I think people thought global cooling was occuring because there was a mini ice age during the middle ages.

I disagree that 1+1=2. Therefore there is no concensus. You will be hard pressed to find absolute concensus on any issue, and this means very little. The point is there is enough evidence to show an 'unnatural' rise in global temperatures that corresponds with an increase in human-made CO2 emissions, although I'm not sure I agree with Jeremy in saying that we are experiencing 'considerable' differences. From my own research New Zealand has not, not now, but we will if the trend continues. I'm sure you can find evidence if you look at some UNDP, IPCC or Worldwatch Institute reports.

As with any issue warming will have a whole host of impacts, both positive and negative, though mainly negative in this case.

Whether or not signing the Kyoto cost is a different issue, perhaps one for another thread. Personally I would give full support to a protocol that made countries put a certain % of their GDP into R&D for alternative energy sources or something like that, because even if all countries signed Kyoto it would change little. If I remember correctly the figure was something like it will save 2cm of sea rise over 100 years. I don't have a cite for it right now though although I can get one.

Interesting that you point out (sPinko) that there would be positives and negatives of global warming.

I bet Northern Canada would become a paradise, with all those lakes, and a nice (new) warm climate.

And Siberia would be even more attractive for expeditied Chinese annexation.

I think some of us agree that there is no scientific consensus.

Science or not, the part that really bugged me was that I would have to hear 10 times a day on the news about how WE wouldn't sign the treaty because we didn't care, when all those complainer nations had NO intention of signing the treaty themselves.

The Republicans demanding an apology at all is what's pathetic to me.

They will never get one.

Democrats issue many crybaby demands for apologies from Republicans(who usually issue one as they cowardly resign their position). But it doesn't work the other way.

Apologies are meaningless anyhow.

Any schmuck on the street can parrot enemy propaganda, but when a high public official does it, it certainly harms our guys.

When Kennedy and Pelosi etc... get up their and run their mouth, you know those clips are rebroadcast as propaganda material.

If Bush had asked for a war declaration when all this started, Pelosi and Kennedy could be jailed for sedition. But we know Bush is to wimpy to do that, even if he had the power(maybe he does have the power, like I said, to wimpy)

Then he will nominated and will win the Nobel Peace prize(as I wildy predicted before) and Bush will lose.

OR

He will be released to the Iraqis, then seize power and take over again, costing Bush the election.

Sounds impossible, but you know it could happen.

Or he will be tried for crimes against humanity and sentanced either to death (most likely) or life imprisonment (most just) and will spend the rest of his life behind bars (but this will be a longer time if the latter is carried out)

You are probably right.

I think life imprisonment is not an option, he will be a lightning-rod for former loyalists and the populace will be paralysed with fear as long as he lives and is in Iraq.

A trial and execution is the only prudent action. And his execution must be very public, so the world can see.

Then he would be torn to pieces by the mob and the scraps of his body will be auctioned on eBay.

Just out of curiosity, have gas prices been somewhat dropping recently? it went from around $2.30-ish down to about $2.05 in my normal spot, and today I found it for $1.99.

If so, I think it's a ploy to get americans to vote for Bush though their wallet (it works too, sadly.)
