Being an Australian he probably doesn't fully grasp the concept of footbag like the majority of people in the South Pacific region ... (not including any easily offended aussie footbaggers in that lot).
Then again it could have something to do with you americans taking something and, in his eyes, misusing it (kinda like splitting the atom, nuclear weapons etc ... but in a good way) for you own gain, without giving him credit for it or something like that. Of course this is ignoring the fact that Australians are also guilty of this taking credit for someone elses inventions/products/sports talent, happens all the time (can anyone say Russell Crowe ... although on his current form they can have him) ...
If I've offended anyone with any of this too fuckin bad, my opinion is just that ...

Russel Crow is a god damned KIWI.
He doen't say "Crikey" enough to be an Ausie!
(ok, now I'm scaring myself).
But yes, I agree, there are few over here that have been enlightened to footbag. But we're working on it.
It's kinda cool being in the pioneering age of footbag for Australia. So many people are impressed by our basic tricks. I wonder what sort of response Lynton gets down in Melbourne.

Rod Laver was the best tennis player ever. The sad thing is that his shoes are horrible for tennis. I mean really bad. A ripped a pair to shreds in a month or two playing tennis with them. Then I found out they had a better use. All I know is that a lot of people now know of Rod Laver beacuse of his shoes use in footbag.

Yeah, Ive heard Rod Laver is not too crazy about footbag.

What the fuck does kicking footbag in Rod Laver tennis shoes have to do with "Us Americans" taking something and misusing it for "our" own gain, without giving credit where it's due?? I'm not the biggest patriot here but if your going to bash americans at least make some sense, and use some relevant context.

There are a lot of things that you can say this about where the US is concerned, but I think on this one you are dead wrong. In case you haven't noticed, no one plays tennis with Rod Lavers because they suck for tennis and Adidas hasn't bothered to come out with an updated version of the shoe that's stylish enough for tennis players to want to buy.HackyRichard wrote: Then again it could have something to do with you americans taking something and, in his eyes, misusing it (kinda like splitting the atom, nuclear weapons etc ... but in a good way) for you own gain, without giving him credit for it or something like that....

The world on footbag is the only group that thinks the Rod Laver shoe is worth a shit for our purposes and if we all stopped using the shoe tomorrow Rod Laver would stop getting his royalty checks. 99% of the footbag community, of which a majority is american, constantly promotes the use of Rod Laver Tennis shoes for freestyle. I don't see how you can say that americans have stolen anything from Rod Laver without giving credit.
EDIT: Haha I too just noticed it was posted 2 years ago. Oh well, my statements still stand. Though HackyRichards views may have changed since then; or maybe not.

actually I'm pretty sure that the amount of lavers sold to footbaggers is a very small minority. I can't imagine any more than 200 pairs being sold world wide in a year, and suspect the actual number is around 50. If a shoe were selling those kinds of numbers I'm sure it would be taken off the market.
I'd have to guess that your numbers are wrong. There are well over 1,000 members of Footbag.org and at least half of us own more than one pair of Lavers.
Obviously there are enough pairs of the shoe being sold that they not only didn't stop production on them when it was expected to happen years ago, but I would venture to say that the amount of that shoe purchased by footbaggers has also led to all the new colors and styles that have been introduced such as the red, blue, grey, black, tan, pink, etc....
