gyro requires a dex?

Post by Muffinman »

ive decided to make a poll to try to determine a general percentage of who considers gyro "this" and who considers gyro "that".

this came from the peeking thread, as myself and others who have been posting believe gyro to be simply a half backspin. for example we believe half backspinning clipper (crispy osis if "crispy" exists without a dexterity...) to be the same as gyro clipper. whereas the opposition believes gyro clipper does not exist because it involves no dexterity. i realize that gyro began as a half backspin with no plant and at least one dexterity required. but i find that it is easier to share the term for any half backspinning move. and i believe that these are the feelings of the majority.

this poll will hopefully tell us how many view gyro as simply a half backspin and how many view gyro as a plantless half backspin with at least one dexterity. vote away!

So basically this poll will tell us who knows that gyro is a half backspin, no plant, and at least one dex... and who is wrong :)
While we're at it, let's agree that 2 + 2 = 22.
While voting the 1st option may show what you understand Gyro to be, it also shows that you are under the wrong impression.

There is not one way and then the oppositions way. There is one way and there is the wrong way.

Some people have this whole attitude of "screw the inventors", but we're talking about one of Kenny's concepts and if you learned it to be something else then you simply learned it wrong and you should shove a footbag up the @$$ of the person who taught you the wrong thing.

Its not "Gyro", its spinning clipper from a different setting foot, as butterfly is still butterfly when its set from a different foot, and osis is still osis when its set from a different foot. Its just another good way of doing a spinning clipper.

nope, for one very simple reason. IN the beginning a Gyro was declared to be a non-planting back half spin involving a dex with the setting leg as the first component of the trick.

It takes a while to get used to using, but the original difinitions are quite fun.
Yesterday I hit fog->blurrywhirl->half back spinning legover->blurrydrifter->blur->blur->blur->pixie butterfly->non-planting half back spinning ducking corpse grinder . . .

--Tsiangkun
and 2+2 DOES equal 22.

System.out.println("2" + "2");
}

$ java foo

I like to use the trem spinning same side, when refering to spinning same side moves that don't fit the TT2 definition.
ie. spinning ss butterfly is gyro butterfly with a plant.

I very much understand what gyro clipper means and don't get offended by it.

As far as I know, they cannot according to the intended definition of Gyro.
Just to be sure, I've e-mailed Kenny so that I can be positive because I don't want to speak for him and I don't have the patience to go sifting through 215,487 posts from the old e-mail list.

Programers. Cant live with them, cant live without them!
:D

gyro [JEER-oh, ZHEER-oh, Gk. , YEE-roh]

A Greek specialty consisting of minced lamb that is molded around a spit and vertically roasted. The meat is usually sliced, enfolded in a PITA and topped with grilled onions, sweet peppers and a cucumber-yogurt sauce.

Gyros are yummy!

Can't you also pronounce "Gyro" as "Jiro"... with the y like "eye"? I dunno.. that's how I've been pronouncing it. Is that wrong?

I know what the intended definition of gyro is - but I voted for the first option because that's how I think gyro should be defined. We don't need to get stuck on convention - lets do things because the work - not because it's how it was first done.

Dex -

That's the only definition of gyro that matters. ;)

Big -

That's how you pronounce the greek entree. The footbag component is pronounced JEYE-row.

Confirmation from Kenny arrived and it is the second option. So yes Senor Grommet you are correct in your assessment that none of those moves would be gyro. They would be peeking or spinning depending on which foot was doing the delaying.
