Which is more important?

This is something which has been nagging me for quite a while now. Im curous to hear what some people have to think on the matter. I voted style.

Id like to clarify style as the way a trick is performed, and not the choice of tricks someone does.

I didn't vote. It's too hard a question. Both are important. However unlike a few people - I think if you can't hit something flip, you should keep hitting it - just work on flipside as well. It's stupid in my opinion to cut out a move on both sides because at the moment you can only do it on one.

hmm

well both sideness is great and really fun to watch and shred but I dont think people should give up tricks on one side if they cant hit it flip. At one point every move we hit can only be done on one side even if that time maybe short. Like I side doing every trick both sides in a run is great but if you can hit swirlwind only one side I say hit it that one side and then rip other stuff both sides.
Style is important but I think it is much harder to change your style then becoming both sided. People kinda have their own style and although it may evolve its still most likely much like the style that they started with. Some people hit moves that look better then when others hit moves, this too shouldnt really stop people from doing moves their own ways but I personally wouldnt want to hit something that looked ugly

they are both like equally important, but as jon said both sidedness can be learned, a style just develops and ur mostly stuck with it
tho it can be cleaned up as Ales has shown me

I used to be known to the French footbaggers as the guy with not an ounce of style in his game. So I started cleaning it up. It's definatly possible, it just takes a lot of time.
And you need to watch lots of footage.

I personnaly vote for style.

Both sided is somewhat overrated in my opinion. I think it's a good thing to strive for but over-concentration on both sided shred is a silly limit to place on yourself. Like, when a player *always* hits a trick and then immediately will not continue the string before hitting on the other side.. yawn..

flame away you both sided freaks!

edit: So what I'm saying is... If it looks good and is fun to watch.. it's stylish. Both sided is not necessarily part of the equation. It's all about what is asthetically pleasing to the eye.

Nick mentioned that he is considering style as the way the trick is performed, and not the choice of tricks someone does. Thus, when you are considering style (in this case), you must think about how an individual trick is executed, completely seperated from any context in which it may be executed.

agree, you cant really compare bothsidedness to style. i choose both. my drifters used to look horrible. and when i started playing i certainly had a different style. ive changed it by doing things like standing up more straight when i play, and relaxing my body more. you can definately change your style.

i voted for bothsidedness.
but i think i would rather have good style than be bothsided, after thinking about it.

I guess i phrased the question a little badly since quite a few of you guys seem to find it a bit hard to answer. Heres an example:

Youve been playing 5 months and have finally nailed your whirl on your good side

. 1 problem: Its butt ugly

. What do you do concentrate on first? Work on it till its perfect, work on hitting it flipside?

My opinion is that I definetly dont think that both-sidedness is THAT important. A good example is Ryan Mulroney. I mean, yeah hes really one sided but that KILLER style and just the sheer

factor is impressive, and just makes him on of my favorite players to watch.

Thats not to say that it ISNT important! I mean, its terrible watching someone who is TOO 1 sided, it just gets annoying. The string length is short, and moves get repeated alot. My current emphasis on my training right now is definetly working on my flipside.

I put extreme options on the poll because i wanted to know how many extreme opionions their were on the subject.

Actually Ryan is quite both sided- he can hit almost every move on flipside, but he just doesn't show it in circles so much because he shreds just for fun and not for showing what can he hit.

I voted for both sides. Eventually it will be important for both sidedness...however, i don't consider style to be "unimportant"...very tough vote, but the words "both sides" i hear almost constantly and nearly ever hear style

I voted for style, because if I could hit, say, ripstein, but on only one side, I would still hit it because it's a hard move. But if it was always the'd and ugly, I wouldn't hit it.

I voted style, despite my STRONG affinity for both-sidedness. I'd rather see a beautiful whirl one side than a shitty one barely caught on both. Though I also believe to have a truly good style you need to be at least somewhat bothsided.

I think that as more players are able to learn the same moves, the game is going to start progressing in a more style-concentrated basis in the near future. Though I could be wrong :p but I doubt it.

i agree: style is the future.

but in response to the updated question, i would rather work both sides whirls and THEN clean them up. i would skool them together and then clean them up together. or do both at once. but not one-sided.
