jobs notation

Post by ToeGuiltless »

This has probably been suggested many times before,
but since there are more double dex sets now than there
used to be I thought this might be more useful now.

Maybe we should use ">>" to mark the set of a move.
Anything before the ">>" is while the bag is on the way up,
and anything after it, is while the bag is on the way down.

Pixie Eggbeater:
toe > same in >> op out > op out > same toe

Sailing Legover
toe > same in > op out >> op out > same toe

It's such a small change, and would clear up confusion.

Thats easy enough, doesn't really have any effect on the system at all, so it would be easy to add. Personally, I'd like to see crossbody delay only be one add. I think that would simplify difficultly in jobs. This has been suggested many times before, by many different people.

I agree with Chris. Either throw out the cross body or paradox after stepping set, but not both.

I'd go for bar the pdx fter stepping.. I'd also forget about the delay add.. it's a bit ridiculous nowadays..
I can imagine that back in the days, delays must have been a novelty thing!

If you do both options then Blurry Drifter become a three add, which would be the same as a Ripwalk. So we shouldn't do both.

the thing is, no matter what modifications are done to the add system someone is going to say:

oh but look, now [move 1] is worth this and [move 2] is worth this.. that won't work!!

so I actually think that it's no use AT ALL trying to change the add system. On the other hand creating a new system would be a good idea. The Add system is good at what it was supposed to be used for: describing components of a trick. not describing difficulty of a trick.

So if someone wants to create a difficulty system that'd be a great idea.
i personnaly think no system should be made; Just a massive list of all tricks that have been hit and a difficulty score given to each trick...

But then people'll be saying "who decides what's hard or not?" and "Well i can hit dlo real easy and not atw so it's unfair" or stuff like that...

That's the kind of system they use for wakeboarding (i think). It seems to work for them.

GREAT IDEA! That saves space, time, it's easy to understand, it looks cool (hey anything to make jobs look NOT boring...)

EDIT: The thing for wakeboarding... do they have as many tricks as us?

no they don't have as many tricks as in footbag. but then a again I could be wrong seeing as there's like 10 diff ways to grab your board, you just take your core tricks (hundreds of them i think) and multiply that number by ten.
but the wakeboarders have a wide scoring range: easier tricks worth about a hundred points and the harder ones worth several thousand. Again this is all from memory so I'm not 100% sure.

I think for footbagging purposes just giving a difficulty rating of 1 to 10 would be enough...
But I strongly doubt that this idea has any chance of becoming anyuthing more than what it is: just an idea.

i definitely like the >> for set idea. i've heard it before and i liked it then. it doesn't change the worth of anything.

i dislike the idea of the cross body delay getting 1 add. i dont think jobs should be a way of describing difficulty in a move.

i don't think a system could ever be made that tells how difficult a move is, because everyone learns tricks in their own order. if everyone were to rank a list of tricks from easiest to hardest, everyone's list would turn out slightly different.

yes but on everyone's list an atw will allways be easier than a double and that will allways be easier than a triple. I think such lists/polls should be submited to some kind of commitee. Say if 10% of players thought whirl was of difficulty 2, 60% of difficulty 3 nd 30% of dicciculty 4 then the commitee would say: it's a 3.2 and leave it at that OR round it to 3.. then the probleme would be: who gets to vote?

it could be that all the competitors get to vote (so the scores are refinalised every competition) butm like in diving, the top X and bottom X amount are removed to avoid possible errors due to different interpretation of difficulty and cheating. it's not a very practical system though, and it assumes people are of the the approximate same level so you couldn't use this type of competition where skill levels differ too greatly as the average score would then be distorted.

Why not let everyone in IFPA or the HoF vote? I'm not in either (yet.. IFPA soon hopefully) but I figure.. let some big organization vote on the organization of the sport, we'll have our say anyways.. we can always ask for changes!
