Why modified?

Granted, I wasn't around when modified was first opened up, although I was around before that, on one of the first footbag forums ever (although that's another discussion) I was just wondering, how did modified get its name?

Out of all things, why is this forum called modified? The word only has moderate meanings when it comes to footbag (like, modified Lavers for example), but other than that, it seems a more descriptive title would have been better, like footbagforum, footbagchat, freestylefootbag.ca or something similar.

So, to anyone who knows... Why is this great forum of ours called modified.ca?

It might have something to do with the hosting company, the hostname is modifivia or something like that I think.

Other than that, I couldn't tell you.

I think it's cool

With all the other footbagwhatever or whateverfootbag stuff out there, Modified is short and sweet. it's easy to remember and, because of it's name, it stands alone.

Yeah, but.... don't you think it would be better to be something that people could actually associate with our sport?

I do associate Modified with the sport. Maybe I might not have if it was just created and I wasn't used to it, but now that Modified has been around for quite a while, everyone knows about it, and you just have to mention 'Modified' to another footbag player in real life, and they'll know what you're talking about.

Yeah, I know that amongst people who already post here and already know about it, it's cool ... But to me it just seems counter productive to have the name of the forum be something that has virtually nothing to do with footbag.

For example, if footbag.org was called sunnydays.org, or something like that, it just wouldn't make sense. Over time people would learn to accept that sunnydays.org was the premiere footbag site for info, but it seems a lot easier to get something out there as a source for information on a sport that isn't relatively well known, if the title of the resource actually has something to do with, or reflects the sport.

It's really not a big deal at all, I like the name modified too

I'm just making discussion.

The only thing counterproductive about the name Modified would be to change it.

I always thought it was a 'modified' form a discusion, as opposed to the brutally overmoderated email discussion lists.

Well that's how it was advertised in the beginning... maybe for a while. Because used to, it wasn't moderated all that much... maybe not completely unmoderated though... but I mean, you've been here for almost as long as me... do you remember the "Modified.ca... the Unmoderated Forums" slogan?

haha i think that was fabricated. i made the switch from the old forum the day that this one came out, and i've pretty much checked it daily since. now don't get me wrong, my memory kinda sucks, but that doesn't ring a bell.

as for the topic. i like modified too. thats how i first see if i know people.
