Shred in the Southeast

Post by Elliott »

well, it has been one month since the Southeastern Regionals in Atlanta. during the after party, Ben S. made a suggestion that we have bi-monthly jams for all the shredders in the Southeast. maybe he was drunk, but i think that's an excellent idea. we can rotate the jams to various cities, where ever the host club may be. the only clubs that have more than 2 active players are in Atlanta and Nashville areas. Chattanooga, Tennessee is as close to a centroid between the two cities as possible. so i suggest that the jams be held within a cetain diameter of Chattanooga that would include: Atlanta, Huntsville, Knoxville, and Nashville. the other option is that we can rotate cities, but i think this would work to the disadvantage of the larger clubs. so what do you think? we only have a month to decide.

I think that would be awesome. Location isn't really that much of a big deal to me... and I'll be at college in Greenville NC starting this fall, so maybe I can somehow find a way to host us there as well?

cool. I like Justin Dale's idea about footbag teams from all over that compete.

Sounds like a great idea to me, I don't see why we haven't been shredding with the Georgia boys already, they're so close and so good.

I agree also. It would be more fun to play with other people more often.

exactly, this once a year stuff is not nearly enough. i doubt that everyone will be able to attend, but i think it will modivate everybody to get up and play. it would be a great opportunity to get to know everyone better and push our skills further along. it will also be a big boost to those solo shedders out there. who knows? maybe we can attract some new players. i still believe that Chattanooga is the best location. what's the best day for some shreddage? possibly the 3rd or 10th of July. this is all off the top of my head. i need some more feedback and suggestions. so, please answer the following questions:

1.) is Chattanooga a good location? yes or no. if no then please provide an opinion of what you think the ideal location is.

2.) does Saturday the 10th of July work for you? i'm open to ideas.

I think Chattanooga is a good location too. I thought it myself before. One reason, cuz I live 30 minutes from it, two cuz I've seen plenty of people "hacking" there, plus plenty of people there anyways, it seems like it has the potential to have a shred scene. Atlanta would be cool too, although I may not make it there as often.

I wish, I could say, I'd be up for this..
But, I think I'm a lil' too far down south..
To make it too these sessions, bi-monthly...

I will try to make it whenever possible...
If you guys get any meeting times and locations
established.....

And by the way... I guess, the Bonnaroo Session..
Never happened... At least I didn't hear from anyone..

Oh well, it was a great
weekend

yeah felix,
the bonnoroo session most certainly did happen. we had 4 freestylers that played from midnight-2:30. we were wondering what happpened to you. i told myself to write down your phone # before i left, but i was more concerned about being late than calling you to see where you were at. in short, no one there had your #. so we played until the hippies got rowdy.

Hey guys. I agree we totally need to get these jams established. Chattanooga sounds like a good location to get things started off, I don't think I'll be able to make it though, I'm taking 2 weeks off of my job in July(one of them for worlds) and I'll probly have to work all the rest of the month. I think a good idea for the second jam(the second one because I want to come) is that team idea, somebody mentioned each area of the region prepairing a team, I think it would be kool to all work on some team freestyle and then we can all kinda put on a show for each other, not necessarilly a competition, just kinda to show each other what we've come up with.

Word to the SOUF.
Something we've been doing up here in the Mid-Atlantic region is this: Every weekend, there are shred gatherings in their respective cities; the Philly Footworks kicks it in their area, the New York Footbag Association shred in Manhattan. Kickers from areas in between and around try to make it in to those cities to kick too. Then, one day a month (the last Sunday of each month) the crews from Philly and New York meet each other somewhere roughly half-way between the two (in my town, actually, Somerville). So people get plenty of time with their own groups three weekends each month, and then once a month they all travel a little and have a bigger gathering. It has worked very well for the last half-year. You guys should try make it a regular monthly event (last Sunday, first Saturday, the night of the full moon, whatever works), something fairly easy to predict so that you can all know when the shred is coming up without having to do lots of discussing each month and put it on your calenders well ahead of time.

i think it sounds like a good idea. i like the once a month idea more myself. i don't know about SOUF but Sporque already kicks every weekend. i still can't make it to either for the rest of the summer so location doesn't really matter for me at the moment but chattanooga is definitely the most central location. hopefully i'll be going to mtsu in the fall and will be able to participate in the sporque sessions and regional sessions. for the summer i can probably only kick if people wanted to come to me but it's an extra 1 1/2 hours for the atlanta crew so i wouldn't suggest it. if anyone does want to come kick in crossville i'm pretty positive you can crash at my house. if several people wanted to come we could get a crmprground cheap and chill for the night. anyway hope to see everyone at regional sessions in the fall.

i would prefer once a month too. but let's try to get this session together and see how it goes. i'm waiting on more responses from the SOUF crew before i proclaim anything official. though it looks like July 10th in Chattanooga at the moment. well, fellas what do you say?

elliott you asked me to try and get my orientation at the school over there on a weekend. the only time they offer it on a weekend is july 9th and 10th. that would clash on that weekend but i could do a thursday-friday on july 29-30 if you are wanting to do that on the 10th. i doubt i'd be able to make it down to chattanooga on the 10th but we'll see. if SOUF doesn't want to come up this time maybe we should meet up in murpheesburo. or if the north carolina guys decide to come over and the atlanta guys don't come up i'd be a more central point (crossville.) out of curiousity does anyone know where the virginia shredders are at? virginia is only like 2 to 3 hours away from me but it's a pretty long state so i doubt we're very close to any of them. i was just curious if any of them were in the western parts.

okay. Brett from Cha-town has agreed to host the event. so this is official: on July 10th there will be massive shreddage in Chattanooga, Tennessee. the venue is yet to be determined, but will more than likely be Coolidge Park by the river...depending on the weather. we may go ahead and reserve a indoor venue just in case. only 6 confirmed attendees thus far. who else is in?

This has been the most on-topic conversation in the history of the modified footbag forum! keep it up!

On topic: I wish I had peeps around me who wanted to shred this much. I wont be able to make it to your jams tho, sorry.
