mod idea

i know im not some big experienced freestyler, but i had an idea for a mod.

ok, on the laver cut out all the inside. like, cut it all out so theres nothing, no mesh, no leather, etc. right to the inside.

then take some fabric, and cut it roughly into that trapezoid shape of the inside. make this material really thin, and pretty grippy, like a nice couch fabric or something, but thinner. then take this material, and sew it to the inside of the shoe. thus your whole inside is now this really flexible grippy fabric type stuff. it would look stupid as hell, but i think this would be cool.

gimme your thoughts.

I think it would be a good idea if implemented correctly, but it would take a hell of a lot of work, and could easily be messed up.

dave, i even thought about this my self, but my thought was to give it a little more material than was needed so it was almost like a pouch for the bag. i think it's a cool idea, and i might even fiddle with it a bit on my old pair.

it just seems like you would be making a whole different shoe. and i dont know if it would improve it that much more.

I think it might help, but I wouldn't do it, I love my Laver's too much.

I wouldn't go so far as to click "stupid idea", but I don't think I'll be doing this. I want to try de-leathered leather lavers, but material substitution is going a little far, especially considering my lack of tailoring skills.

I say go for it! Use an old pair and try it out. I would, but I only own one pair and they are still recovering from trying to cut out the inner layer.

Good to see you thinking. I did this to 2 or 3 pairs of shoes in my course of shoe research. It's really time consuming, but if done well, can be beneficial. For point of reference, I've used Ultra Suede, Ultra Suede Light (facile), and elastic mesh (thinnest fabric ever!). If you actually go thru the trouble, try replacing the toe panel, too. You will see a big difference in feel and grip. Ultra Suede Light was my favorite of the 3 materials. Also, don't replace the outside panel! You need the support of a strong fabric there.

My friend Brian (MJK) has some shoes with the whole inside cut out and he doesn't like them anymore like they are, so he might try this.
