Why do we choose to use such silly, limiting definitions?

The way I see it is simple. You have Spinning Same and Spinning Opp (Far or Paradox). Unfortunately, for years the majority of players were taught that "spinning" was Spinning Opp and "gyro" was Spinning Same, but then we learned our definition of Gyro was not accurate. A Spinning Same move done with a non-planting dex is Gyro.

So if y'all can accept my suggestion, this debate can die... but I guess there's always a disagreement and nothing is ever official in this sport. The only real change is that people would actually have to say Opp or Same, rather than let it be implied one way or the other.

well another issue is:
is gyro mirage still gyro if you plant? isnt that just the players chosen style? apparently people still count pdx whirl paradox if you plant. whats the difference?

Gyro Mirage and Spinning Same Mirage would not count as unique, however for stylistic purposes call them by different names just like eggeater/eggplant and torque/crispy torque.
It's a small but manageable issue.
This is how you should judge the moves in a competition as well.

Of course we can always get rid of Peeking and Spinning Same Side and extend Gyro to include the things that Peeking and Spinning Same would cover. That way we could just have Spinning and Gyro to explain it all. But, that won't happen anytime soon because GYRO IS A NON-PLANTING HALF BACK SPINNING SAME DEX

Gyro should be spinning ss anyways even if you do plant it just makes it easier.And if you dont plant its just style.Gyro mirage does looks funny when planted though.

Anyways will this ever be fixed or are we all just going to confuse
all the newbies by going by are own opinion/definition of what
we learned gyro to be.......or what.

I will change my definition of gyro if someone will come up with a
reasonable concept term that people will understand.

A Blurry Osis does not exist. It is stepping op osis or crispy torque you are referring to.
Usually the uniquesness is left up to the discretion of the judges.
AND THEY ARE NOT UNIQUE they are merely different styles of the same trick.
