The biggest problem will be break-in time and performance. Choose your color combos carefully. The right combo can make all the difference. The overall life of a mini is shorter. There is more pressure and weight with less facile than a standard size bag. I have replaced mine with a new one about every two months. I know that is a short time period, but I shred outdoors on concrete at the beach. If you shred indoors or on softer surfaces, then the life goes up and up.Hope this helps,Richie

That is really disturbing to me that a bag would only last 2 months. What happens to it after 2 months, does it get a hole or what?

This makes me more inclined to either go with a standard Abshire next bag I buy, or to try a different stitcher.

My Abshire got a small hole in it recently, after about 4 months, and although I don't think it's unusable now, I was sad to see it develop a hole.

What do you suggest doing for a small pinsized hole in a bag Richard?

I use a drop of shoe goo to just cover the hole. What I mean about replacing my bags every two months is that I am storing up choice bags to use. I retire a bag for good when there are about 8 to 10 shoe goo spots. Too many repairs will give the shell too much weight. I am very rough on my bags, but my friend Jason has one that is about two and half months old and is perfect with very little wear to the bag. Playing with the bag wet will also shorten the life. I do this in the first couple of sessions then its dry play from there. My latest shred bag is lasting much longer than the first two that I used. This in part is due to just using it compared to doing peformance and endurance tests on the bag. What most will find out is that the mini has a different play and life from the usual standard bag. A mini is made for performance and nothing else. Playing with a mini dry and on a soft surface should extend the life of the bag equal to a standard. Hope this helps.Richie

Naw, I really don't think that the mini has too short of a lifespan. Because really, the bag reciprocates how well you treat it, and if you're careful with a bag, you can still shred it up for a long time. Now, someone's going to shoot me in the foot for saying that, because I'm not a "hardcore shredder," but it's just my 2 cents.

I'm pretty careful with my bag, but it still got really pilly/fuzzy/worn out in the panels after a short time. I shoe goo-ed here today in two spots, so hopefully I have another couple of months before I have to add anymore shoe goo.

I'm thinking the reason my bag pilled so quickly was maybe because I used a soap that reacted negatively with the facile.

So Richie, my question is, what is the EXACT brand of soap that you use to wash your bags? I'd like to know, because obviously whatever soap you use works, and I would have no problems going out to buy soap that is good to wash my bag(s) with.

1 way to reaaaaaaaally extend the life of your bag is to play on short carpet. The bag gets much less dirt on it and it is not scraped against an abrasive surface. Also, if the bag is pilling, you arent breaking it in correctly- your technique is flawed!

Well I know I use Herbal Essences for mine (Not soap but it cleans, right? Someone else had suggested it), but I'd like to know what Richie uses also.

I heard shampoo and stuff like that is too strong and makes the bag stiff....happened to my 32. I've used "mild hand soap" like on it says Richies 'Abshire Footsports' business card...seems to be working fine. Btw I used Zest hand soap. You don't want to over-wash at all though. I wash my Lonn only a couple times a month if that..and only when its really dirty. "hope this helps"

I use Jergens mild hand soap in bar form. It is very mild and frees the bag of dirt and grim without destroying the facile or stitching. There are alot of soaps and cleaners out there that would work just as well as this brand, but risking the life of a good bag is not worth the research right now.
