I'm not a dad yet, and am not on here as much as I should be, but I love it when you call me big poppa.

That's a big bopper, big poppa. Who made that?

In terms of support, it's compared to a pair that have completely worn through, so they are basically like playing in socks. I got a flat tyre on my bike last night so had an unexpected walk, probably good to help with that break in period. I still haven't played much, but these are the China lavers. I have a pair of the Vietnam ones, and I think once I have these properly broken in, I will definitely notice the difference. The clipper surface feels quite good already.

Here if my first test run yesterday. https://www.instagram.com/p/BmAFldKARHz - I've been going up to that court occasionally on walks with baby Jasmine. I prefer the tennis court though, but that's in a different place.

It's my birthday next month, we're organising to have something down the coast, get a cabin and hopefully some friends and family will come along. Also hopefully the weather is a bit warmer!

Dave Leberknight made it way back when. It was regulation that anything bigger than it was too big for competition.

I've had a couple of good sessions in the garage lately. First of all, it's good to get in a proper session. Each one I have started trying to get some kicks on the new Lavers, but then I change over to the Quantums. I was doing a bit of work on a routine last night, haven't been doing that for some time, so needs a lot more work.

Maybe the sessions were not actually so consistent, but I was able to get a good clip from each of them.

This one is from last night. https://www.instagram.com/p/BmI_NM2B7jR

And the previous night with an enterrage to start the run. https://www.instagram.com/p/BmDwFo9BmmC - It's interesting I got a few positive comments about that trick, but I think I've been able to do that for about 10 years. The fact is though, I have lost a lot of consistency on it. It's a good trick though.

I get a lot of flashbacks from previous Worlds on the Facebook memories. I really hope to go again, or maybe to a tournament that's not worlds. It would be nice to line up a time that has a few tournaments in a row, that would be quite cool.

Ooh, crispy enterrage to boot.
Great tricks, Daniel!
I used to be able to do enterrage, but now I can't even do terrage, and can barely pixie

Strong session today. As for Erik's comments - it's funny what comes and goes throughout the years. Recently Dustin Rhodes posted a clip of reverse swirling guay, and I was like - hey I've done that, which I don't think is a common drink.

Anyway, onto today. The best part of it, was it went from being a pretty average day, just a standard work day, to quite a cool day with that session. It was a 20x20 session also, I think that's 12, maybe 13 for the year.

Aside from that, I hit motion sickness>locomotion - this really came out of nowhere, I just went to a handcatch after, it would have been good to try and add in something more, that might have been the moment to hit my first beast, but I didn't even expect to get the stepping set out but just had some good timing.

We've got a competition coming up in October. I've got enough maybes to go ahead with the competition, it's going to be part of the freestyle football nationals, so hopefully some of those guys will compete too. I think on stage we will do sick 3 and sick 1, possibly a rippin' run contest - I saw a video (maybe Swissjam 04 or 05) and they just had so many people on the stage at the same time, it looked awesome. It won't look anything like that, but the idea is cool.

Speaking of cool videos and jams, that Salem jam looked pretty sweet. I would love to go to an event like that. Hopefully next time I go to Worlds I can go to some other events in a nearby timeslot, let's just see what happens.

I've got a few a few concerts coming up, though not for a while.

There is this Australian band called Parkway Drive, I've been saying for a few years now they are probably the biggest band in the "metalcore" world. So they're coming out and headlining over Killswitch Engage and actually more than 10 years ago they headlined over Evergreen Terrace and that was a big deal. But now they're going to headline Wacken in Germany. I had in my thoughts to go to that in combination with my Berlin trip in '09 but the dates didn't quite work for me.

It's interesting for me as I have been following this band since 2004 and for a start, unlike most bands that I've been following since that time, they are still going uninterrupted, and now they are at this kind of stadium level. The best part of it is that they are just a bunch of bodyboarders and surfers from Byron Bay, which is a tourist town up near Brisbane. I remember reading tour diaries in magazines about their first tours of the USA and they would play in a pizza shop and then camp in the front yard or something, so they've really gone on from there. I saw them in Chile, and that was just crazy - I surfed the crowd in an inflatable boat.

So the TLDR on that is that should be cool to see them. I've done a couple of routines do the song "Looks Like Yoda", including my Worlds routine in 2015. I used the same song in the Australian competition in maybe ´05, but I think I had something like 20 drops. I think I had been planning an intermediate routine and I wasn't allowed, so I had to add an extra 30 seconds, which was all drops.

