bag pick up questions

alright ive been trying to do this for a few days but i just cant. ive noticed people, jeremy mirken especially, like to flick the bag up from their toe set when starting a run or something. ive tried this and it justs goes flying out about 6 feet. i cant seem to get it straight upward. any tips on this?

P.S. ive noticed that mirken tends to toe pickup the bag off the ground ... i thought this was a big no no? jeremy, whats your opinion on this? thnx

I think there's a bit of confusion here.

Unemployed, the key in doing the 'flicky' toe kicks is to completely relax your ankle. Use your leg to whip the bag off of your foot. Bring it up a little bit and then push down hard with your knee to whip it up. Someone will explain this better. Frankly, I'm not very good at it, but I think this is how it works.

Also, you're referring to Mirken rolling the bag from the ground onto his foot using his other foot, right? Not a 'scrape' pickup. This isn't nearly so bad, but I still wouldn't do it with someone else's bag, and I try not to make a habit of doing it with mine, especially on rough surfaces.

Most of Jeremy's vids are shot in his kitchen though, so I spose the linoliem floor isn't going to scrape the bag up too much.

I would never scrape the bag hard against the concrete or anything.

I DO, however sometimes gently roll the bag onto my foot using the other foot. Not with anyone else's bag of course.

From what I understand, Mirken has a vast number of footbags at his disposal, and therefore is probably not too concerned about taking perfect care of his bags, because he has a bunch of others he can use. Therefore he probablys opts for lazyness over bag life, when picking up the bag off the ground.

It's a no no to do to someone elses bag, but if it's your bag, you're free to do what you want with it.

yea...this used to be one of my major bad habits...then i realized it totally killed my bags so i weened myself off of doing it quite a while ago...probably after my 2nd or 3rd bag was destroyed in record time!

BIG BIG NO NO!

I was hacking in school and a guy came up and tried to toe scrape it onto his foot, even though I told him a million times not to. He ended up ripping a dirty big hole in the side of my new sandmaster

Yeah i know. I patched it up pretty well but now sands starting to come out of it again where the rip was...sucks

Use some kind of glue. My Aurora got a few holes in it and leaked heaps of sand so I used contact glue (its all I had and it works) and it stopped sand leaking. Things is I need to put more sand in but I havent yet so I dont use it.

Do you scrap the bag up with your toes when its on the ground?
