out of breathe?

Post by Fu Xi »

im just taking a random survey on...

how long does it take you to lose your breathe (strings)?

for me its a 5-7 contacts guiltless string with each trick a trick with a set before it (ie smear, atom smasher not butter, pdx mirage)

also... atomic sets really take it out of me

You have to learn to breathe while you are playing. For example, practice breathing out on sets and breathing in during downtime. I find that this helps a lot when I can do it. Being able to breathe while you play is pretty important.

I have asthma too. In a three person circle after a really hard run I will still be pretty winded when my turn comes around again. When I play on my own I take a breather after every run. Sometimes for a few minutes. I was SO impressed when I saw those first clips of Johnny (with some other guy) just playing without any sort of apparent rest. Like Lon in that Lon special from Todexon (how do you pronounce??) where he drops on a reverse whirl run, picks up the bag and continues to bust another couple runs immediately after (skooling on his own I guess). I want stamina like that!!

I don't think I ever get out of breath, I always drop it first. If I do a 30+ run with hard moves my legs tend to run out of energy - I think that I don't have a great deal of fast twich muscles or something - I can move my legs very fast but not for very long - for example when I used to do athletics I would always lead out a 100 meter sprint - I was very fast off the mark - but would always be overtaken and finish middle to last in the field by the end.

However I have a lot of stamina - and often (like three or four out of my daily kicks in a week) kick for more than 3 hours by myself (with breaks).

^^^ Christ on a stick man, that's a lot of kicking.

I sometimes find myself out of breath if I've just hit a couple of long combos in a row, and I'm only kicking with one other person, it's not normally an issue though.

I believe it is like "Toe-Dex-On". If I recall correctly, Steve G. said it was named after for the first three people who threw it: Tomas(tms), Dexter, and I'm not sure who the third was.

When in a three player circle, I don't get too winded at all. I can go for a while. But during warm up is when I get winded sometimes.

Same with when I'm shreding/schooling on my own at my house, I get tired pretty fast because I play too hard/fast. I actually have to remind myself that it's not a race kind of.

After 25+ strong guiltless I barely have enough energy to set the bag correctly. I wish I had more stamina... and I'm a Marine.

I thinka lot of players compensate for this. You'll notice on huge strings at about 20-30 contacts the players that go for more than that many contacts will at that point put in a huge set to butterfly or osis or a real slow spin to give them time to catch their breath and move on. Its also the source for when people put BOP in their shred. So its good to have non BOP energy saving moves. A great technique everyone should master, incase someone didn't notice. I find myself and ricky doing this often and were getting really high in our contacts now. We can bust out 40-50 pretty easy when we want to. Just got to get to that hundred contact mark :D