Also on their rise and whatever, all their videos have 5 million plus views, it's simply insane watching the huge crowds, especially in Europe. I think people are absolutely obsessed in Europe with them, particularly Germany.

So that was a nice footbag link to a big use of text. Not much footbag link to my next one, although when I first met Roy Klein, one of the bands we bonded over was Frenzal Rhomb. I've bought a ticket to see them on a boat. That is going to be simply insane.

This is a band with a song called "Ship of Beers" - enough said.

(and maybe I have been riding on the ship of beers tonight which is why I have so much to say...)

I think my best best is alpine blurry whirl in front, I've done that into motion sickness. I'm not really good at PS whirls, but I have done mullet. Maybe mindbender would be a possibility, but it would have to be a lucky day to hit them all in the one combo. That combo is something I've been trying for a while but really struggled with the stepping bit.

Hmm, I quite like all those bands, though I'm not particularly into Killswitch's recent albums. Haven't put much listening into them though. I love Evergreen Terrace, they are one of my all time favourite bands, though (well from what I've seen here in Australia) they don't seem to have the pulling power of other bands. Like I mentioned, Parkway headlined over them in like 05 or 06, and they weren't particularly big by that time. Now they are - and I think Killswitch Engage were at that level, but like 10 years ago. I saw them a few times in The End of Heartache era, good shows.

Another cool thing to do if I were to go and travel to a footbag tournament would be to go to some of these mega festivals etc - something like Wacken or Rock am Ring, or some of the ones in the USA. I have seen a few bands in my travels but nothing really huge. A friend did a trip through the USA a little while back and went to see a whole bunch of stuff.

This is a footbag blog, so let's talk about that. I played today in those new Lavers, they are getting more and more comfortable. I had ripped warrior>mobius come off my foot, so I can just have like a normal session with them now. It was only short session today, I was up at the shop I had to get something fixed on my bike, so played for a little while there after picking that up. I've had these last two days off work and that's always quite nice.

Anyway, speaking of travelling to footbag tournaments - I just saw Vasek is going to Japan next month for the JFC. I don't think I will be able to make that, although it would be super cool. My Dad just went to Japan recently and he really enjoyed it. Food for though, but we're looking at buying a house in the quite near future - we've now got a preapproval for a loan so it's another step along the road. So it will probably be a no to making a weekend trip to Japan - unfortunately...

I've seen ET 8 times (last time being in 2010 - I wish they would actually tour), and I don't think they were the headliners at any of the shows. There also weren't all that many people at most of them.
I agree with you about Killswitch's recent stuff. Alive Or Just Breathing was one of my favorite's all through out high school and the one after that w/ Howard Jones on vocals was ok, and then I just kind of lost interest. I still jam to that first album, though. It's fantastic.

The played here last year, playing the Alive or Just Breathing album in full - so cool to see. Then they played some newer stuff afterwards, and I thought, hmm I don't think I'd see them on a regular tour based on this. They are playing with Parkway though, so that will be fun to see. Yes I've seen Evergreen Terrace 6 times. Not for a long time though, I think also not since 2010. There were some rumours they were going to come out here a couple of years back, but then their drummer had a serious injury and that put an end to that.

Speaking of those heavy bands - thoughts on Power Trip? They're playing here next month. I've only listened to their most recent album a few times but it sounds pretty good. They seem to have a lot of hype about them, so I'm surprised they will play in Canberra. I've bought a couple of concert tickets recently, actually in the same weekend - Superjesus and Superheist. Should be a super weekend. Har har har. It should be quite fun actually and continues my theme of going to see Australian bands who peaked in the late 90s or a few years later.

See my contribution at approx 3:48 -

And here is a clip from the major contributor to my childood/early teenage years, the weekend morning music show called Recovery.

I'm also in the process of booking my trip down to Melbourne for the competition down there. I've been working on a routine as well. I'm not sure we will do a routines competition but I will at least give a demo of a routine. I think next year I would like to go to *a* competition. If I'm teaching that will just mean I have to pick my moment. I do also like the idea of going to the King's Cup for takraw next year. The people in Australia have been putting out some feelers to get more people to join the Australian team. I could do that, not sure I would make a great contribution, but Thailand is definitely a place it wouldn't be hard to get the family to.

