I have to write a paper about anything of my choice. I chose Footbag.
My topic is "Footbag: Sport or pastime?"
The only problem is I can't seem to find the thread that talks about that. If anyone can point in the right direction that would be appreiciated, my search gave me 7 pages of results but not the thread I was looking for. . .
Also if people would post there thoughts about weather is a sport or a past time, i would really appreiciate it. Both sides of the argument are welcome. You will get full credit in the "work cited page"

Hey man, what year level are you at in school/uni? Its a very interesting topic you have picked. There are hundreds of different areas in footbag that have not been researched, some facinating things could be uncovered if some people where to take the time to study it.
I have not seen any threads like the one your after but i will state my opinion:
Footbag is definatly a sport, the definition of a sport is:
>Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
>An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
>An active pastime; recreation.
and footbag fits all of these criteria.
However it can also be considered a pass-time, as any sport can if played non-compeditively in my opinion. Alot of people play just for fun, or for fitness or to pass time

I don't want to be a downer here, but I think you should tinker with your question. An activity can be a sport and a pastime, they're not mutually exclusive. This is simply because anything can be a pastime.
I think a better question would be 'is footbag a sport?' which I think there was a thread on somewhere recently. This is more where your original question was leading anyway, so you should just refine it down to that. If I was in your place I would google/get a book out on the philosophy of sport and basically see what definitions of a sport fit in with footbag (freestyle). See what conflicts exist within various definitions and relate it back to footbag in novel ways. Or you could change your question.
I once did a report on freestyle and hacky, comparing them to formal dining etiquette; true story.

This kid at a highschool near me did his senior project on footbag. actually i think he might have called it "hacky sack." but anyway, he decided to hold a competition where every participant would put in 5 dollars and the winner got the money. He didnt advertise for the event good enuff at allll, because only one person showed up, and they won by default. i would have gone, but i heard about it after it was over.
Rumor has it that he will do it again next year,and advertise this time. The bad part is i dont think he knows what freestyle is...
