rock climbing

Post by Dat »

I tried rock climbing and bouldering for the first time last night. I had a great time. I really enjoyed the technical aspect of it ie the different moves you can use. I got a membership for the rest of summer so hopefully I'll build some strength and won't still suck when it's over. If anyone has a pair of size 10.5 (44) climbing shoes they want to get rid of PM me.

Awesome, dude. I used to hike/camp in the backcountry regularly, but I haven't in a while. I wish I could get into rock climbing.
Good luck to you. That's probably a badass way to build your footbag muscles, too.

Now remember, you don't want really big leg muscles for footbag otherwise...

Nope, I'm just kidding. I've tried rock climbing before. I hope you have more fun than I did!

EDIT: Woah, I just noticed something: when you click on an emoticon, they all stop moving. You can catch this  one in some funky facial expressions.

I had my first taste of bouldering at the WV jam, a week later i bought a pair of 5.10 T-Rock climbing shoes on ebay. I'll prolly try some bouldering this week or soon. I'm still trying to get used to the shoes, they are uber tight.

climbing rules, i have been slowing down my climbing due to worlds approaching but after worlds I am gonna spend all of august in the the local gym (won a pass from my university gym). It gets you into great shape and a lot of the technics that climbers use to help them improve apply very well to footbag. Some day I hope to be the worlds best footbager/rock climber :p
also its a great compliment to footbag because it helps work out the part of the body that most footbaggers dont use. Last summer I played hack one day and then climbed the next and so on and so on all summer, thus allowing for one day of leg exercise and rest and one day of upper body and rest. It also a very chill sport much like footbag.
I also hope to one day do a dyno while doing a dyno :)

basically its:

Dyno - A dyno (dynamic maneuver) is a leap from one set of holds to another. This maneuver is advanced and used when a "static" move will not get you far enough up to the next hold.

So when a hold is to far away you basically jump for it. Usually leaving the rock with both yoour hands and your feet, ie free of the wall for a split second before you hopefully grab the wall again :) look for some videos of dyno comps on the net if you are interested they are sick

Crazy. I think I tried one of those before. An easy dyno though. I didn't get it.

Damn, I need to go climbing again.

I've been rock climbing at this place near me, it's so much fun, I love it... I hardly go at all though, I wish I could go more.

Rock climbing is fun. I was stupid and made it scary one time too. I climbed a wall without equipment that didn't seem that high from the bottom. I got stuck like 3/4 the way up and looked down and was like, "Holy cow! That's pretty high if I fall." I tried to find a next spot to grab for like 5 minutes and couldn't so I was like, "Screw it." And reached my arm AND my support leg, my other leg was slipping, and fortunately grabbed a spot. Man. I was shaking so bad when I got up to the top. It was still fun though. I hope someday that I get to go officially with all the equipment and stuff.
