Ponder . . . maybe they are not so jealous as they are constantly held in a position of inferiority while they developed the technologies they allowed the western world to flourish. They were the premiere societies, until torn apart by civil wars within Islam, and ultimately divided into groups and crushed by the outsiders.

Democracy in the middle east has already happened. However it was torn apart by a CIA coup under pressure from Winston Churchill.

Also you seem to harbor mildy racist ideals which you base on rash generalizations. Do you really believe that everyone in the middle east, meaning Turks, Arabs, Persians, Kurds, any many other diverse ethnic groups, are all crazy ass extremists? I really hope not.

Generalizing is the easy way out. It helps you organize things more easily. Unfortunatelly it's usually false. Statistically there are greater personality differences between people of the same ethnic group, Than when two ethnic groups are compared.

The majority of people in the world just want to live a good life, be fed, and have a home. Maybe even get married and start a family without bombs being dropped on their heads.

It's harder, and takes more patience, but is more satisfying when you try to genuinely understand a person, a situation, or even the world itself.
It's much easier to make things up about someplace you've only seen on TV, and generalize as one group although it encompasses a wide variety of ethnic groups.

I've noticed that you are generally an uncredible source of info, and that you kinda get off on pissing people off. Good luck with that.

I'm glad you chime in on the forums under this thread. It is important to have a perspective on the situation from someone with first hand information. Often times we do generalize to make a point, or push an idea, but ignorance is ignorance and I applaud your willingness to shed some light on the subject.

The more this war rages on, the less I agree with it. People are just trying to live, and they shouldn't have to fear getting blown up on a trip to the market to buy food.

If you are talking about colonial-period dominance, offhand I would attribute it to having "modern" firearms and the knowledge that citrus would prevent scurrvy on long sea voyages.

Hey! something we agree on. Now several questions stem from this problem. Such as
Why are the masses in shocking poverty? and why are they crashing planes into our buildings? The questions are just as interrelated as the world itself. Therefore the answers must be also. There is no place in the world completely removed from the rest of it. What we do here affects what happens there. Who we "choose" to lead us, how we consume resources, right down to how we live our lives. It's kind of a scary thought but we all have a responsibility.

I don't really enjoy playing stupid fucking games on a internet forum. So you can reply but I may or may not respond.

personally I'd call an extremist someone who has radical views and ideas - not held by the majority of people. Or maybe something along the lines of - ideals and morals outside of what is normally accepted by society.

I have a lot of friends who would definitly be defined as extremists politically - but are not jealous, bigoted or want to steal or burn anything down that they can't have (although one of them made national news a year or two ago when he burnt the Australian flag at a demonstration)

I was actually talking about politcal views and actions - not physical things.

For example while a small population of the Australia is gay, support for gay people or indifference to them is much higher. So clearly they are not extremists. If women in Islamic countries who want liberty is a small minority then maybe they are extremists. I think to add to my definition - extremists have to have the most radical views (or close to).

I think it's fairly unlikely to find a genuine (over 50%) majority of people on an issue. Obviously if you divide the issue into two options you'll find that, but if you let people tell you their personal opinions, I'm sure they'll vary away from a two option view.

Oh and that quote was really said by Ahren. I'm a little sceptical about it being true or not.

Yeah, extremism depends on who you ask. The more it's used, the less meaningful it becomes.

It's like the word "terrorist". Say it 100 times in a row as fast as you can, and it loses any meaning to you.



"The War on Terror" on it's face, is one of the dumbest names for a war.

Call it what it is, a holy war, than not everyone is participating in.

Am I the only one who thinks Dept. of Homeland Security is the most lame name for a security apparatus?
