun going to the show with him and catching up. At the Canberra show I saw a lot of people I knew, which was in no way surprising. It was good fun going to all those shows.

I got in a session with Camilo as well, which worked out. I finished work at 9pm and back at 7am so I was really glad we could get in a kick at that time. He did some cool tricks with footbag, he could do butterfly reasonably well and he was able to do some of the freestyle football style tricks with the bag.

I have thought of a little project that could come in use to some people or at least be semi-interesting, which is to make a translation of freestyle football tricks into what the equivalent footbag tricks are. I find it really hard to follow the freestyle football tricks, as there is not really any system, so I just call them by their footbag names.

Maybe a model will help. I tried it my last sesh. I told myself to wait longer than I wanted before starting the stepping sets after motion.

Nice one. You made it look very easy. Today I did motion>ripwalk and had the second motion come off my foot.

In the session I also hit a few other cool things, but I just couldn't get consistency on the run length. Actually I was getting lots of consistency, on runs shorter than 10 contacts...

https://www.instagram.com/p/BgxFrnMHZEW

Big new trick for the day was pixie ducking swirl. I hit ducking swirl which I have hit before but this time it felt very easy, so I wanted to see if I could do something more. I might see if I can get stepping ducking swirl too, that's something I've been thinking of a while.

I also did pixie diving ss mirage on each side. Was trying for it back to back but that didn't work out. I think I hit a few other things too.

Caroline's parents were in town today so they dropped by and picked up a few things. That should mean more space for the garage sessions, but we have a lot of our own junk in there too.

There is actually a takraw tournament on this weekend here in Canberra. I have asked about doing a demo there but haven't heard anything back yet, but I will try and go for a watch at least.

(Edit)

Let me just add to this, had a short session in my dinner break. Got to the end of the ripwalk>motion rpt drill, just needed to catch it. If you guess the bag went splat on the ground, you are correct. I had ripwalk>motion>ripwalk quite a few times. My flip motion is pretty week, but it gets there at times.

Went for a long bike ride today (about 60km for the day, including two lakes). It was actually freezing - well not quite but only a couple of degrees above, but warmed to a really nice day.

I got in a couple of footbag stops during the day. I was really pleased with this run.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BgzyhGxHjsm

I was also pleased to get a little session in my dinner break and be hitting some better runs than I was yesterday, was able to get a few close to 20 contacts. I hit fairy diving ss mirage, that's new, that's in that clip. I've also hit in recent days some zipper set tricks. Do they get paradox if you set from xbd toe? I'm not sure, probably not.

But anyway, I have hit the equivalent of reaper on both sides from zipper set, also zipper set "pdx" eggbeater.

I still have to ride home and that's going to be a bit painful.

I feel your pain. At Worlds, a few of us Michiganders took a lovely 8 mile bike ride to a disc golf course. Stupidly, we rented cheap road bikes with hard-ass seats, so the ride back was brutal  I was sitting funny all week!

Really cool that you're messing with zipper set. Idk what the downtime component of reaper is, but could you do zipper set motion?

Yes, think I've done that one before. Reaper is far double switchover (from clipper). Pretty sure I've actually hit zipper said locomotion. I did a whole bunch of that kind of stuff last year but I haven't been playing around with it so much lately. It's a fun one, so might go back to it.

It's funny how things you do at Worlds that are completely out of the tournament can have some effect on you for the rest of the time. At the first night in Berlin (2009), we went to a bar, and instead of going the same way as everyone else (through the door probably), I thought I could see a shortcut through the carpark. This involved jumping over a really high fence and me wondering the rest of the time - I've got some weird pain in my knee. A few days later I walked past the fence and though, hmm that's really high, maybe that's got something to do with it.

This is what I was working on today. Pixie knee bump motion.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bg7cAqUnakm

This is what I was working on last night, made a new vlog. It's got a cameo from Tom Kennta, freestyle football guy I have mentioned before. He does a swirl with footbag. There's not a huge amount of footbag in this one, but there is some. I always try and manage to sneak some in.

It's funny though as this is meant to be the third showing the time we had with our visitors from Chile, but aside from a couple of brief glimpses, they're not in it. We had a great time travelling with them.