This has already been mentioned, but I've really been enjoying the new Parkway Drive album. A bunch of songs from it came up from it after I was listening to Power Trip, though I don't think them in anyway similar. I really like the idea of seeing them in Europe some day.

I had a problem with my Instagram, there was a video that wasn't uploading properly and it was blocking any other clips. I updated the thing and was eventually able to delete that clip, it still wouldn't upload. I was happy with this run. It was from about a week ago, but it just uploaded tonight.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BnBbnu8gxWe

I did a 20x20 session in the garage the other day. I'm not sure if it's the first time I've done one there in the garage, but it may be. I drank numerous beers during the process which probably made it longer than necessary.

I've 'overheard' them a few times. By that, I mean that my wife absolutely loves them so I've heard them a few times but never really paid much attention. I had the chance to see them at Rock On The Range this year, but their set was at the exact same time as Turnstile. And I like me some Turnstile lol.

Don't know anything about Turnstile. Think I have heard the name vaguely, will have to check them out. I think I'll check out Power Trip, haven't been to a show in sometime and I met a few friends at the footy the other day who said they would probably go too.

Got myself another 20x20 session today. Not sure off the top of my head how many, but I have it on file somewhere. Maybe 14 or 15 by now, though I feel I sometimes overestimate how many I have done. I was glad to get the one done today, as I got about halfway through and I was getting a lot of 15, 16, not quite making it. Not so many highlights, aside from completing the thing. Fairy op symple butterfly. That might be a new trick for me? Quantum ss pickup, that may be new for me as well. I'm not certain about either of them actually being new, I think so though. I hit both on the first try, so that's something. One of my 20 combos today started with the first part of xanabox (reaper>dso>paradon).

Hey, we're back in transmission. I hit fairy ducking motion, which I think is new for me. https://www.instagram.com/p/BnTb343ALEl it might not actually be though, but I'm fairly sure it is. I'm sure quite a few people have, but I don't think I've ever seen that in a video or anything. It would probably take someone like Jim about 5 seconds to do. I was happy to hit it though because up until that point it was one of those sessions where I was just getting no momentum. A 20x20 idea would be way off, maybe a 5x5 would have been a better target for that day. Then you get just one trick and all of a sudden it changes from a waste of time session into something reasonably good.

I'm just booking my tickets now to go down to Melbourne. I don't think it's going to be much of a footbag competition, but at the very least I am going to do a routine demonstration, so I have been working on that. The other day I got it with one drop, so pleased with that. Got to keep working to get that more consistent. The freestyle football competition is now part of the Red Bull Street Style. In the highly unlikely event I was to win, you get a trip to Poland for the world event. That would be pretty sweet but it's obviously not going to happen.

Sick trick!
I've also never seen this before, or heard of it being hit, but like you said I'm sure it has been.
Yeah, my last session was like that too -- 20x20 was a stretch and it was super frustrating, but also, like you said, hitting even just one neat or new thing makes it worthwhile :)

Since my last post I have turned another year older. 34 years old now. Glad to still be playing footbag quite regularly and still improving. What I would like a lot is to go to some competitions and test that improvement. Doesn't look like we'll get the numbers for the event in Melbourne, but I will still put something together. I've been working on a routine so I can give that a run there in front of a bit of a crowd.

I've put together a couple of vlogs in recent times.

Second one has a fair bit of footbag in it. I was experimenting with a little bit of trials stuff. It's fairly basic what I managed to capture, but something a little bit different. I've bought myself a new gopro style camera. I decided to go with a cheaper version and see how that goes. It's handy for making the vlogs, though as Ken showed with his recent video, they are not particularly need for footbag.

We spent the weekend down at the beach, had a bunch of people come and celebrate the birthday, that was a really good time.

Thanks guys, it was a fun weekend away. Bit unfortunate about the kids being sick. I did the routine the other day with one drop again. I dropped it on the last trick. The final trick is motion sickness which might be pushing it a bit, but in the runthroughs I'm hitting that quite regularly. In terms of hard tricks in adds it has a spinning ducking osis, a phoenix and a short shuffle section. I think it is progressing reasonably well though.

There is an event at the preschool next week, I might see if I can give a demonstration of it there, that would be useful.

I got that camera in the mail today. That came quick, just two days I think. I forgot to order a memory card though, so I picked up one of those this evening. See how it goes. I've nearly got my vlog #50 ready. I will see how things go with the new camera and all other life stuff for how many more I can make in the rest of the year.
